Hey I'm an older gal and I've been watching for years, so maybe I can offer my opinion. When I started watching your videos were... slower. A bit less dramatic for entertainment purposes. More like a "hanging out with Jazza while he futzes around and makes fun and/or cool stuff" type of thing. The objects you make now are often more grand, more exciting for the algorithm but ofen I feel your videos are too fast, too rushed through and that the videos end too soon. I like just watching you do the boring details and talk along. I get that this would take a lot more time and effort on your end, but it's still something I miss. I would rather watch an hour video of you making a sock puppet, then 15 minutes of building a space craft in fast forward mode. Still love your content, but why do you think I like your vlogs so much? 😊

Totally agree here! And, I’m an older gal too :) I think that learning makes the content relatable. Because, the majority of us are not experts or in my case, extraverted enough to even try somethings sometimes. Without the learning part, I can’t relate anymore. I loved …. Dabble and dive baby! Dabble and dive!

I'm also not a young pup and as much as I like moving around on my own at a fast pace, a fast pace is not something I consider relaxing or conducive to the learning space. I've noticed a lot of young artists suffering from how fast-paced the majority of the digital art space online has become. Slowing down and taking my time with learning art has significantly improved my abilities and confidence. The thing is...artist are not making enough without having to resort to click bait and unless you've got cash the real learning isn't available and has to be hidden behind a pay wall so that the art instructor can even begin the attempt to pay their bills. I feel for Jazza. I could never in a million years handle the stress of being the boss in his situation. I'm making a good attempt at not falling into despair when I think of how much this younger generation is missing out on long-form, slow-paced learning that is readily available. Art isn't a race and neither should learning be. I hope some day artists get a bit of a break and are able to return to what may have gotten them into art in the first place. Sorry for the waffles. I hope ya'll have a beautiful day ❤

For me what has given it that sort of not-quite-right vibe is that I think the main channel has become too production studio like focused. Like, before you moved into the big studio it seemed more like your best bud down the street trying out this cool new thing and letting you watch or showing you how to do something. Now it feels more like a production studio trying to turn out their scheduled content regardless of what it is.

Same, I haven't watched any of Jazzas videos these past few years from this reason alone. I remember the character creation videos being the best. The structured-ness of the new content feels like it has lost its initial charm of "best bud down the street". Love you Jazza though if you see this

I think my favourite Jazza videos are the ones where you do screw up and things don't always go right, but you push through and learn, and say what you learned as you get better at them. A lot of the newer ones have felt a little more like you've had it either edited to remove some of those learning/fails, or you're already so good at doing the art side of it, that the technique you've learned has mattered less. Probably why my fav vids are still the Chainsaw art ones you did making your wife the horse sculpture, or the resin ones where you were learning to use it and it kept screwing up with bubbles or heat.

There’s a detail Red noticed but forgot. Editing changed a lot! There was a tonal shift that happened, singing hard to pin down but a bit like you’d been going to the same coffee shop for years and getting the best thing only to have a new employee come in and clean everything with a cleaner that left behind a subtle change. Note you still get coffee from the same place but the flavor is just different. Red loves metaphor.

I like videos that are a bit chaotic, less edited, figuring things out on the way. I, as an artist myself, can relate way better with what you are doing if it goes like how it goes when I do art. Messy, struggling, doubting and in the end being proud of what I did and learn.

I really like the intimate, 'watch me try this' type vids, ones where I feel 'I could try that'. And the 'woops' moments caught on camera. Those things we need to see if we are going to try the art project ourselves. I do enjoy the epic stuff, really do, but I love watching stuff that I feel I could achieve here at home. I would not say the vids are worse than before, I enjoy them all. But yeah, I miss the smaller stuff, if that makes sense.

This resonates so much with me. He no longer does things that feel like "hey that's inspiring, maybe I could try that" because it's these big elaborate time consuming and expensive projects that feel really out of reach for your every day artists just wanting someone to look up to. It feels like less art and more entertainment.

I don't watch nearly as much as I used to, I think a big part of the reason is that there used to be a stronger sense of community and, I dunno, down to earthyness? Way back when I started watching, whenever you would put up a video it was something I could do at home, I could see you do something cool and think to myself "Oh that looks fun, I can engage with this on a level beyond just watching a video, I can create something myself". These days a lot of your projects are just too big for me and use tools and products that have high investment in tools, storage, time and of course money for materials. That's not a bad thing, they are really cool projects and it's awesome you can do them. But when it comes to art and creativity I like seeing things I can get into myself or try out on my own or where there is a shared community of people who can share their own work. It's one of those things that just kinda happens as channels get bigger, some things are lost other things are gained, not really anything you did wrong, just drifted away from what I like to engage with.

A couple art channels are still really look, like NorthOfTheBorder and NerdForge. Jazza used to be very creative, show something new and dedicate some time to make it good. But now it has become a business, a lot of people depend on the success of the videos, and therefore he must bow to the algorithm and make content faster and that may be more engaging, but personally I don't like it, it's too "Here's something new, and tiktok trend woooah". The video with the dome painting was quite enjoyable. I miss the times when the channel was small and he could take risks, or have a project "fail".

@@DiegoVelascoVolkmann i wished the algorithm did not effect the artists. i would say jazza is still somewhere there but artist..crafters like nerdforge(are my favourite) is totally bound into the algorithm. we regular views of these artists feels bad for them cause people always click on videos that look ''spectacular'' in their feed like its either super big or super tiny and with better visual presentation(unnecessary sometimes)

Something that is a bit different and I feel like I miss is that a lot of the decisions of the project are made before the video starts. I really liked hearing your thought process and the inevitable trial and error that involved. The starship was an incredible product and I did really enjoy it but I also felt like we were coming in half way through. I suppose the doing of a project comes down to three parts; the idea, the planning and the execution. Lately it has felt like we only get the execution and I guess I just miss the other bits. This could just be me though and I still watch every video and am excited when I see one being posted but I do miss that.

