I had a deep plane facelift and platysmaplasty one month ago and still have swelling below the earlobes and mandibular angles. I’m taping with 2 inch paper tape which seems to temporarily help the induration. The bilateral ear numbness, numbness over the mandibular rami, in front of the ears and below the jaw angles is driving me crazy! Have you ever dealt with this type of post-op complaint? I’m so fearful that the numbness is permanent. My surgeon said it should resolve in 3-6 months.
@jniamtuiii4 жыл бұрын
It almost always resolves
@tzipporahv36193 жыл бұрын
@@jniamtuiii,thank you for your encouraging words last year. Unfortunately, the numbness I had described in my original post has not resolved. My deep plane face lift and platysmaplasty was performed one year and three weeks ago by a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon here in CT. While the aesthetic result is satisfactory, the numbness has not resolved and it appears that my greater auricular nerves were affected, bilaterally. My relationship with the Plastic Surgeon is fractured. I've no intent to seek damages. However, I am curious if there are techniques used during surgery that help surgeons identify the GAN to avoid damage to this nerve and it's branches. I'm also curious to know how often this type of complication occurs during deep plane face lift/platysmaplasty procedures. Thank you.
@jniamtuiii3 жыл бұрын
@@tzipporahv3619 Sorry to hear that. The greater auricular nerve is the most commonly damaged sensory nerve during facelift surgery. All surgeons are careful in that area. Permanent numbness is rare.

I was surprised that the stitches were in front of the ear cartilage. I thought the new method was to run it along the edge of the ear cartilage
@jniamtuiii2 жыл бұрын
Untrue! It would be a long explanation, but I get my best scars with the front incision. When doing behind the tragus, sometimes the cartilage can remodel and look flat. You can then see inside the patients ear and it is very difficult to fix. I never have that problem with a front incision. I also do post tragal incisions but discuss pros and cons with patients. The incision position is not important, it is the final result of the scar that is important, so there are several ways to do it. The scar is a surgeon's signature, so if I did not get excellent rsults, I would not do it. I tell all docs, do what works best in your hands and don't worry about what others do. Hope that makes sense. Take a look at my scars www.lovethatface.com/cosmetic-facial-surgery-richmond-va/face-neck-lift/incisions-and-scars/ Dr. Joe

Dr in the last patient you referred to the jowls as "jellow" it really does appear as if the face has fallen forward and down as if there was not enough vertical lift. not criticizing just observation. What would be the fix? I really do not believe it will get better in time as the swelling goes down there will be even more laxity.

I WISH I KNEW YOU BEFORE I HAD MINE DONE. The problem with the facelifts - at least what I had (there are different techniques and mine was obviously a more intrusive type than others) - i was happy with the results for many months.....now, 14 months later my face looks horrible..like nothing was done...I was told all swelling would subside within 18 months but the problem is its the swelling that masks the flaws the most so its a rather traumatizing experience for me to now have minimal swelling to see NO DIFFERENCE and right when i was semi-happy with the results i'm back to crap....over a year later......it looks even worse. i wanted a neck lift and this guy have me a cheek lift though i am not even happy with that. all i know is he messed up my appearance moreso than anything and the STITCHES are lumpier than the initial issue was. my jawline looks horrible due to the internal sutures that are PERM.....he never bothered to tell me this would be an issue and they feel horrible..i feel 90 because of this..they are like jello in my neck and it's really disruptive. It's illogical for any Dr. to stitch someone up at the jawline to create a mess. I will go to you next time. This is horrible.
