The body of a 20-year-old SIUE student was found at a trailer in Alorton, five months after police say she had complained of physical abuse at the hands of Shauntez Hairston. days leading up to her death had worked as a waitress near her home
in New Boston. Police are uncertain how Tharp wound up in the
Edwardsville area recently. Hairston, 28, got 22 years stemming from the July 5, 2005, strangulation death of 20-year-old Marissa Tharp. Tharp’s body was discovered in a mobile home near East St. Louis. Her family had last heard from her on July 4 when the 2003 Westmer High School graduate was leaving her job in Muscatine, Iowa. Her car was found in East St. Louis. Hairston’s vehicle was recovered in Davenport, but whether she was forced to travel to the Metro East area or went willingly is still unclear.