A channel this big (the main Jazza channel) should be setting trends not following them. It should also be serving its audience first, over the YT algorithm. I still watch every video but a lot of the time, in the last couple of years, it's just to say I've watched them. If they weren't Jazza videos they'd be a hard pass. I thought the Insert Art Channel was a step in the right direction. Build up something like that to eventually be the main channel. Something that doesn't rely so much on one person. But that kind of got hamstrung by chasing the algorithm, clickbait, and duplicating projects on the main channel. It became a hard watch very fast.

Hey Jazza, first and foremost: I still love your channel, and I usually click on a video you drop the instant I see it. So, please take the following not as bad intended, but you asked for our view on the changes of your channel. What hooked me back in the day was your enthusiasm and your professionalism at the same time. You were a big kid playing with everything creative you could lay your hands on, but with the knowledge of experience behind and a great set of skills. Back then, it was you playing with art, with an ad here and there for funding the channel. Nowadays, and I think a lot of it was due to your depression shining through, the "flavour" of the videos has changed, and I think that was one of the main reasons Insert Art didn't run that well, too: it feels more like "a video that's made to place an ad", which reminded me a lot of these mass produced videos that are just out there to create content for ad revenue. It was a cookie-cutter approach: concept, first steps, next few steps or challenge, ad, finish and reveal; all over and over again. (For Insert Art, it was the "Concept, Artist A, ad, Artist B, reveal" cookie cutter.) It felt not as heart-felt to me any more. It wasn't as bad, or you would have lost me as a viewer, but it felt as if it was going in that direction. I understand that you have to fund the studio and that people are depending on you, and I sincerely hope that the improvements on your well-being are advancing and will be durable. It will make a difference, I'm sure. But perhaps you can find another way of monetizing the videos, like through product placement of things you do use regularly (Ohuhu? Paper manufacturers? Resin? Studio equipment?) without the blatant advertisement. Love, and fingers crossed for your reemergence into the sunlight.

Some rapid fire questions 1. Can you discuss how you guys fund your studio? I feel, from what I hear, that KZbin isn't steady so how do you guys keep up the studio and place? 2. Are you upset by having to play the algorithm game? I have learned I actually don't click the high click baiting thumbnails since it is too stimulating and those videos I get overwhelmed by. Has A B thumb nailing testing shown more engagement for those pieces? 3. Will we see more collabs? (Weird but I love KZbinr cross overs weirdly! Even virtually!) 4. Favorite and least favorite part of the job? 5. How are you taken seriously as a boss with your display in videos? Like no hate, just genuinely curious how you balance that since that must be difficult!

I watched this and had to ask myself why I wasn’t as into the main channel as I used to be. For me, the channel diversified too much I think (but thats for my taste). I used to really love art media experimentation and just adored the attitude of dabble and dive. I found that so refreshing and a reminder not to be so stressed about trying new media - just have fun! But now, there’s too much fantasy and gaming content that I just am not really connecting with, too many skills based reactions (character drawings) etc. BUT, I get that this is YOUR outlet and that many others love that content. For me though, there has been a big shift, followed closely with a big staff and business expansion and content diversification that just waters down what I used to connect with. For me ultimately, it feels less accessible to me as an art scaredy cat, or art shy..whatever you want to call it. I used to feel encouraged to try, now I feel a bit distanced from the content in that way. I sort of feel like the majority of stuff in that channel just doesn’t (can’t?) apply to me anymore. Sorry about putting this here and not the reddit but I find that space just a bit much for me right now.

As a non-artist who's watched for quite a while, I really enjoy the crazy projects and the videos where you're trying out new things you haven't done before - where it feels like I'm just hanging out with someone watching them learn rather than watching some big fancy production. I'm not really into in all of the IP and fantasy stuff - it's just not nearly as interesting to me. Watching you make art out of food or with a chainsaw or even just trying a new hack or type of paint is way more appealing to me than redesigning some famous character or the super fantasy focused stuff. At the end of the day you should do whatever you enjoy, but I really prefer the less-polished/more playful videos.

This is exactly my thoughts too. The fantasy stuff is still impressive and creative but it’s not my preferred niche interest. But it’s Jazzas niche interest and these are the things that bring genuine joy into life. And so I want him to make them but I also just won’t watch and hope that someone in that community takes my place instead for those videos. Keeping the art content more broadly accessible in that regard might help the channel. And keeping the authentic connection as he has been.

Now it feels like a whole „Jazza Universe“ which makes it hard for me to keep up with. Back in the day I came home from school and was looking forward to watch a new video of you just having fun. Nowadays I lost track on what is actually going on around here. Massive projects, Apps, art supplies, brushes, books and online courses to buy, many channels with many creators I dont even know - I am sure they are all great and surely wonderfull people- …. I'd personally love to see a series of videos detailing the complete process of creating an animation? I feel this encompasses most things you enjoy and could keep the audience engaged over many episodes - maybe even doing a poll as to how the story develops. Once finished this could end up either being a short film or a ongoing series. This could also be a great way to get the team to work with you more.

I still consistently watch your videos every single week, and am a subscriber on your Patreon, but I have found myself drifting away from art content on KZbin in general right now and I'm not as enthusiastic about it as I used to be. I used to watch many art and craft channels, but now it's pretty much you, Moriah Elizabeth, Crafsman Steadycraftin', and Rachel Maksy. I think the common denominator for me across all four of your channels is that I enjoy your personalities, humor, and willingness to be goofy. I do also watch Art with Flo when I feel like drawing myself as she's tutorial-focused. I do sometimes feel like your newer videos are a little too edited, a little too commercial-y, and I understand that it's both because you've achieved an amazing level of production quality and also because you're having to cater to sponsors, but sometimes it feels like I'm watching an infomercial with a fast-talking sales guy and I tune it out. I will admit, though, I'm a 40 year old introverted lady, so I'm sure that affects how I consume content. I personally really love the videos that feel more candid, like you're playing around and having fun with it and maybe it turns out kinda "meh" but the process was fun and it felt like we were brought along on the journey. My favorites are seeing what you can do with pretty simple materials because you're very talented and you work very hard at it, and I love feeling like I'm being brought along and included vs. feeling like I'm watching a commercial for a mobile game.

