Being a fine actor means you’re good at pretending, at playing someone else. In real life, if you behave in this way, it’s regarded as being superficial, insincere. It’s a very strange career and in Hollywood especially, you mix with people who have very strange and superficial values, and who value image. It encourages people to sell their soul for minimal fulfillment. It’s the reason people like Marlon Brando had such a love-hate relationship with acting. He regarded it as frivolous but appreciated the money.

Nicholson was probably pretty close to his sleazy persona in 5 Easy Pieces. The winner there was Karen Black's vulnerable-slash-hilarious performance. There are two lines that I remember, one going to Nicholson and the other to Black: 1.) Nicholson's --- Rayette Depesto, Karen's high-teased-hair, sweet floozie character, constantly played Tammy Wynette's Stand By Your Man, an anthem for her self-sacrificing relationship to Nicholson. When she played it one time too many, Nicholson grabbed the record player arm, scratching the needle across the record and said, "You play that thing one more time and I'm going to melt it down into hairspray!" 2.) Rayette's comment about Nicholson's character's visit to his parents leaving her out...She says (something like) "I knew you needed to go in and feel up the situation..." Nicholson didn't have to do much acting in his rotter role in that film, but Karen Black was wonderful.

I watched this, hoping I could see what other people saw in him that made them like him. Unfortunately I couldn't. To me it still seems like he played the same part over and over and over. Glad he didn't get the lead part in Close Encounters because Richard Dreyfuss was fantastic in it. Same goes for Hans Solo and the Raiders of the Lost Ark series - no one could do them better than Harrison Ford. Those fabulous parts played by the two actors I mentioned would not have been as memorable had Jack played them. The characters would have all looked insane too. So I finished this video with the same opinion I came in with. I just do not like him. Once I left a cinema way before the movie ended, feeling like I had already seen it- One flew over the Cuckoo's Nest. And thought I always liked Shelley Duvall I just couldn't bear having to watch him. I'm no one special but never a fan of his. You did a good job putting this all together. Thanks for your time.

Kirk Douglas was the first choice to play McMurphy because he owned the rights to the novel and the play. He had played the role on the stage and wanted to do it as a film but couldn't get it made. When he was too old to play the role , he either gave the rights or sold the rights to his son Micheal. That's how Michael Douglas won his first academy award as producer of One Flew Over the Cookoos Nest.

Make him sound like a narcissist, but what woman would want to be with someone who is a narcissist if they weren’t one? You don’t talk about what he put up with and that many of these women were not as talented as he is or is successful, and they probably were jealous of his luxe too, and his charisma, whether his woman like Ava Gardner or a woman like Hedy Lamarr, who slept with everybody in Hollywood and beyond. Yes it’s just that a lot of people found it’s hard to be around these people. It goes both ways it’s called jealousy. Lotta people beat up Ava Gardner, abused Hedy Lamarr, so what’s the difference to ever hear about the fact that Jack was an abuse victim? no he’s just a victim miser and he’s a womanizer. Lots of laughs takes one to no one. He’s probably been screwed over so much that he doesn’t want to be around people but that’s OK. Keep judging someone that you don’t know how but you’re not convincing me that he’s just a terrible person all these women we’re just amazing people you have a can convince me that.
