THIS STORY:
Branded as "The Candy Man", Ronald O'Bryan was a man convicted of killing his eight-year-old son Timothy on Halloween 1974 with potassium cyanide-laced Pixy Stix that were collected during a trick or treat outing.
THIS CHANNEL:
_________________________________________________________
The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
Some are famous.
And some infamous....
....and some with tragic endings.

Thank you so much for covering this! I was born and raised in Mississippi and always wanted to go trick or treating when I was little. My dad always told me we couldn't, because of a man in Texas who killed his son with poisoned candy. Before I was born, my parents moved to Deer Park in 1983 and he had asked their neighbors about trick or treating and learned that it was banned there, but he never learned the name of the man or the circumstances of what happened. I was born in '88, so it was something that really stuck with him. It was neat for me to be able to fill that out, something that I've heard about ever since I was little.

I remember as a kid trick or treating my parents checked everything, obviously we weren't allowed to keep any loose / homemade easy open treats, the exception was our fire department would hand out bags of Peanuts, but those were in paper bags, stapled shut with the fire departments logo stamped on them and handed out from a fire truck driving around. The other exceptions were a few Neighbour's we knew Very well we'd go to thier houses first and keep thier candy aside so if we wanted to munch on candy while trick or treating we could eat that. I remember one house that we grew up with the neighbors were teachers, my older sister grew up with thier kids, I watched thier house and dog when they'd go on vacation, thru would have cupcakes that they handed out to certain people. ( basically the neighbors kids who they knew and who knew them( I always ate those right off.. they were actually the only house we would go into as well, usually to chat for a bit and see what costume they put on Rebound, thier shitzu. I remember being old enough to go around on my own and I went with a friend who didn't live in the area, she looked at me wierd when I easily went into the neighbors house and ate a cupcake.. until I explained.. even though I grew up in a smaller town we still took precautions. Otherwise.

Wow! I don't remember this , it's pretty awful and hard to believe he thought he would get away with that. Another person that has a " double" life, those types always scare the crud out of me. Looked so responsible on the surface, was pure evil deep inside. May this little boy rest in peace. There's a good chance if his mom is alive she'd be up in years now , I'm in my early 70's now but still love Halloween and giving out candy and goodies. When I was a little girl, we scouted for the homes that had homemade goodies like cookies or popcorn balls (those were especially good) ! Of course, later on wrapped candies were preferred and mostly given out, which was understandable. I remember those Halloween costumes, they came in cardboard boxes with a plastic mask on top. That elastic string was sure uncomfortable and it broke easily! Really, some of the best costumes were just made up out of what was on hand in the house, maybe with some makeup for your face. Good memories, thanks for activating that, Ron, despite this dreadful story. I'm relieved he got the death penalty and that it got served as well.

Oh my goodness. I was just talking about this case with some of my relatives! I lived in Houston when this happened (I live in a Houston suburb now). Yes, this changed all of our Halloweens. We stopped trick-or-treating for years after this, and the parents on my street took turns for several years and threw Halloween parties for us for instead. I still remember them all, including ours. Once they allowed us to go trick-or-treating again, we couldn't eat any of our candy until parents checked it all for, as you said in the beginning, the razor blades--or, any candy partially opened. My sister-in-law said she remembered they stopped selling pixie sticks for a while after this. I can't remember what age I was when people started Trick-or-Treating again. I remember talk about how our innocence was shattered. Well done. Rest in Peace, Timothy. This channel is amazing! I'm binge watching al lthe episodes. Such kindness towards others gives me hope for our world after all.

He wasn't even brave enough to just kill his own self because of his problems - even then, he needed to be found guilty and have the state do it. And such a small forgotten gravestone for boy - thanks for remembering, FOTF. It's a sad story. Have a nice day. 🙂

this story hits home with me-Ron. I was a child during that period of time and I lived in rural Loudoun County, Virginia. Where we had people who had placed razor blades, and syringes were used to taint the Halloween candy in the mid 1970's. the local hospital was offering to x-ray the candy for free to keep children from being injured. The father was a cruel and sadistic fiend. I'm glad he incurred what her rightfully earned. RIP Timothy. 🙏🙏🙏🕊🕊🕊🕊