(This comment includes criticism)Hey jazza. Lots of love to you, been a fan for roughly a decade now. As an artist myself the one thing that always brings me back to your channel is growth. I’m curious to see ur progress in your art. The one thing I’ll always click on is a video showing you pushing ur own personal artist boundaries. One of your most recent videos of the dome illusion painting was really exciting to see because it had you pushing your perspective. What I miss about old draw with jazza was just evident growth in your artistic skill, recently it’s felt like a majority of what comes out is within the same skill range as you’ve always been at. So when a video of the dome comes out or the chalk illusion where it looks like a dungeon i get excited because it shows growth in your environments. As a fan I’d love to see you try and push yourself when it comes to drawing, no funny business, learning color theory, learning the rules of design, what makes a good environment, composition, perspective. I want to learn with you. I’ve grown up on your stuff, I was around when maraca monkey was a thing. I was there when you released arty games for the first time. I don’t now if a series of you learning environments and color theory and world building would get views. I believe it would. I’d sure as hell watch it. I wouldn’t write all this if I didn’t care, who knows if you’ll see it. I Tried my hand at a clickbaity opening line, hope it worked. Love your stuff, best of luck when it comes to the cruel world of the KZbin algorithm, sometimes it doesn’t matter what kind of effort you put in, KZbin will kick you to the curb.

Red notices older projects would have spent time on that finish detail like cutting out the greeblies. Now viewers are left out of that portion of the process. Was there an idea at some point that was boring to the viewer? Who has that idea? Full channels have developed just due to the skills that were once displayed on this channel. Kitbashing nothing from scraps, it’s a whole genre now. But in the ship once we got to that point EDITING!!!

I've been watching the channels since 2017 but the vlog channel is the only one I really watch anymore, though I do check the main channel sometimes. My favorite videos were always the ones that were silly and had a lot of mistakes happen or the result wasn't that good, but there was a lot of heart in them. There's definitely a lot of heart going into the stuff now, otherwise you wouldn't make it, but there's a lot of stuff about glamor shots and trying really hard to get the best highest quality marketable video that people are going to watch... and it's just not really that fun anymore. I feel like I don't see any jazza anymore and only ever see it on this channel or patreon and whatnot.

I watched basically every day in college, but have fallen out over the last couple of years, only really being served one a month, and really clicking on maybe one every four to six months. I wish i had more detail about why, but honestly every video i do click on is a banger. I think that may be because its easier to tell how personal/engaging you will be given a specific project shown in the thumbnail. I think if i had to describe what turns me off from some videos, it would be somewhere along the lines of an un-canny valley feeling when things are forced to be dramatic for the edit, or when you seem to want to express an emotion you might not be genuinely feeling. Sort of an "acting it up for the camera" thing. I get that a lot of that is required, it just seems more genuine sometimes, especially in the slower, more 'personal' style projects. Keep it up man (and team)

I can't speak for everyone, but here's my piece, which took me binge-watching the many canon Star Wars shows, to be able to put into words: The channel lacks continuity. While all the new one-part art endeavors are impressive and great content in themselves, I just don't feel like I'm missing anything in the longer run by avoiding watching any one of them. Back in the days, the various "series" you had going on, left you hanging for the next episode. They all felt familiar, but new, and gave you a sense of tuning into your favourite weekly show. The Character Design Sessions are by far the best example of this. I'm old enough to have competed in a couple of the art competitions, which were also a good example (and I know they were hard to manage, but still). Also the VRtist as a concept. The many characters you created like French Jazza and Aussie Bob Ross, are an example of continuity. Your lads on the TableTop channel have done it with the roleplays and the constant return to your Ursa marines. Lately the content on the main channel is all about trying to ride along the train of whatever is the current most popular pop-culture of the moment. I say this with a lot of respect, you are after all a great source of inspiration for me and millions of others, but nowadays, I am not missing the greater narrative by missing any of your videos. To bring back the Star Wars analogy: I think your channel would benefit from your content complementing each other. I know you decided to re-invent yourself and branch out back when you moved to the current studio, but personally I miss a sense of that good old continuity (which also made me feel more connected as part of a community, because inside-jokes and the like developed from the people who were as addicted to these series as you were yourself)

When I first started watching your main channel, I was in a low spot, and was feeling totally uncreative and isolated. What made me come back time and time again was not so much the finished artwork...it was your journey there, particularly if it was a completely new medium. I know finding new forms is not an unlimited resource; but seeing the mistakes along the way, and your desire to persevere was very motivating. That is what I'm here for, not here's the edited version where everything turns out perfect. Your channel wasn't about perfect art. It was about the joy of creating, regardless of what it was or how well it came out. And yes, in the end you would have some lovely art, but you also had the less perfect steps you took to get there. That process of learning. I'm a crocheter; I learned it when I was five and I'm almost 60. Something is always going to look less than perfect to you, but be completely unnoticeable by others. It's because you are the one judging yourself by intent, and how close to that intent you came to. I rarely "frog" my works (rip ou and start over) because even as less than perfect, it's its own thing, and sometimes lopsidedness works for things. Anigurumi with perfect symmetry is often cute; anigurumi with lopsided eyes has character, and they are more appreciated for that imperfection. I miss the Jazza that wasn't afraid to mess up...or get messy...while trying new things. I wish I still had that joy of discovery, which adulthood and chronic depression seem to have eaten. You do. Don't let go of it.

