Having torn both her right ACL and MCL in April 2019, Azzi Fudd missed nine months before returning to the court nine games into her junior year. She led St. John’s College High in Washington, D.C., to its fifth straight Class AA state title and now, preparing to return for a full senior season, the country’s top-ranked recruit says she knows her body, she knows her limits and she’s ready to “win everything.” “After not playing, it made me hungry,” says Azzi. “My goals are to win our league, our state . . . if there is a Geico [national] championship, I need redemption.”
A 5' 11" combo guard, Azzi was named the 2018-2019 Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year-the first to do so as a sophomore-after guiding the Cadets to a 36-2 record while averaging 26.3 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists. That year she was the youngest player on the gold-medal-winning U.S. team at the FIBA Under-17 World Cup. Azzi guesses she first touched a basketball the day she was born.
Her mom, Katie, starred at Georgetown and her dad, Tim, played for American; they were married on the hardwood at St. Joseph Catholic School in Herndon, Va. So when the pandemic kept Azzi from going to the gym, her parents were quick to find a creative solution. Tim and Katie drew a regulation court on the road, where Azzi practiced for hours each day. When a neighbor complained that the court was blocking traffic, the Fudds moved their practice area to the front lawn and driveway.
Azzi received her first offer in sixth grade, from Maryland-“I had no idea what it was. My dad had to explain it”-and in November she committed to play at UConn. "I know I want to be somewhere that I’m going to be proud where I am the next four years and also look back and be happy with the decision and know I made the best decision for myself.”

UCONN is getting a high caliber player in Azzi Fudd. Just imagine, LORDS will, UCONN will have a shooter, a disciplinary such as Moore (Azzi) and the leadership and a disciplinary such as Taurasi and Bird (Bueckers). That is a beautiful sight. Thank you Bueckers for convincing Fudd, and thank you Geno for recruiting Diana. 😆😆😆. GO HUSKIES 🤣🤣🤣 GOD Bless you all.

I am a huge UConn fan but knowing what I know about her injury, she might not be as good as all the hype. It might take some time for her to help UCONN win a chip.

Becoming a great shooter isn't a giving trait. There is so much practicing day and night. I know. I cried out to God to help me mastered it. It never leaves you once you obtain it. The off days are not many. Nothing is gain without working hard for it though. A lot of concentration until it becomes a natural part of you and you it. Once you get there you can never quit (Practicing) ...The (Speed) was a gift. I got so obsess that I would shoot on chain nets in the dark of the night listening for the sounds of the (SWISH) Chain nets to confirm it went in.. Made 9 in row one night during my late teens. There was no light post in the school yard except the lights on the streets. Once mastered then I begin working on driving to the rim to develop an inside game as well working on different moves. You have to create your own arsenal of Weapons. I refused to be one dimensional. That desire came after getting Roasted on the court playing against better competition. They lit a 🔥 in me. I wanted to be a complete player. The speed & quickness God bless me with help me Become good on Offense & Defense. Nothing came overnight. Man! Talk about hard work. Nothing is given (Except The Gift) - One has to be willing to Cultivate That Gift we didn't know existed, except through a strong desire deep within to be a better Athlete. Playing against better competition on a daily basis raised the stakes. You learned through practice, now it's time to take it to another level, and to another leve,l and on and on until even those who are equal or better than you respect your game. A coach can coach and can only do so much. The drive to be better comes from within and Hard work every day. Some coaches see where you want to be and are able to assist bringing it out of you. But the thing that really made me a complete athlete was Self Motivation and the desire to be to be not just good at my position but great. Not to fail to mention the most important ingredients: (REMAIN HUMBLE & PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE) Thank God for The Fife of Speed & Quickness that enabled me to excel in Basketball 🏀 Football 🏈 Track & Field & Baseball ⚾
