I kinda like how Snape turns to grab the Cloak in the movie. I know it wasn't intentional back in the day of the release, but I like to think that Snape got harassed so badly by James in that Cloak, to the point that years later Snape has a sence that somebody invisible is behind him 😅

That sounds plausible. Personally I just assumed it had something to do with Snape being a Legilimens and he could sense a mind behind him.

Absolutely, Christmas is a magical time in it's self & the Christmas scenes have always been my favourite parts & one of the main reasons I return again & again to rewatch the movies, I only wish there was much more Christmas (& winter time) content in all of the films. At 60 years of age I've been a huge fan of the magical fantasy genre since first reading The Hobbit as a young child & I can return to such movies like HP at any time but the Christmas scenes are definitely a huge highlight for me personally.

Yeah Ron is his own character in the books, not just Harry's best mate, there are many classes the two dont even share together in the books later on in the hogwarts grades, but the movies dont even cover them, they only show the trio together always, even though in the books they were off doing their own things all the time

It occurred to me that Harry ignores good advice from Ron on multiple occasions. The Chamber of Secrets might have been completely different if Harry had listened to Ron and not touched the diary. One might watch the movies and think that Ron seeing himself as Quidditch Captain and Head Boy as his hearts greatest desire is really very shallow, but in the book Dumbledore explains how it's because Ron is almost always the last thought of member of the Weasleys, every other member has something they've achieved, either being really popular, getting excellent grades, going on to be rather important of influential in some capacity, while he gets all the hand-me-downs, and who's greatest achievement so far is to be friends with someone else who also meets those criteria, this feeling of inadequacy and feeling of being the least appreciated member of the family comes back up in multiple books to be really important, it's a large part of why Ron stops talking to Harry for a while in Goblet of Fire, it's referenced in Deathly Hallows with the locket scene, and those are just the obvious ones. What he saw in the mirror was himself being recognized as being important, not ignored, not forgotten, to be successful.

It's so sad because if Harry sees all his family, it's mean that they are all dead coincided with what Dumbledore saying at the beginning of the movie that the Dursley's are his only family left. People need to understand that movies don't have the luxury of time that books do, with film simplicity is key. If you never read the book the movie still makes perfect sense and tells a great story all it's own. Perfect adaptation for a movie will never happen, so filmmakers just make the best movies they can.

That and it comes down to the screenwriter/director being ill suited for the job. Kloves deliberately destroyed Ron's character in favor of his idealized version of Hermione. That was just the first film, As the series went on, they started inserting things that weren't even in the books. HBP, why follow the book when they could write some awful story about teenage romance. TDH were the only films that wre better than the books.

@@MavenWalsh I disagree on one point. The final battle in the films is a total let down. The books Final Battle was epic and Cinematic. I have a hot take: I think that people who say “books are better than the movies” can’t read. To clarify, I’m not saying that they misread the books, but rather, they misread the movies. Movies convey information in different ways, and I find a lot of people who prefer books tend to just not be wired to think about information conveyed visually. They don’t necessarily pay attention to the cuts between scenes, or the framing, blocking, leading lines, etc. It’s easy to say “oh, the book had this, the movie didn’t have this”, but it’s a different medium with different time constraints, and often a lot of what gets cut is usually conveyed at least conceptually or by feeling in some other scene. It’s also worth noting that not all detail is equal, and time is valuable. To me a piece of media that conveys 80% of the idea in 3 hours can be a superior experience to a piece of media that conveys 99% in 40. The pacing and density of the thing is also quite impactful to the purity of the experience, and it does change how one experiences that media for the first time in a dramatic way, I feel.
@ronaldsmith6829
@ronaldsmith6829 Ай бұрын
@@novantha1 I agree. However I don't agree too!😆 The very reason I agree is why movies by their nature are much inferior to the book because of the lack of details. Like for instance, not including anything about Hermionie's attempts at raising money to help House Elves. And the fact it was explained, very patiently, to her that you can't 'help' someone who doesn't want to be helped! I found Peeves thoroughly obnoxious and understand why they axed him. However, it also reduced the story considerably to do so. Hence you are absolutely right and at the same time illustrate my point that Movies are an very much inferior medium to tell a story.