Question: How are the horses doing!? And are you and your family enjoying your little ranch home? I loved to follow on and see how it was build! We don't have those kind of houses here in Denmark, unless you are extremely wealthy and even then i don't really see that! Its fun and wild to see how different people live and its always fun to see horsies :D

I relate to the longing for constructive feedback SO MUCH! 😆 Hope you get some helpful insights from the comments! My honest feedback: 1. I miss Garreth, and the dynamic you two had. I realize he isn't easy to replace, but It feels like the dynamic with the new guy is a little forced. The editing humor doesn't feel genuine to me. 2. I would love more dabble and dive videos! Like the tufting. 😊 I’m still waiting for part 2 of the pendulum painting (with a crane this time?). 😉 3. I’m often not as engaged if the content is about movies/games/cartoons/books I’m not familiar with. (The exeption is in your style swap videos, then it's totally fine for some reason!). I love the big classical stuff like Tolkien, pokemon, Harry Potter, Ghibli, Zelda, Star Wars ect. (I get that it might be a little suffocating to only stick with those, but it's how I feel…) 4. Spesifically on your last video with the space ship, the whole thing felt like one big ad. I hope you find your groove! Sounds like you feel more on track again. I’m guessing it's part of anyones journey, artist or not, to be out of touch with what you want/enjoy every now and then. I really love your channel, and watch every video. ❤️

The content that I most appreciated of yours was the content I found useful to me. And it generally wasn't your tutorial videos that did that for me. I watched a lot of your alcohol marker art videos when I was just getting into that medium to learn some of the techniques that you used when doing art, ones you weren't even explicitly teaching in the video. I loved the one the videos comparing all the alcohol marker brands too because they made me feel reassured that I made the right decision (Ohuhu for me). I tend toward videos featuring mediums I actually use because I feel like I learn more through watching you use or experiment with them. I don't really care for videos on experimental mediums, because I just generally have no interest in ever using those. I watched a good number of your videos redrawing kids' art both because they're a good showcase of expertise in the mediums you use and because it's my dream to be able to be good enough to do that for myself one day. Your videos sort of served as resources for me for very specific aspects of art creation. There's nothing necessarily wrong with your current content. It's just generally gone in a direction that interests me less. It's apparently been about 2 years since I regularly watched your content, but I like to occasionally check in on your vlog channel to see what's going on. Looking at your most recent content, I'd definitely be interested in watching your childhood graphic novel remake and style swap videos, but that's really about it for me. It's been a while since I've had your content algorithmically recommended to me, but I've also not been watching as much art content lately. Hope this gives a bit of insight. I really respect your work, and I hope you get out of your slump.

In my opinion videos with more goofing is generally better since they more show the real difference between Jazza-energy and teacher vibe. Like the collab for scrap built terrain when there was actual dumpster diving involved. That did not add to the art part of making the piece but it gave the video a lot of character and charm. I also watch some miniature painting channels and my favourite ones are Squidmar and Tabletop time since they try to balance the art with nonsense and mostly succedes. I also like some more focused channels but the goofiness is what makes me feel happy when a new video shows up in the feed.

The fact you are adressing and taking in the criticisms and building your own path based on what you feel and what others have said are wonderful. I personally liked your work for a while now but I do have some stuff I would like to see you do more or experiment with. Character designing for nonhuman characters as I've noticed you do either Humans or monsters and nothing in the line of anthro stuff or anything inbetween. Another thing that falls inline with this is maybe taking apart a animated film or show, addressing what works and maybe making your own spin on things. So pointing out art style, Character design, environments and maybe divolging what are your favourite elements that you personally enjoy. For example, say if we had the show Steven Universe. Steven is known as a kind, easy to approach character. This presents itself with his bright yet soft blues and pinks, his rounded body shape and his sweet but happy to see you grin. that kinda thing. Another thing that might be fun is completely letting loose on expressive, visually strange stuff. Or what I like to say is loosening your wrists. Go full edd ed n eddy or classic aardman and push the usage of shapes and facial and body expression, rubberhose and a like. I noticed you keep a lot of your work neatly built up and more realistic focused. As much as I love your work on that side of things, I feel like you need a good balance of your signature style and a more exaggerated approach. Something akin to dead pool, the mask or Marvels The SlapStick would be really interesting to see. Like Who Framed Roger Rabbit which is one of my big inspirations! Keep in mind these are just some suggestions so make of it what you will and hope this helps at all. It's something I'm trying to work on as well and I keep sticking to a specific style and that's making my creative freedom regress a little. But if you want to hear more of me babble on for house about this stuff my messages are open. Love to see what you come up with! Hope this is okay as a Question. But what are your tips for a good character design? Colour balance/pallet, accessories, shapes etc. Because I have 4 main characters that I feel still need a good look to really stand out. A cocky, persistent yet heroic strong legged rabbit, A small, timid, kind mouse who loves to cook and explore. A slender, freespirited Dragonfly who's fun to be around. Also a Stoic, closed eyed intelident moth who doesn't show that much expression in his face. Usually, I try to experiment with shape play or using colours, I usually ensure they all have Yellow in their design to connect them together but their own colour to make them look unique. But I feel like something is missing and I don't have anyone to creatively bounce off of if you get my drift?

Always love your videos, art oriented, instructive and storytelling you put into it. I like the silly, goofy moments and dad jokes that come naturally in the videos 🥰 The spontaneous yet fitting the initial script. My favourite videos are those where you truly enjoy it (first in mind is you playing LOTR characters on green screen - true contentment and hapiness of an adult sharing his passion to all☺️) I also appear happiest when i truly do what i enjoy the most. These are genuine feelings. As a small content creator, i do not have the pressure of your magnitude. Having to manage a business and people's livelihood depending on you is too much of a burden, not to be seen through your videos, regardless of make-up, prepping work done upfront. A solution could be to leave certain aspects of your business to someone you entrust with and focus only on what you truly want most. Life is already too hard at the moment everywhere in the world, for everybody to just spread yourself this thin like butter on bread. I thank you for making all these videos over all these years sharing your art, your personal life, .... Which have been an inspiration to me and start pursuing my passion in art (late in my life - parent with young child). Your videos helped me at difficult times in my life without knowing i even existed on the other side of the world. Thank you Jazza and hope to see your next adventures soon! ❤

As a fan and follower of your channel since about the beginning of Covid I’ve seen you progress and reach many milestones. As I’ve stated before you were a huge influence and have inspired me and many to push our arts to new levels. I don’t see anything wrong with your channel the way it is now and what you’re doing is always been great and there’s nothing wrong with having reached a place where you are comfortable and producing consistently to maintain your business and your brand. That being said I’m sure you can find things to improve and you always should as an artist look for ways to improve. I think your OCD makes you question yourself and always look for flaws but maybe there aren’t as many as you think. Stop doubting yourself and just be confident in what you do. As the saying goes you could never be done learning!

