Saw one and gas it up in the late 60's. Belonged to a high priced attorney in Alton IL. Had a Chrysler 383 v-8, one word, "AWESOME".

Quelles voitures somptueuses. Je me souviens d’un interview de Jean Daninos qui regrettait à l’époque de ne pas trouver le moteur Approprié chez un constructeur en France. Et il accusait déjà une fiscalité stupide. On voit qu’en 50 ans ça n’a guerre changé.

@@pilou09100 on voit pire et pas lié aux correcteurs. Parfois limite compréhensible. Pour revenir au moteur de Pont à Mousson le challenge était de taille.

It's reassuring to see so many survivors, Facel was astute enough to employ an American V8 and transmission for reliability, serviceability and affordability but then they did the unthinkable....they decided to make their own four cylinder engine. Sacreblue, they probably thought "why pay for someone to make our engines when we can make our own." Have you ever wondered why some car companies don't make their own auto transmissions, because it's best to leave somethings to the experts.

Some may find this comment odd, but here goes anyway. So, from 1954 to 1967 these apparently lovely cars were produced..... *_without turn signals?!?_* Of all the ones I saw before quitting the video, one used theirs, only a very few others seemed to even have lights that might have functioned as potential indicators, and the vast majority had nothing? I also didn't see evidence of the Trafficators or semaphore type signal arms some cars had back then. It may seem like a minor point, but boy, if I had a classic car this old, *I'd certainly be installing **_something_** to indicate turns and lane changes,* even if it disqualified me from concours d'elegance events. (Apart from concours disqualification, I could already see several perfect spots for 'period correct-looking' blinkers, of which only aficianodos would be the wiser.

Si je gagne au loto ,c'est une Facel Vega que je m'offre(on ne s'achète pas une telle voiture n'est ce pas!).Je ne ne veux pas ni d'un engin turbo compressé bourré d'électronique et avec écran informatique,ni d'un moulin à café !🙂

FACEL = Forge et Atelier Construction Eure et Loir. Département pourtant à majorité agricole à l'époque, comme quoi l'industrie automobile avait poussé un peu partout, pas qu'en région parisienne. Usine à Dreux 1045 voitures en sont sorties de 1960 à 1963. "Un carrossier passionné de Facel Vega fait revivre la mythique marque automobile de Dreux" écrivez cela et le lien se retrouvera dans l'onglet.

I could not imagine that so many Facel Vegas still exist. But not so many Excellence models - and I did not notice a Facellia, but I may be wrong.

Environ 3000 Facel ont été produites entre 1954 et 1964. Il doit en rester encore au moins 50 %.

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station fuel pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime :-(/

C'est "l'oeuvre" d'un citoyen britannique : RHD, moteur Chrysler récent, phares carénés et fast back avec charnières apparentes sur le couvercle de malle. Le toit semble comporter deux bossages façon couvercles de poubelles (ces trucs s'ouvrent ?). Ça a dû coûter un œil et deux bras pour un résultats.... euh.... spécial !

10 FV, 33FV1, 31 FV2, 74 FV2B, 46FV3, 92 FV3B, 36 FV4, 30 FV4B, 440 HK500, 184 FV2 and 153 Excellence=1129 total production...The most Facel Vega not destroyed by accident did survive, like Roll Royce's...

And also the model powered by the factory Pont-a-Mousson engine, the Facellia. Unfortunately, due to development problems, there were many breakages on the first engines, and the factory had to bear the cost of replacement. This led to bankruptcy in 1964, despite the engine becoming more reliable later.

La facel est une des plus jolies voitures jamais construites . Toutes sont sublimes mais j’ai un faible pour la F 2 et la facel lia 6 et les perf de l’ah 3000.

Albert Camus died in the crash but the driver was Pierre Gallimard , the book editor . The car hit a tree ; no seat belts nor airbags at the time...

All cars are potential rolling coffins, Fernand Raynaud killed himself in 1973 at the wheel of a Rolls Royce convertible, in a bend it veered, then hit car and truck and ended up in a wall of ... cemetery. And at the time there were 5 x +++ accidents. Roads often with trees, speed as we wanted etc and as Vincent Dubois said, less technical safety on the cars. Closing in 1964, production stopped at the end of 1963

They were bankrupt because of other reasons, not the accident. The last model they built was a failure, it was too small in many ways..
