This was a really helpful guide. Thanks for sharing all your tips, especially for the corners and aligning the fabric correctly! I'm researching to reupholster my sectional. I've done small reupholstery projects, but nothing this big before, wish me luck! 😅

That’s very very kind, thank you!! We do actually have a T shaped box cushion tutorial on our academy if you wanted to have a look - www.thefaceliftacademy.com - it’s super detailed and probably a bit too long for the KZbin algorithm to favour (as I’ve sadly learnt over the years!) but have a look if you’re interested in joining 😊🙏🏻 Thank you for watching!! 😊🙏🏻

Would it be a bad idea to do envelope style covers for seat and back cushions? I get board of my sofa often 😅 would be nice to just see easy covers for every season
@stevegreig8324
@stevegreig8324 22 күн бұрын
Thanks for a very clear video. Why do you need the short border pieces? Why not join the long border piece directly to the ends of the zipper border piece?
@faceliftinteriors
@faceliftinteriors 22 күн бұрын
Hi Steve! Thanks for watching! It’s because the width of fabric isn’t long enough to cut the border and go all the way around to meet the zip. The only way you could do that is if you cut the fabric diagonally, which means the grain of the fabric wouldn’t match the top and the bottom of the cushion (there would be colour differences, pattern differences etc). So you add small pieces to reach the the zip. I hope this makes sense! Let me know if you have more questions 😊👍🏻
@faceliftinteriors
@faceliftinteriors 22 күн бұрын
Obviously if you have a smaller cushion and the width of the fabric is the right size for the border to reach the zip, you wouldn’t need to add the pieces in. It just depends on the size of your cushion.

I"m a begginer and this was a tough video for me to understand. I looked at this video a couple of times but I decided that I will have to look at other videos and come back to this one. What was confustion for me was the side panels, and adding that extra pieces and the extra fabric, gosh,

Do you use a special thread for stitching these cushions? Or just a suitable thread for the fabric?
@faceliftinteriors
@faceliftinteriors 2 ай бұрын
I use a 36 or 40 thread for upholstery. 36 is the most popular 👍🧵✂️🪡⛏️

@@faceliftinteriors Nom I like it and it is very good and very clear and helpful - so thank you! I just wish you hadn't edited out all the tricky bits when sewing round the corners.
@faceliftinteriors
@faceliftinteriors 2 ай бұрын
@@KarlSmith-p5r I’m glad you enjoyed the rest, thank you for watching. There are corners that aren’t edited out but it is tricky to get a good shot of it with the fabric bunching up and my fingers in the way. My tip is to just go slowly around the corners - manually wind the needle if you need to, make nips in the fabric so the fabric moves around the corner easier and just go slowly and carefully.
@PsychicTeeth
@PsychicTeeth 2 ай бұрын
The advice to only adjust with the needle down is pure gold. If you lift the foot and the needle's up, it's all gonna go everywhere. If in doubt use the hand wheel to go one stitch at a time and my big takeaway is I'm going to start making those nips in the fabric from now on so it bends round the corner without moving into the third dimension.