I'm casually interested in art, but I don't have the drive to take the time and learn for my self, so usually I drop off most art channels wishing a month or two, but I've really stuck with your channel and even given Tabletop Time a go even though I don't usually listen to/watch tabletop gaming, so you're doing something right that at least resonates with me and keep me coming back.

@jazza Starting off in your bedroom doing voices and animating was the best channel I found as a wanna to be creator (& being of the same age). Your "How To's" & Tutorials, as simple as they were, are still inspirational! I understand the YT algorithm pushed a "type" of video format & everyone needed to adapt to this but when there was an Old School live going on, I would tune in at around 1:30am local to watch but now with a bigger "production", I find myself watching less and less. It's a great success story and achievement for sure and I do NOT knock Jazza's abilities or skills but YT has pushed amazing creators like Jazza into a template corner I feel. The creations are cool and well done and you truly seem down to earth but I do understand there is only so much you can sit and draw, but I do miss the OG "Draw with Jazza". YT is killing animation.

I'm ngl, i havent watched your content in a few years, however, i do keep up with the channel every so often. I basically have been viewing the channel from a thumbnail and title perspective, and what ive been seeing is exactly what the redditer commented. It just seems as if Jazza is running out of ideas for content, or money is running low - i felt this especially when the camera-man/editor guy (sorry i forgot his name) quit the channel. I do think you will find the place you truly deserve on youtube, at the moment i can see the struggle of keeping up with it (the youtube algorithm hellscape). At the end of the day, i hope that you, someone who i used to watch religiously and really brought me to art, can carry on doing what you love to do

As a long time viewer, the newer videos have been missing the "exploring of the unknown". Before you would show your whole process, ups and downs but nowdays its only the later part of the process. I love your vidros where you plan out and explain your vision in your sketchbook and then turn it into smth amazing. It's very satisfying to see that. Also surprises in your videos, good or bad, are very welcome. That is a bit more up for interpretation.

The best are the videos that are..well.. real. I’ve noticed people don’t like the full “production” feel of content and I agree. They like a bit of chaos, the mistakes, not yelling the whole time, not being political, not being uptight etc. Just a nice flow like you are a dear friend and we are sitting together and making art. One of us may mess up and giggle about it and not get all uptight and angry. None of that “gen z” way of making content. Especially if you’re an older youtuber who may have an older audience. It’s tricky. Being a content creator as a job is tricky and hard. I think just be real, don’t be fake. Also, TikTok has ruined KZbin in a way too. Shorts seem to be a hit for a lot of creators but then you get a lot of people asking for long form content but it’s tricky because you cannot please everyone.

I'm watching your channel for may years by now and you've been my favorite KZbinr for most of them. But lately, I've been less and less excited about new videos dropping. And I agree with many here that your videos are less intimate, there is basically no failure to suffer with you. A big part of this is definitely due to more montages with voiceovers than being "live" with you while creating your work. And because you take on so many videos on so many channels and have a whole production team behind you, the videos feel "mass-produced". I believe there are some reasons why it feels that way: 1. Every video has the same structure: the dabble, the dive and an ambitious piece. It might make sense to approach it this way, but the failures are kept to pieces that don't matter and the big piece is always just a montage instead of an interaction with you. 2. In many projects you outsource parts of it to others. This is fine when they add an interesting segment on their own like it was with bits of the tabletop crew but it feels like something is missing if Allysia did all the coloring/lineart and only adds a voice-over/comments afterward. This feels unrewarding. This might just be personal, but I feel the same about the amount of 3D printing lately. I know that this is a nice tool to make things easier, but if you do a diorama and every piece is 3D printed from models someone else created, I feel like it lacks personality or effort. It's hard to describe but I feel less excited for those kinds of videos. 3. This might be controversial and totally personal but in my opinion, there is too much fan art and way too little original content. It is Mario here, Joker there, add another random superhero/villain over there. It might be better for clicks, I understand that but I always loved to follow your creative process like who is this character, what makes him unique, and why do I want to follow his journey. It was really interesting in the time you got into storytelling and every creation had its own background. Nowadays I feel like it is more like a "famous character but in a weird medium" (which also can be cool if it's not the only thing in your channel) or only a tiny twist hanging loosely without any deeper engagement (e.g. the Pokemon fight, but role reversal). I know that the character creation sessions weren't that popular on KZbin but I enjoyed them especially when there was live input and silly ideas from the community where the whole character suddenly got cursed. The "hidden" character creation sessions like "drawing characters as described in books" really lack soul in my opinion because the description is just based on looks, not personality and story and because they aren't your "babies" but someone else's.

