This content very much mirrors my own recent thoughts. I saw a ferruginous hawk a couple of days ago. I was confused, because where I am at is outside it's normal range. All of the planet is in chaos. Miraculously, I am doing ok. I am so grateful for that. I am doing my best to do the tiny things I can do to have a positive impact, but it is very difficult.

Right, so the best thing to do is have one or none child per couple. It will slow the demise, and will result in fewer people having to suffer. Right now, six of the eight billion people on Earth live with great deprivation. Two billion in China, Russia, Egypt, Iran, and North Korea live under dictators who have kept them in poverty. Not having a democratic society is bad enough but the average person in China and Russia is poor. Then there is the great poverty of four billion people in India, Indonesia, Myanmar, The Philippines, Madagascar, Africa, and Latin American. People living on the streets, suffering noise and pollution. Even in the well of countries of Europe, North America, Australia, Japan, South Korea, and New Zealand, there are one hundred million poor people. Stop having more than one child per couple. Idealy, find love in helping the people that are already here.

Overly simplistic. Naive. Our problems are based on science and physics. Mommy didn't kill us. We killed Mommy. She is terminal, unconscious, and on life support. She fell off the cliff 50 years ago. Humanity will never accept the complexity of our dire predicament. Human beings lack empathy and ability to integrate and react to anything other than direct immediate risk. Otherwise humans are nothing other than creatures persuing comfort and economic survival. We have been taught the Capitalism model. This is what we understand. Nothing else.

I feel their pain and despair. However, the best way to solve a problem is not to give up. Yet, this is what you do when you can't imagine a solution to the problem. The solution does exist, however. It also is a solution which solves many other problems and increases local resiliency and local ecology all while sequestering a lot of carbon. If you are curious what the solution is. Read o. Plants take carbon dioxide out of the air as they grow. In fact, the only thing left from a tree after you burn it, is the part that came from the ground. All the other atoms came from the air. Eventually that carbon goes into and builds soil because plants feed the microbes around their roots with as much as half of their photosynthetic CO2 sequestration. It's easy to turn degraded land that has almost no carbon left into fertile land that has tens of thousands of pounds of carbon in the soil per acre, in as little as 10 years. Most industrial farmland is denuded and has almost no carbon left in the soil. This is due to years of tillage, chemical applications, and monocropping. Many areas of degraded and desertified land has been regreened using landscape designs that mimic and actually accelerate natural growth. Aside from sequestering lots of CO2 living growing soil that produces more food per square foot of farmland than industrial chemiculture is already in operation. If only 30% of degraded farmlands and deserts were regreened and the plants sequestered only two pounds of carbon per square foot, that would be enough for society to go to net zero. (I can show you the calculations) We could go to net zero by working with nature; we will never be able to do it by fighting nature. Resigned environmental professional here. Stop burying yourselves in this climate change issue. And worrying about achieving political/policy change is ridiculously naive. Why is nobody paying attention to the facts????? They are delusional..... Emissions will continue to rise beyond 2030 just looking at the oil and gas wells that will be added by then... Please study the facts.... $ 200 billion dollar of new gas and oil exploration is already secured..... How did humanity become fact resistant? Without reducing emissions no other solution can do much. The one and only thing that needs to be discussed is the phase out of fossil fuels....

I do find it telling that the oil industry lobbyists advocate for COP to be ended. Leaving it in the hands of individuals is never the answer. Collective action is all that works. That has always been the prime strategy of the oil industry and linked industries like plastic, to externalize costs. Putting the responsibility on individuals only leaves things open for them to do whatever they want, by buying governments. From local level to national - The right approach is to empower representatives that are willing to take the right actions. Who will not let themselves be bought by industry.

Really Jane, we need to make wise choices before it to late….hell wise or not we have made the choice…and doing nothing is it… we aren’t even going to consider other path… COP wasn’t a failure, it did exactly what it was setup to do…each country got the make the same unrealistic goal as the big boys do…that way no one’s to blame… The car is off the cliff and the ground is coming up fast…and we still have a large % of the population in America that are arguing there is no cliff. At this point the best a person can do is come to terms with the reality that we have left future generations a life of pain.

I have had the pleasure of walking lands that have been under restoration for about 30 years. Its not to late to save humanity. Things are not more important that air, water, food.