I watched the first three movies before reading any of the books. It was a huge plus because, the books completed the movies, I already knew how to pronounce some of the more uncommon names, and the first three movies still are in no way a let down from the books. From the fourth movie on however…I’ve got a few *DISCREPANCIES!*. ~ Dumbledore said calmly. Honestly, THAT, they had zero footage regarding the quidditch tournament, and during the final battle they weren’t surrounded by an audience for Harry to reveal whose side Snape had truly been on the whole time; I’m happy with the movies. I feel like a lot of people are happiest with the first two and the last two movies. The first two (I felt) were certainly the most accurate to the books (for what time allows for regarding film vs. book). The last two movies, I feel like they realized they had to break up into two parts because they had left so much out of preceding films that was actually important after all. So to make everything make sense, they were forced to make the DH two movies. Of the cut scenes from ALL the movies, the only one that truly bothers me was the one where Draco throws Harry his wand. They *really* should have left that one in.
@ForeverDegenerate
@ForeverDegenerate Ай бұрын
No it really wouldn't have. I'm glad they removed that scene. People who argue FOR Draco tossing Harry his wand are idiots. Harry ALREADY HAD A WAND ON HIM. Why would he need another one?! Voldemort never took Harry's Wand because that's how arrogant and cocky and sure of himself he was. He believed Narcissa at face value when she "confirmed" Harry's death. So Voldemort, in his arrogance, didn't see a need to disarm a corpse. Draco tossing Harry his wand is pointless. It's like, "Ok great. Now I have two of Draco's Wands.... the Hell am I supposed to do with this?!" It speaks to Voldemort's character and solidifies who he really was that Harry never needed another wand to defend himself because Voldemort neglected to take the Wand on him. Also, Harry never used his wand against Voldemort so Voldemort might not have even known Harry had a wand on him. Hell, he might have just assumed Harry showed up with no wand. Still shows his character that he didn't bother to search the body. If they REALLY wanted to give Draco some redemption, they should have changed his character arc completely and had him stay with the school instead of leave with his parents. Having Draco tell Voldemort off when he sees Harry's lifeless corpse is far better redemption than having him toss Harry a wand he doesn't need, disarming himself in the middle of a war in the process. Congratulations, your Mother is now the sole line of defense for your family and Harry now has two wands. You have accomplished nothing.

Although most changes in the movies are to simplify filming to save time & not overuse costly computerized special effects, I think they could've & should've shown the others in the mirror too instead of just his parents. Yes the strongest part of his longing is for the parents, but it would show that even at that age he's aware that having a larger extended family including the elder generations typically gives people even greater happiness through more people to love, more shared experiences, & greater security (because when a hard time hits 1 member/couple then the rest of the family helps them through it in a "pay it forward" kind of way). He could've had younger siblings, he could've had grandparents to pass on wisdom & "uncles" (dad's best friends) & maybe even his mom would've after a bit (since they both had boys close in age) found a way to use common ground to reconcile with her sister & Harry could've had a good relationship with Dudley from much younger. He already knew that to most people "family" is a greater experience than just having parents. Showing that he realized he was missing out on a lot of things rather than just a few makes the emotional impact of the scene stronger.
@michelleweintraub945
@michelleweintraub945 4 ай бұрын
Movies sometimes have to simplify things because they don’t have the time needed to create deeper emotional content. A writer is able to create deeper content because they can make a book as long as they want and also it’s easier to put things in words than to create a scene in a movie. I think the movies were adapted very well, I also have the advantage of seeing the movies first and reading the books second. But even after reading the books, I still think the movies were done very well. There are even things that I like better in the movies and then there are things that I feel that they should have kept it the way it was in the book. In the end, it is a wonderful story that is timeless.

Ron was absolutely done dirty in the films. Ron is the only one in the trio born into the magical world. That completely shifts his perspective from the other 2 as he thinks in a "magic first" way. He also has all the knowledge a magic born would have, that you wouldn't learn at school, especially early on. Knowledge of just how things are in their world, childhood tales, intuition about magic and its risks, especially with wisdom from his father. He comes from one of the sacred 28 families, and has a large family working in many interesting areas, with many older brothers. That knowledge and perspective is key throughout the books. Hermione might be the book smart one, but she isn't born of that world.

Those rare moments come when it would be too much for Hermione to know literally everything, but quite normal for a pure blood wizard living with his family. Too bad the Harry Potter Characters don’t know what the readers and viewers know. To me what makes the Harry Potter books and movies sad: The characters are trapped in an endless loop. Doomed to re peat the story over and over again from start to end. With no memories of what is going to happen to them. Whenever someone reads the books and watches the movies. When the characters are not being use they are trapped in a dark, endless, void waiting to be used by someone.

Hey, there is so much incorporated into the books, you could never film it all. The cutting was done wisely. If you or the kids want to know more after seeing the film, READ! They are wonderful.

Sometimes you have to read a book multiple times to fully catch all the interesting bits. Our minds skim the text because there's so much to take in. Now I'm going to go back to the first one to look for the talking chess pieces!

@@janelleramler6440 there is more than that. The American version of the books changes words and spelling. Plus some phrases are Americanised. But otherwise the story is exactly the same just more American in tone

@ oh that’s weird. I didn’t know that. I read the philosopher’s stone and was under the impression that was the only change.

@@janelleramler6440 like for example a cricket bat becomes a baseball bat. A jumper a sweater. Woollen vs woolen Towards vs toward. Realize vs realise. Or how in the uk version of the first book during a moment at Hagrids, he gives the trio rock cakes to eat whereas in the American version of that moment he gives them rock cakes and a description of what they are is added but only in the American one. So that’s really the gist of things.

the books. no questions asked. unless the original work was a complete mess, adapting from a book/movie/theater/... to any other is guaranteed to drop quality. there's a handful exceptions due to mismatching. jurasic park being a great example since it's an action story that swaps from book to movie and movies are the best to show intense action. but harry potter is a story that was made for books. you can't adapt it to movies without a loss of quality. my hope is in the show since it's not as limited in duration so it can take it slow when needed. but I'm almost sure the books will still be the best.