I found your channel years ago when you did a collaboration with Baylee Jae. I was looking for good how to draw videos. I’m not a fantastic artist by any means, but I was looking to learn more. Once I found your channel I stopped watching all the other ones I found because you had great how to draw videos. I actually went back to the beginning and watched probably 90% of the videos you posted. My favorites are your character design sessions. Creating an image from a few random prompts was amazing to me. I can draw, but I have a hard time coming up with my own ideas. Seeing what you can create from that was awe inspiring. There did come a point a few years later when I felt that the direction your videos were going in were hitting a different market. It felt like a younger market was in mind. I was 27 at the time, but there was something about it that didn’t interest me as much. It could be the rebranding from “Draw with Jazza” to just “Jazza” which then allowed you to branch out creatively. Which honestly isn’t bad because I’ve seen some amazing creations from you that were not drawing related, but there were some videos out that were not really art/drawing/creative process related (if I remember correctly?) I’ve recently started watching your videos again and slowing making my way back to all the ones I missed, and there are quite a few non drawing related videos I really enjoyed. I think a lot of it is more of presentation? I did see a few comments about how your videos go by so fast. I’ve noticed there are a lot more voice overs after the video was recorded, and I feel like we get a stronger connection to you when the video is slowed and you are walking us through your process right there. Sometimes the videos feel less of an interaction with us and the medium and what you’re doing and more of a push to get the final product with no process and to get content out. I’m working on watching all of the videos I missed, but there are quite a few that I’m passing up because it doesn’t seem as interesting to me. I’m someone who also has a lot of interest in different forms of art and dabbling in different mediums, and so seeing you try out different things with not much experience is really cool and makes me want to try too. The videos I pass though could be very interesting to someone else! So really you are trying to cater to the 100 different interests of all the people out there when not everyone enjoys the same things. I think the important part is that you are doing something you’re creatively interested in and not what the other interests or trends are at the time. Seeing your genuine enjoyment out of a project and the final results says a lot. I feel like I saw that with the recent domed painting video. Not sure if any of this is actually helpful… but there ya go! I’m going to become a Patreon subscriber now. (My first ever!)

Hi Jazza, trying to be constructive in my feedback. I stumbled upon your channel when I was in my Harry Potter rabbit hole. Only got hooked onto and started binge watching your videos after discovering the hilarious Bob Ross challenges. For me, the art medium is not important. It's the lightness and fun part of the older videos. The more recent uploads feel more heavy, better prepared, more edited and the thumbnail slightly over-styled. It's a difficult one, as you probably always want to develop and not go back in time. Really hope you'll find that sweet spot where the algorithm is rewarding the amazing stuff you create, in whatever form.

I think because you have done so much you have a huge audience who came to your channel for so many different things and aspects. Which is great, but then you are not going to please everyone all the time and that’s fine, not a bad thing. For me, the videos I stop and watch are inherently videos of you just being you. I came to this channel because of your personality. Don’t get me wrong I love the work you do and you inspired me to get back into art after a massive gap. You inspired me to dabble sharing my art onto KZbin for a while. But the reason I watch a channel is because of the person behind it. I enjoy watching you having fun, experiment with new stuff and just be a bit goofy and the person you are. When you are having fun and doing something which makes you excited, it’s so clear and your enthusiasm is absolutely infectious. When you’re willing to share the good the bad and the ugly (most recent example being the rug tufting video) I’m there for that. But then I get why you also need to do the videos which hit the algorithm you have bigger responsibilities and people who rely on you for a paycheque which, having been there done that is not fun. It has to be 10 times harder because they rely on you being you on camera. Just keep being the awesome person you are and sharing the things you like. If you are excited enough about something the rest of the world will care about that with you. While the KZbin gods may not like it, you audience will, which in turn will teach the KZbin gods they are wrong :)

I have found myself recently watching your vlog but not your main channel and honestly trying to think on the spot why that might be i think as soon as your main videos were more "corporate" for lack of a better term i think thats when i didnt feel as close to them as i used to. also bare in mind the audience you started with had grown up by like 10-5 years and as much as youve grown with them maybe alot of people have grown out of that content? not facts here just off the cuff thoughts that hopefully help you in some way. i watch channels like "north of the border" though which is similar to you in terms of making stuff so maybe have some polls on content ideas on vlogs? cause i must be one of many people who love you as a person but dont really watch your main channel videos anymore but still want to see you succeed in everything you do cause your a great guy, talented and fun to watch. hope im not coming across as mean cause its your content is valuable and great but maybe just tastes have changed. theres many youtubers i watch but i dont feel particularly emotionally invested however i dont really watch your content anymore but i AM emotionally invested in you and want to see you succeed. i hope that makes any sense and hope it helps in some way. stay groovy Jos, you've got this mate :)

First off I love Jazza. He is the reason why I got back into art and am still at it. I don't know if it's a rough patch, but with how many employees he has, he is running a business, KZbin cuts his paycheck, and he cuts his paycheck for his employees. It's also a rough time for youtubers. I will admit I love the old Jazza videos, but if he wants big elaborate videos for his audience to enjoy, then try and enjoy them. Personally I really like him trying new art supplies, or his pokemon videos, or just even sitting down and giving us a tutorial. Not all of it has to be elaborate like the rug tufting. But as someone who has depression, and understands to a point. I just want him to do what makes him happy.

😊 From what I understand is what you're looking for is more good criticism on the things you make. As in what and why is it about something you've made that people like most about it. I enjoy seeing you have fun and learn new things. You seem to always find something new to you to try out, and it can sometimes be a challenge. Like with the rug tufting, you got back to it and did a great job! You had some expectations prior to starting it, and when it wasn't going the way you thought it should, you didn't give up. You just took a step back to take your time on how it needs to be done. And that's perfectly normal. The tree horse sculpture is another example. That was a great learning project. But I mainly love to see you enjoy what you want to make. -That's why there's many different types of artists in the world. They do what they enjoy doing, not focused soley on what their viewers want from them. You can't please everyone.

I feel like what appeals to a watcher on KZbin is very much what appeals about art also: being genuine. Genuine opinions, wins and fails and passion. If you do not absolutely love what you create the viewer will notice. Running after algorithm trends is good for one time views but it doesn't create longevity. Work on projects you adore, for 2-3 videos. I've also noticed a trend of longer and longer videos being the norm, so something longer and more relaxed might also work. That's my two cents.

Been subbed for years, not watched a lot of the recent stuff. As a Warcraft guy I'll always prefer the monstrous, gruesome drawings/paintings. But that's something pretty separate from your "Learn to draw, kids!" more professional/adult/non-edgy vibe. It's also what I'm looking for in the Warhammer stuff. Idk if this style is something you still do in your spare time, but if you do, maybe add them to the vlog channel as an occasional miniseries? But still, main channel doing some 700k+ videos and most of the others around 200k+ doesn't seem bad at all tbh. I mean, I'm closing in on 30, idk if me and those like me are the audience you wanna focus on. You're still showing a lot of interesting experimentation and techniques, so I don't really know if the criticism is that serious of a problem. If y'all are happy, enjoy it mate.

