I've been using similar methodology as part of my own process, as I've got friends in Moscow who keep coming back to me to ask if this image/article is real, or that one is real. They have no idea how to tell what is true or not true. Unfortunately, they're not highly technical, and it seems like getting them on a VPN is a bit of a struggle, but if I could, they could as easily follow this method for themselves and their neighbors. That said, knowing this is the same method that DW News uses is helpful, in that it is a good way of confirming how they themselves verify their data for accuracy, and it shows they're a reliable news source for people inside Russia, if they can be reached.

Thank you for this video, DW. Fact checking photos is interesting. There are lots of modified photos on Insta. Very often one can see distorted lines right away without even using tools. But having tools is even better. I use reverse image search from time to time. ❤

No, they rely on their sources to do that for them. Industries in places like the UK have regulations to ensure fact-checking so TV can be trusted. Industries in places like Russia have the opposite sort of system. Facts must be removed before broadcast. Then you have the wild west of news influencers, they are open and honest about their bias (usually) and at that they will speculate and pontificate far more often. I wonder what it would be that people truly prefer most. Like for example Russia, wouldn't you rather not know that your country is doing awful things and go about your life stress free from guilt of what your children are doing in places like Bucha and Mariupol. Knowing these things would make them angry and resentful. Putin surely couldn't do that to them, right?

@@Frederik_uk Fewer and fewer people watch TV at all or get their news from edited media. Many see something on Facebook and then simply believe it. The first step here would be to make them aware of the issue in the first place.

The range of humanity in the comments here on this one- peeked one of my autistic sensibilities, a nuance of a special interest is how i describe it. A sorta analytical hyperfocus- so - this is what my brain saw: From surface glances, a snap judgment here or there, nationalism, a particular bias, support, additional information, and analysis. To this point in the comments humanity has a "fear" problem a trust and openness is lacking. No human in these comments is without fear on some level. I offer this with love. ❤️

There is a sattelite photo of bodies in the street at Bucha, labelled March 19th, but there were no bodies in the street until April 2nd, according to an India Today reporter named Rajesh Pawar, who was working there at the time. In the interests of fact checking, why not check this widely publicised "sattelite photo" to see if the date has been manipulated? It also doesn't make sense that bodies have been left lying in the street for at least two weeks, obstructing traffic. Was the weather good enough on the 19th for a clear photo?

Also since then CCTV video footage has emerged that corroborates the allegations. So, where does Rajesh Pawar's evidence come from?
