THIS STORY:
May Woolsey was the beloved only daughter of Luther and Mary Woolsey, who lived at 916 E Street, in Sacramento, California. She died just a few months before her 13th birthday in 1879 from encephalitis. Her grief-stricken parents made attempts to contact her with the help of a spiritualist, then packed up her belongings in a trunk and sealed it behind a wall. The trunk was rediscovered 100 years later in 1979 by the home’s new owners during a remodel. A letter was found in the trunk signed from May, written after her death.

Hi there, great video! I managed to find a record of May's older brother. His name was william jerome woolsey. He was born in 1853 and died in 1908. He had a daughter who was born in 1877. I hope this helps you with your research!

I can only imagine how hard it was emotionally for Mary to lose her sweet May... such an adorable child but how wonderful that mother and daughter are together again for eternity with our Lord and all of heaven.. About 15yrs ago, I contracted meningitis from a mosquito bite… long story short, I had to undergo multiple spinal tap drawls.. that’s all I remember, that’s how bad I got… point being, mosquitoes are more dangerous than ppl want to believe or imagine.. so crazy… out of all the many ways a person can die, u don’t think of a mosquito.

I had a chilhood girlfriend, that was bitten by a mosquito; as a result she contracted sleeping sickness; she was in a coma for around 3 months. When she came back to school, everyone was so afraid to go near her. I was the only one who gave her chance. We were besties for almost 4 years and than due to personal reasons, I moved away. We never kept in touch. I often wonder what happened to her.

This was such a memorable story! Initially so sad about poor May, dying so young, as so many children did in those days. But the presence of mind of her Mother to carefully pack May's things in the trunk, and hide it away- wow! I applaud that, in her grief, she wanted May to be remembered by future generations ❤ seeing the trunk contents was so cool!!! Really like going back in time. Not sure what to make of the letter, but perhaps it brought much needed comfort to the family. Thank you Ron for telling us this story, bringing us to the cemetery and museum. Ron, Now that was truly one of your "knock it out of the park" videos! Can I give it 10 stars instead of 5?! I really enjoyed it, and I want to thank your viewer who recommended this interesting story to you! So fascinating, and certainly poignant as well. Childhood deaths in those days were not unusual, and neither was the inclination to seek out spiritualists. As Delta suggested, if the letter the spiritualist gave Mary some consolation, then hopefully it was worth it. I kept waiting to hear if there were any details in the letter which would have given a strong suggestion to Mary that the details of the letter might authentically have come from May--like something only Mary would have known, but I guess there is no way to tell that now. Like you Ron, I also believe that there are those who are truly gifted with an ability to communicate with the dead, but there are probably a lot more people who claim to have that gift but don't. I have a friend who consulted a person who supposedly had this gift who gave her consolation after the untimely death of her son, so who knows? Lastly, that cemetery is really cool, and I agree that it does look like a cemetery from back east. I am no expert on the history of Sacramento, although it is the capital city of our state here, but I am inclined to think that a lot of the folks buried there from May's era were probably from back east. Hence, it would have influenced the grave stones, etc. May was a really beautiful girl. Thank you again for leaving your signature yellow roses at the graves of May and her parents!

How absolutely heartbreaking. I could only imagine poor Mary never really got over her daughter's death. I have a cousin whose eldest daughter died in 1982 of Equine Encephalitis at the age of 12. My cousin kept everything that belonged to her. She still hangs up her stocking at Christmas.

The trunk was a better time capsule of everyday life than an "intentional" time capsule. It's a rare and intricate glimpse into the life of someone who lived in the years following the Civil War in a part of the country that had only been settled a few decades before she lived. The addition of the later spiritual material also provides a sample of the belief systems of the time. Nice work.

If you study the actual history, many of these people were thieves and scoundrels, and it was actually a criminal element. They took a lot of people for a lot of money. I have watched a lot of documentaries on this, and have read books, I’m well-versed on it, and also if you watch some of my previous episodes, like Houdini exposing them, like Mia Crandall, “Marjorie”. Very sad , because I do believe there are a handful of people that are really gifted, but I think that over 90% of those people are scammers, or people that think they can do it, but cannot and make things up.

There are so many fake spiritualists out there even today that you just don't know who's the real deal and who's not. Oh Ron, please don’t disbelieve the letter. From that side they KNOW - they see us, they know our problems and they are extremely aware, unlike on Earth. I know I’ve told you before of having been in touch with my parents from the other side and I wish I could tell you what I remembered at the age of 68. I’d do it here but it’s quite long. I will say though that I had 4 different psychic experiences at the age of 8. The number 8 is the sign of infinity…I realized much later. The first one showed a past life, the second showed me karma. My friend had drawn a picture and explained it to me then told me she would be “leaving” soon. She passed away two nights later. It was her parents karma 😟. The third one was, well …you’d be hard pressed to believe what actually did happen but I was told my mom was going to pass away and why. She died when I was 13 and I felt like I’d known it was going to happen. The fourth thing was being shown a picture in my baby book of the dr that delivered me. I described the dr to my parents and they looked at each other and my dad said “maybe a picture?” My mom said “Frank, no pictures were taken”. I went to my baby book to show them and the picture wasn’t there!!! I have so much more I could tell you but…I was “told” that in order to learn the truth I had chosen a painful “journey”. Believe Ron as it is INCREDIBLE! Your daughter watches over you and love NEVER dies! ✨♥️✨

I grew up in the house around the corner from 916 E Street, about 4 houses away. The area was full of vibes. My mother was a Spiritualist and did sessions in those old homes on E Street, and other areas of Mansion Flats in Sacramento, CA. I just imagine I used to ride my bigwheel past that house everyday (early 70's), now realizing this chest was in that house all that time hidden away. I had two friends on both sides of that house!

Both my great Grandparents are buried there. My Great Grandmother was related to Frank and Jesse James. My Great Grandfather met her when he crashed his crop duster in her family field in Dallas, TX. The letter probably helped her mum, more than anything else, to cope with it. Reminds me of a book called Letters to Mothers by Chico Xavier. None of us will know until our time comes really. Whatever race, culture, financial status... it is just the love that matters.

I think the”special gift” or clairvoyance is more prevalent than we think. I don’t mean just the paid or celebrity ones, but I think a lot of families might have that one or two members that can tell you what the weather is going to be like during the week, tell you that going on that particular trip, or date would not be advisable, know who’s on the phone before it rings even if it’s someone you haven’t heard from for years. Only especially if in very religious families, THAT would not be discussed in the family or out. My aunt and sister were the ones in mine, and my sister and I in our mid 50’s, aunt having passed away, just barely talked about it. My sister was rather traumatized after losing both in-laws close together because she knew why and when, so it’s a shame that some folks still feel the need to keep that hidden