My favorite things to see are when you try a new medium you have no idea how to use or when you make art with things that are not intended to be art supplies.

Not a question, but I do miss a lot of the behind-the-scenes stuff you would release after the fact. Mostly because it felt really nice to have someone lift the veil and say "this is what we worked on, etc" and I thought to myself "OH! I can relate to this struggle." As a smaller creator, it's kinda nice and comforting to see you handle the creative process. Also, a really healthy response to criticism. You keep doing what you can to stay honest. I think you're a good mix of understanding the algorithm while still making something meaningful to your audience.

Less of a question, and more of an observation here. While I may be missing something, I am glad to see that on the whole; people are able to separate what Jazza does from the meltdown his brother Shad is going through - especially considering Shad’s continued support/defense of AI image generation. Though I also see a point where Jazza would have to comment publicly - if only for the long term health and sustainability of his own channels.

I'll admit I haven't watched regularly since I had my first kid a year ish ago. I find I gravitate towards more vlogs or livestreams of cozy games, I really enjoy the slower content that's longer form - since if my toddler distracts me for part of it I don't have to rewind and re-watch any parts. (of which totally been loving the pokemon role play series btw!!)

I like your videos were you explore new mediums the most. The closest to this one recently was “Paint vs Paint Pens”, but it was framed as a contest when I would have preferred to see more of you exploring the medium and its techniques, perhaps saving the more gimicky “paint vs paint pens” for a follow-up video. Some cool mediums I personally want to see you try: Caran D’Ache Neocolors I & II, Silverpoint/Metalpoint, Trois Crayons, Conté Crayons.

I think honestly this is a thought question. I think, when i go back and binge youre videos whilst doing somthing creative, the ones i keep watching vs the ones i skip are the ones where you feel more personal with the audience. And i think, because of the nature of KZbin, and because of how amazingly successful youve been, the growth of the team and having more people in jazz a studios, has meant that theres less of an, i guess, intimate, connection in some of the recent videos. That’s not to say all of the recent ones. And its not to say all of the old ones had it. But i will gravitate towards videos where you get drunk on stream, or where you react to art attack, or where you try to use tick rock for the first time, and even videos like when you first tried stone carving. Because those videos felt a lot more personal. And its tricky, because its wonderful to see the team of amazing people you’re surrounded yourself with, and giving them the platform to do what you have done for so many, is fantastic, but videos where you envolve the whole team, to me, will never have the same charm as watching a drunk Aussie shout at George RR Martin. Im not sure but i think a way of getting the best of both worlds would be to approach videos in the same way as the ones that used to have the jazza avatar in the thumbnail. A simple premise that isn’t rushed and has a lot of you joking with us and laughing at how shit you some times are (painting with sweets), but including the rest of the team in a more collaborative way, where perhaps instead of handing the work off to sombody else to finish, you both work on a piece together with us. Idk, i have really no experience doing what you do with this scale of content creation, and maybe what i think might work just wouldn’t in the algorithm. But as far as why some recent videos have started to feel “off”, thats my two cents. Equally it may just be the nostalgia talking (tho if you feel it too then maybe not), you are maybe the biggest reason i really got into art, and today i just finished my first year at art uni, so thank you for every part you’ve played in that. (Sorry for the long message, and you probably wont read this as its a few days late. But if you do, i hope i helped, and all this being said, i still love the new content, so as long as there’s jazza videos to watch, im happy :))

Q: Are you considering any more collaboration projects with other artists to challenge your creative style? Are you interested in learning any new artistic medium like you did in the past for other projects like when you went out to learn how to learn pottery, spray painting, or metal working? Possibly leather crafting? Woodworking and turning? Resin art? Costume design? Expanding your own current creative style is always interesting to watch.

Hi Jazza, I have been watching your channels for quite a while now. I agree with others on not being as interested in the fantasy stuff. Here and there is ok but I would love to see more simple art. I know that might be more difficult to sell on the algorithm though. I do love watching you on this channel all the time and I occasionally still watch the main channel when something interests me. I loved the dome painting for example. I hope that helps.

Q: If you had the resources to bring back a project that you've had to put on hold, what would it be, and how would things change? : ) Criticism is a very strong character builder, as well as just being a great thing to help you grow. I'll be the first to admit that I can be really bad at giving criticism, especially to things I like. Thats something I need to work on a lot haha.

I think alot of the art scene on youtube right now arent getting the views they used to. I think the art stuff that is quite popular are stuff that involved things the audience of people continue to enjoy or understand prior, like fandoms or films. (e.i, gibli or starwars or DnD However, what encourages people to return to your page is the personality. People enjoy the longerform content of watching someone they like the personality of, figure out a puzzle or challenge. The shortform content is good but we dont get to see much of you and the challenges involved. Its just a speedrun to the finish, which might be good for casual binging , but the moment they get bored of watching things get created, they move on. The shortform content right now feels like im watching to see the finished pieces themselves and not to see the artists journey to MAKE the finish pieces.

I think its the pressure youtube puts on creators to chase algorithms that messes with their mental health and in turns pressure on them to move towards content that performs better and away the content that in their heart they want to do. If only you had the space to try more freeing content sometimes and 3xperiment. We as artists need that but it goes againgst youtubes algorithms. Just a thought.

Commenting on the desensitization to positive comments as I think it's a pretty interesting topic. Since if youre always looking for something more; what is that more? If youre not simply looking to be one of the best Art channels on KZbin, (I think you've hit this and I believe that to be a pretty objective measure, not a personal opinion) then what is the goal? Where would you like to go? See, the reason people have a hard time with giving constructive feedback is that they dont know how you would like to be. You're already what they're looking for. So how can one guide someone if they dont know where they want to be going? A part of feeling down might be the lack of direction. Not knowning where to go so the future is unclear.

