Taika is a great film maker, one of the best of his generation. He made one meh film (love and thunder) and everyone’s forgotten his near perfect discography thus far.

While Love and Thunder wasn’t great by any means, I will maintain that it at least made Jane Foster much more interesting/likeable than she was in any of the other movies.

Ragnarok being the way it was a necessary thing after Thor 2 was the way it was. Only for one movie though, the tone was good with one movie that made us really like a Thor movie and it needed something not that mostly for Love and Thunder.

The reason he pissed me off so much in writing thor love and thunder is how he adapted the comics of Jane foster god of thunder and the god bomb story line that gor is from. They’re both amazing stories but clash very badly together because their messages overlap in a weird way. In god bomb thor has to realize he’s not fulfilling his duty as a god to those who worship him. At the same time gor takes an extremist way of destroying religions and culture that worship gods that while his brings up a good point, his extreme ways harm good gods who didn’t deserve his wrath. Nothing shows this the most than when he re created his wife and son and his wife calls him her god for him to then lash out and kill her. The idea of many gods is for mortals to put their faith into something gor is taking that from them. Meanwhile janes story has to do with learning the weight that comes with being a god and the trails she meet to prove to those who see her as a false thor that being a god means more than striking fear in your worshippers but being in their good graces. Instead at the end we got a goat screaming crappy rom com with a fat Zeus talking about sex and for kidnapping kids.

Love and Thunder wasn't great, though all of Waititi's other films and tv episodes were fantastic. Boy and What We Do in the Shadows are both among my favourite movies. I still enjoyed Love and Thunder more than any of the Avengers movies, despite its shortcomings. Side note: I like that Love and Thunder had Maori gods, but I hated that the flying ship was a waka instead of a longship.

You know he is a decent director when he can make films with such god awful scripts into decently entertaining movies. I’m not a very big fan of most of the Marvel movies to be honest, especially with how terribly bland and poorly written I find most Marvel movies. The best parts of Marvel movies for me are the well directed and paced action sequences, along with the little moments of humour, and thank god for that! Damn, the dialog and overall story/scripts are often just bloody awful in my opinion. The directors pure talent really makes all the difference for most Marvel movies, because if most Marvel films relied on their writing as their main selling point and not the direction and editing, oh man would they be impossible for me to watch! Knowing now that the refreshing humourous moments were improvised just shows how talented Chris is as an actor, and he really injected some fun dialog into a bland and poorly written scripts. Both Taika and Chris saved many Marvel movies from their absolutely awful to middling stories/scripts, which were often full of the most stilted dialog. The moments of natural and genuinely well timed humour truly saved/distracted from the frequently awful and nonsensical writing of most Marvel movies…It also hasn’t helped that we have had a nonstop barrage of otherwise forgettable Marvel films… Disney sure cares more about milking the Marvel universe for every penny that they can over making quality movies… If it wasn’t for a genuinely skilled director, and some fantastic improvised humour by actors like Chris, most Marvel movies would be completely unwatchable if they had to truly rely on their stories & dialog for their success… And yes I do realize Marvel movies are only supposed to be simple, cheap, and fun popcorn entertainment. But damn, for me personally Marvel films are only tolerable, and sometimes moderately enjoyable for what they are, because of just how well executed everything other than their story and dialog is. But maybe I’m the odd one out here, and others completely disagree with my take on most Marvel movies…

Love and Thunder might be better than Ragnarok for me. Characters get to be just as badass, but the film feels a bit less standard, a bit less safe, a bit more "special" in every aspect. But it is a matte of taste, both are amazing achievements. Love that rock and comics spirit and Waititi touches!
