At 85, she's lost her husband and her friends, and now battles depression like many lonely elderly seniors. "I feel so helpless," says her daughter. "I don't even know how to comfort her. My heart is bleeding." But there is hope.

So sad. I really hope that the both of them get through this. Linda also really looks like her mother when she (her mother) was younger! I’m just so happy that she is recovering and is stable.

She is like my mum. We need to repay their kindness for giving birth to us and bring us up. If they don’t do have the dementia causing personality change, I don’t think any elderly wants to place burden on children. Dementia is a long term illness. As a caregiver, I break down a number of nights. I pray to god to give me guidance for the next move.

I found the video moving. I am able to relate in some small way. My mother had a stroke some years ago and my father passed away as well. My mother had some difficulty adjusting. She is living with me right now. My mother is stable. The daughter in the video is doing what she can, that is all we can do. My prayers and thoughts go out to the mother and daughter. I wish them love and peace.

Having depression is really challenging as it makes everything in one's life seem so negative and this results to losing the will to live and be happy. Some people would think that both depression and anxiety are normal parts as one grows older, but in reality it isn't. It's possible to be an older adult who lives happy, contented and healthy every single day. Thank you for sharing your story Linda, talking about this must not be easy. There is hope in fighting against depression, so keep it up. Your mom's lucky to have you, especially that other older adults who experience depression also experience loneliness and have no one to be there with them. You remind us of Reviving Mind's health and wellness coaches who help people our age experiencing depression feel better, shining hope as we can all be happy and healthy.

Keep up the great work you are doing for your beloved mother. God sees everything that you both go through & He will never abandon you & your mother. It is never easy being a caregiver but the joy that you feel knowing that you are making a difference in your mother's life is irreplacable. May God bless & sustain you both always.

my heart goes out to anyone out there suffering from depression / trauma or who has a loved one who is fighting depression / healing from trauma ♥ It's an invisible silent killer eating you from the inside out which many will not ''genuinely'' understand; unless they have first-hand experienced it themselves; or witnessed it in someone close to them.

I feel scared looking at elderly, as I am scared of living too long and sickly. I don't want to suffer nor burden others. I think modern medicine does not prolong life, but it only prolongs the process of dying. It is time that asian society lifts the taboo on sending elderly parents to nursing homes or assisted living centres. Of course, one has to be able to afford a good one so that elderly does not feel that they are a burden. It also makes the time spent with them more joyful all around for all involved.

My cousin at a young age as 20 is facing depression too he wanted to commit sucide and at night he even took the knife to cut his hand to relieve stress and the only thing he needed was accompanied by his family so his family realised and decided to spend more time on him and slowly he got out of depression at the age of 22

Aging itself is traumatic enough to cause depression. We were all young and capable once. It's very upsetting to face life knowing your abilities are gradually diminishing. Plus the feeling that you are a burden to your families. I think elderly and seniors have it the worst and therefore needs support. We are living towards the age where we will most likely be facing with the same trauma and disabilities.
