I had a 70 Monte Carlo in 78. I miss it still. The 70 had round turn signals in the bumper, 71 had long flat in bumper and 72 had them in the grill. All beautiful

I remember when they released those animals from Detroit in 1970. I was not of driving age at the time but I knew it was another bad ass Chevy making the scene. In H.S. a friend used to drive his momma SS Monte Carlo to school😁. At lunch we wold go to McDonalds and he would be burning rubber for 20 feet just stomping on it. That car also drove as good as it looked. Very comfortable riding car. It was black with vinyl top like this, same interior with the rally wheels but his was an automatic.

I'm about you're age & in his school in 74,a senior had a deuce cpe & a 70,454 Monte triple black. What a combo for an 18 yr old. I was working & making pmts on a 73 Trans Am. Those were the days. I'd love to have that Monte..

What the guy means is bench seat is very rare with the 4speed. I know i drove one to high school in bradenton florida. We had so much fun in that car. It had a 350 with 300hp.

I had a '71 402 4 speed Monte. 1 of only 80 optioned that way in '71. I have a loaded '70 SS454 now that I've restored. The First Generation Monte Carlo Club website is an excellent resource.

A 4 speed could only be ordered and received in '70 and '71. The SS454 wasn't available with a 4 speed, but all of the other available engines could be ordered with a 4 speed. I bought my second '71 402, 4 speed a month ago.

Yes, the Vigi-lite light monitoring system was an option available in 1970. The indicators on the fenders and in the package tray had fiber optic cable from them to the headlights, brake lights/turn signals so the driver could see all working. The package tray indicator was centered so the driver could see it in the rear view mirror. The factory installed 4 speeds were M20.

1st gen Monte Carlos never had those chrome signal indicators on the front bumpers. And the rally wheels vinal top and bench seats don’t make it rare. Only thing is that 4 speed. And if it isn’t in the vin and build sheets that’s just a nicely restored resto mod. Probably not worth as much as what they were selling it for. Nice car ! I would love to have it, but not for as much as they were probably pushing.

This car doesn't have signal indicators on the bumper. It has the vigi-lite option that has indicators on top of the fenders, and for Monte Carlos, they were an available option only for 1970. The option also includes an indicator that mounts on the package tray that can be viewed with the rear view mirror. The VIN for a '70 Monte Carlo gives no indication of what transmission the car was equipped with. That started in '72, but no 4 speeds were available after '71 in a first gen Monte.

The partial VIN on the transmission and the block is the way to verify if the engine and transmission match the car.

The bench seat is not rare. The bench seat is much more common than the bucket seats.

From everything I just watched.they didn't make a 4 speed Monte carlo.unles as an example a dealership may have installed it for a customer.but it says general motors never made one..

What did you just watch? Chevrolet production records show there were 1428 4 speed Montes built for '70 and 349 built for '71. Mine is a '71 4 speed with matching numbers engine and transmission, the protect-o-plate, and the factory build sheet. 1 of 80 for '71 with a 402. 269 '71s had a 350.

@@chriskelly509 Montes for '70 and '71 were definitely factory built with 4 speeds. I've had one and I now have an SS454. My '70 and '71 dealer brochures show the 4 speed option availability.

Not true at all. '72 was the first year you couldn't get a 4 speed in a Monte. I had a factory built '71 402 4 speed. You could get a 4 speed in '70 and '71 with any engine offered, except the 454.

Correct! No Straight 6 bever available the Monte. Smallest engine was the 350. But, all could have a 4 speed, except the SS. All 1970-1972 SS Monte's were LS-5. Never LS-6.
