@TheIpod321 If you break down both terms to their prime factors 3_n_cubed can be written as 3 x n x n x n and 9_n can be written as 3 x 3 x n. The HCF of both terms is 3 x n so that's why I factored that outside the brackets. Then what's left is what stays inside the brackets: In this case n x n (n_squared) + 3 Does that make sense?

For question 4, 16x^3 - 4x^2 should be 4x(4x^2 - x) not 4x(4x^2 - 1), because that would expand to 16x^3 - 4x, not 4x^2. I'm confused :P Edit: Oh, you had 4x^2 on the outside of the bracket; on the question above you put the powers on the inside, why?
