This continues to be such a very important and scientifically honest view of the situation in 2021. And yet it may be an understatement, as governments have done almost naught and achieved precious little since 2017. The curve humanity faces in coming off the rise in GHG due to increasing and continued use of fossil fuels is now a veritable precipice. At 13:30 Anderson says we've never had a problem like this. Actually, before the American Civil War slaves represented the largest single asset class. Today, fossil fuels are the greatest single asset class. If you think those that hold fossil fuel assets will give them up on their own forget about it.

Change has to come from top down. The drastic change in food production methods, transportation, housing, packaging, waste disposal, energy use. These are societal issues and cannot be effected by individual actions. It takes the law and government and science and strict enforcement. Not everybody will agree. Changes cannot be voluntary or optional.

climate change is a like a gigantic tidal wave. Some see it coming and are worried, wondering when it will arrive and what they can do about it, a few scientists are scrambling to warn others, but most are in complete denial. I started to pay attention to climate change in 2013, after I quit EPA [the US gov including EPA has never done anything about it]. I read the current IPCC Report [AR4] and was shocked by the enormous caveats, optimistic models and unfounded assumptions all of which were geared to underestimate the threat, issues like ice cap melting and feedbacks, and this hasnt changed, it continues.

26:50 modular construction is great idea unfortunately items are designed to not be modular on purpose ... so you know you dont need to buy just compressor you need to buy whole damn fridge. Beside that what about designed expiration date... Its a lot of talking and nothing changes. Try convincing companies to make stuff solid so it does last for decades not years and we can start talking again

There is nothing that will stop fossil fuel emissions of carbon dioxide, except for the significant reduction of the human population and our global economic system. If the climate significantly disrupts the global economic system, the population will shrink.

Nonsense. We have the technology today to eliminate most fossil fuel use. It's just a matter of goring some very large oxen. If you want to say there is nothing that will stop ExxonMobil et al., I won't argue, but it's a political decision. It's not for lack of technology, and we do not have to live in caves and cross the ocean in container ships.

Even while we were warned YEARS ago that we needed to be cutting CO2 emissions year after year through 2030. We're not only NOT doing that, We're still burning even more. Even as renewables grow too.

Once again so much talk about CO2 emission and role of technology to address it...some references to change in lifestyles but inadequate...I would have appreciated if the host or Prof Kevin not not 'loose talk' about lifestyle changes and be more specific about what exactly does he support in terms of alternative paradigmes?....Degrowth -SSE or any other....without delving into these critical discussions (driving everything else) i am afraid these discussions do nothing more than scare and numb most viewers...first step towards denial..I support your efforts but Dr Stuart Scott this channel can be a lot more radical considering you agree there is nothing left to lose.

John, 'we' are trying to push global action. You are right in your assessment that there is scant evidence that ENOUGH is happening. But change is not a linear process. It occurs in jumps. YOU need to help make that jump. How? Share this channel and its content widely, hook up with citizensclimatelobby.org or the other groups pushing for significant changes. Or possibly support the 'paradigm shifting' Nobel Peace Prize proposal at NP4SD.org. With each person that decides to take personal action, our chances of survival improve.

His basis for this is past ice cycles, but such are not relevant to the current facts; ice caps usually have taken centuries but we are not in that context.

Heres an interesting insight ....think on a model of the Earth to gain an insight into how fragile and precious our living space / biosphere actually is. An 8inch football = Earth 1mile = one thou inch. Therefore half mile up and half mile down = 1 mile .... usable space = the thickness of a cigarette paper (0.001"). Note copier paper is too thick at 4 miles, newsprint ditto at 2 miles.

"we've failed to do our jobs properly" Yes, in fifty years scientists haven't realized that only 1/3 of voters identify as "technical" or "scientific" and get their climate science information from reading or lectures, the rest of us non-scientists are kinesthetic learners, with an entirely different learning style, who still deserve to understand enough to be able to identify and support good solutions when they arise. Every scientist should be paired with a K-12 educator and a liberal arts major, before they communicate to the public.

Our Planet and its creatures that live within its biosphere has so much interdependence. We are unable to predict the outcome, but one thing is for sure, Humans will not be able to keep burning fossil fuel and survive. We are at a point that in just a few generations humans will have a much smaller inhabitable zone to live and grow food. Our Generation will see profound changes that will kill millions. Shame considering it's the one thing that could save the human race if it were considered and acted upon. But as that seems impossible, nature will do it's own dirty work and remove the majority of people from this planet anyway, via flood, drought, famine.

Lou, thanks for your engagement. You are one of the rare people who are 'walking the walk', literally and figuratively. Thank you for that, and for sharing this media with others. The 'fly to a city' meetings certainly have to stop in the future. I declined to go to a conference in Montenegro, so they said I could make my presentation by Skype. So this is happening. Fast enough, I don't think so. But as the damage from climate change becomes clearer, these sorts of things will happen faster. Whether or not the planet will stabilize in a range we can survive with is the question. The theme music was written by a friend and is actually based upon a metaphysical/spiritual set of tonalities and vowel sounds. It is meant to resonate in the spirit or soul. Exactly, it's climate chaos we're obviously facing. Climate change is so weak a term, as easily denied. Then "global warming" while may the the problem on the aggregate whole scale, the suspiciously overlooked major factor of deforestation, should've tweaked that term into GLOBAL WARNING long ago. Cuz forests are known to be the major climate stabilizers. So clearcut logging causes a wrecking ball swing of extremes, be it between droughts & floods or temperature extremes. We got our first frost Aug 28th this year

I'd love to listen to this but it's just too unbearable. It's always men talking. All the reasons we are in the shithole is because we adopt mens' systems. I recognize that there are "plenty of good men". But money is a totally male idea as is an economy as is language even itself (remember - women were prohibited from getting an education or being involved in public life) So the same concepts keep doing the rounds. You'd think that hearing from men so much, they are always on panels and women input is rarely invited, so we keep on rehashing the same old concepts. Men cannot see out of their box, women can. The male system is so backed up on itself like a faulty sewer line, it just can't get out of its own way. You would think men would be curious about getting another point of view. Women don't get things done that is true, but women have better ideas because women are used to change - their bodies change a lot throughout life so change is baked in for women. But men just get jammed up. Why are men not asking women to engage with them in these discussions? It's not even a thang.
