Hi guys we are in Chile and we had the same issue. We were told to contact the electricity companies. They came and put the tower and extended the wires to the entry of our land where we had to get an electrician to bring it to our house. Cost was $0 up to the entrance of our land as there is a law here that says everyone is entitled to electricity and the companies have to provide this service. Cost of electrician to bring wires and connect to the house was about $1,000. You might want to investigate this and see if Portugal has a similar law and connection with the electricity companies there. Good luck. Totally understand the fire stress as we have them here every year as well and boy o boy how hard it is that fire direction keeps on changing with wind and we have to stay vigil on the situations. I hope they’ll be controlled soon so you can breath better and relax again.

Thankfully your safe from the fire. I live in Canada and we are currently dealing with fires in several provinces. Some of my family are currently evacuated because of the fires in Kelowna, British Columbia and friends in Yellowknife, NWT. Praying there homes are safe. My niece lost her home to a wildfire several years ago. She rebuilt but literally lost everything. Wildfires are very scary. So glad you are doing your part on your land to make the water mill safe

I feel for you guys and what Portugal is going through with the wildfires. I live in British Columbia in Canada, and the whole province is under a state of emergency due to forest fires. People have lost their homes and cottages. Evacuees are being put up in hotels and people are also opening up their homes. A bible camp where my nieces and nephew were going to go has cancelled their programs in order to host evacuees.

Great job on the solar power system Drew! 🎉👏You should be able to manage just fine in the winters off-grid with a larger battery bank and generators to back up the panels on grey days. When you expand in the future, just add another solar powered system to each new addition. Remember, you can buy a heck of a lot of panels and batteries for the cost of hooking up to the grid, plus that monthly bill! Definitely look into setting up a micro-hydro system, you are in the perfect place for it and we have every confidence in your skills. We lived completely off grid in the snowy mountains outside of Taos, New Mexico for 15 years, I think once you have some time to enjoy that larger solar/battery system, you won't want to go back to the grid. Remember, that power grid sets up more wires that can be blown down in the wind and start fires, you've got this. Let your solar power system grow with you, pouco a pouco.👍

I’m in New Jersey, and approximately three weeks ago, we had a poor air quality alert. We were able to smell the smoke from the wildfires in Canada for a few days. So, don’t be surprised if you might smell the smoke for a while also. Praying and wishing you safety. 🙏🙏🙏❤️

Not a Portuguese man of war they have an inflated bladder on top, this looks more like a lions mane. I've taken my kayak up and down the river there many times. if you want a day adventure you can paddle up to Silves, if you time it right with the tides you can get a free push from the incoming tide. That little niche you swam by is a fisherman's shrine with a saints statue in. Keep safe.

A consideration is a water tower or creating an elevated pond as a mechanical storage battery and as a source of pressurized water. When you have sunlight you use solar power to pump water up. When there is no sun you use water from water tower and gravity to generate power. If your place was a working mill something like this likely exists Consider underground power especially if you have high winds. Much safer if allowed by local regulations. Sprinklers on your roof also useful to reduce temperature and in case of fire mitigation of flying embers

We have a tropical storm blowing through California and just had an earthquake in Ojai. Mother Nature is struggling. Look what just happened with the poor people in Maui. The future is extremely unsettled as the climate changes. No one is safe anymore. In a home, or in a mobile home, this new normal affects us all. Nice storytelling in this video! Drew is so handy! But I can see where he learned a lot from his dad when helping Drew's parents. So tackling a working watermill to generate power, as so many have commented on, is just another step in your renovation adventure. I love Brittany's ideas on living. She has a beautiful sensitivity about the environment. It is true that with our climate changes, nothing is certain, but the validation that we are all connected to every element of our earth. Everything that we do affects our environment, even just using reusable coffee pods! Good for the environment, good for your finances. It is so much cheaper to use reusable pods. The used coffee grounds can be composted along with the rest of your kitchen scraps. Composting is good for the earth and plants! I wondered if you were okay after hearing about the fires in Portugal. We have experienced the destructive forces of wildfires in Northern California. Now with the remnants of hurrican Hillary rolling through California, frends and family are dealing with too much water or fires from the lightning strikes and earthquakes. Glad you are safe. @@amcab1625 Thank you, we are in Northern Manitoba, we have had quite a bit of smoke, this year, but thankfully enough rain in our area to keep the fire danger down, a few weeks back the second community WNW of us, had to be evacuated to here, as a fire was close on it's West side. I keep documents, and our two laptops, ready to go, just grab the cat and her supplies, into the Jeep, which is always fully fueled, and we are gone. My family got burned out decades back, it is always on my mind in fire season. But, hey, we don't have to worry about hurricane, tornadoes or earth quakes.👍😎

Thanks for the sensitive way you are commenting on the fire. We live in Relva Grande and would have been evacuated if we hadn't been away visiting family and friends. It was awful watching the progress from afar and seeing how close the fire got to home. Like you, we had mixed emotions watching the wind change direction, as it meant that our place was OK, but our friends were then right in line. In the end, the fire got within about 600m of our house and land, which, very fortunately, remain untouched. We have friends were not so lucky.

Smokey haze on south Vancouver Island from the the wildfires in the interior of BC in Canada, about 450km away depending on which fire. Very scary for the 40,000+ evacuated and more on notice. Also in NWT where 20,000 were evacuated from Yellowknife. Worse fire season in the country is what we are hearing. Seems so many countries are encountering the same. Always good to see YT ‘family’ are doing all they can to stay safe.