Honestly this might not work as a video cause of how sort of specific it is, but I've been able to find almost no resources on how to come back to art after having stopped for a long time due to injury. Long story short, I was forced to stop drawing at all for a couple of years, and now I'm in this weird space where I can do some things better than ever, while other things look like I'm just starting. Like..... I was never a master artist or anything, but I was able to do a LOT better when it came to full body portraits and such, but after injuring my arm and coming back, I can't get full body to turn out no matter what method I use to try and keep proportions in line.

Q: Hey Jazza, been a fan of yours for awhile, not just in an artsy sense but as a creator who's been a voice for positivity and positive work in the community. You have such a big work space and your family has such a big space, do you have to work all day/every day to not only put content into all your channels but take time for your kids and your lovely wife? Or do you and your team have a bit more flexibility because there's a lot of you working together?

I would like to state here that this is my opinion, and it may not be an opinion shared!!! I must admit, I've always loved watching you more as a PERSON rather than an artist/creator/etc. That's why I tend to click more on Jazza Vlog videos than Jazza videos. I'm about to go to college so life's been busy. I don't have the time to enjoy random art TikTok videos or cartoon swapped character designs, and I feel many people are the same. I like learning about how to deal with your art career and how you run a studio. I haven't watched any Jazza videos in a while because I feel like the thumbnails and titles have been not authentic/interesting Think about what audience you are targeting and how to show them that your video is worth clicking on. Is it the younger generation? Older generation? Would it be worth it to pursue the new fans or try to cater to older fans that may have grown up from your content? What about people in general who just love creating? Right now, I've been hearing from many creators saying that it's better to create a loyal audience rather than always chasing a trend. Now step into the audience's shoes. Look at your thumbnail and video and ask yourself "Would I want to watch this?" Is it worth stopping my doom scroll to watch this video? Is it worth delaying my college essay? Would I learn something of value that I can apply to my life? Etc. I've realized me and other people tend to put things in our Watch Later playlist, so urgency is also a big factor too. Hmmm think about the YT art landscape now. I can't tell if it's just me, but the mainstream art style has really shifted towards more of an anime style. If you think about it, Eastern animation is a lot popular vs Western because corporations like Disney aren't making that good stuff anymore. Popular cartoons for the younger folk are Hazbin Hotel, The Amazing Digital Circus, MLP, Bluey- Ngl, the styles of those shows are far from realistic, and I believe you have a cartoon + realistic style. The younger generation is overstimulated from short form content, and I noticed that effects their taste on art styles too. Everyone now prefers sparkles, hair accessories everywhere. Character designs as detailed as Genshin characters are considered the new standard. People drawing with over accessorized long nails and glass pens. People now need to make their art have big attention grabbing eyes with highlights in places that don't make sense just so that people don't need to watch subway surfers along with their art just to be entertained! I used to watch you for your art tutorials, but now I feel like I've developed my own style. I'm at the point of skill where I don't watch your videos because I like the art, but because I admire you as a person rather than an artist. Gosh this is long, but I have so much stuff I would talk about just seeing the art creator space right now... So here's my take away on what I PERSONALLY think you should do along with some suggestions 1. Instead of focusing what others want/trends, focus on what you personally find fun and make sure your audience can feel it 2. YT Videos are long form content, so don't try to be short form. The most powerful thing with long form is that you create a lasting impression and connection with the viewer. If someone wants a dopamine rush they'll go to YT Shorts. People you form a connection with will participate in events, buy your merch, come back to you, and they'll write comments (maybe) like this! Continue to cater to the mainstream: 3. You're always trying out some new medium and your videos usually feel scattered. Maybe try starting a series with a similar formula so there's more consistency through your videos? Like Michelle Khare's Challenge Accepted series or the Try Guy's Without a Recipe series. oh wow it's 3am now and I took a bit over an hour compiling my thoughts- sorry if some of it doesn't make sense. I meant everything I said with sincerity and I wish you the best!

The only way I can describe it is that the newer content feels like it's in a rush. It feels like it's a longer video trying to be a 15 minute video. My favourite videos are the new craft ones but it feels like even with those i've barely digested the dabble before we move forward and we're skipping to the big final project. I also watched the first few "drawing character swaps" but I've not felt like clicking one for a while. Might be a me thing but it also kinda feels like very similar content in each video.

I honestly think the main issue is that a lot of the most recent projects feel 1, not born out of passion and 2, rushed and unfinished. Is not every video, but it happens more often lately. To give an example, the idea of sculpting the creatures from the bible as originally described is great, but the final results are not all that good. It's clear you have to meet certain deadlines and that's why the promise of the videos is bigger than the final result. Maybe that is also why some of my favorite results involve Alysha polishing and finishing your concepts, the final art actually looks finished and complete, and therefore more appealing and satisfying. I know that living off of making content for KZbin is not easy, but you need to make sure that you're not rushing your creative process just to serve the algorithm. Go back to basics, I'm sure that'll help A LOT.

Agree with so much said. Love the ooopppss, laughing and learning. Enjoy collabs. Seeing creative people with differing style together is fun. You are so generous and kind with them. Sara Renae Clark is a favorite. From her I foumd Aussie Crafter. Much like some older videos, she does what interests her, she makes mistakes and learns from them, and just seems nice like you. A collab with her would be fun. Overall I like your videos, liked the spaceship because of how you pushed yourself again, but miss some slower paced video edits with talking as you work. Big projects are certainly fun to watch, and I do want to see some but smaller projects that seem more attainable or reasonable for many who watch is where we get most inspired.

I loved to see HOW you made things. Often I'm disappointed when you eddit it out or timelaps through it. Sure, I'm very curious about the result. But I am more interested in the struggel of how you make it. It doesn't have to be all realtime, it would take probably too long. But please take the time to really show us what you learned and how. Hope that makes sense. Wish you the best❤ Edit: Just now watching the spaceship video. Maybe this is just me, but can you please tone done the music when you are explaning things? I want to listen to you, but i get distracted by the music. Sorry if being nosy, so if only a thing by me, ignore it.
