@dredragon2707 All jokes aside,I was ironic.I don't have an iMACK,for MANY reasons. This one is only ONE of them. The irony is,you have to send a whole machine to the repair shop,just to do a simple reset... It's actually sad,and it just blows my mind.

On macOS ventura and newer: Go to settings and go to general Select reset and select erase On macOS Monterey and macOS Big Sur I forgot :/

The one thing that is better to me on mac than windows is simply being able to just reset at will without any external hardware needed

Windows has actually had this for over a decade, and not all macs can do this, once they get too old they can have issues connecting to apple servers for recovery, due to certificate expiry, unlike windows machines which can recover on their own. Macs can't recover without internet otherwise you have to use a usb boot key and set back their clocks.

someone gave me an old 8,1 iMac with Elementary Linux on it. I had a better Linux machine and wanted something with MacOS, so i was able to burn SNow Leopard onto a USB then installed it and upgraded it to El Capitan, then found the DosDude1 patcher to install Mojave on it after that. Its older but suits my needs. Old Macs can still bang.

What if computer has password that I don’t kno, can I still factory re set and then use the computer? I work in property management and someone left there computer In unit and never came to get it, that’s why there is a password on it.

yes you can factory format it make sure it isn't a M series Macs such as M1 - M3

@@baddluck1725 shut down your mac then press and hold the power button until you see an options menu click the options then it may boot you into recovery make sure they removed it from their icloud for an intel series mac shut down your mac then press the power button and the command + R this should boot you into recovery then disk utility should format your mac and reinstall macos will reinstall macos like new

Maybe you have an Apple Silicon Mac. In those you need to shutdown the machine and turn on holding down the power button until Options appear on screen

Pretty sure Apple is closing the servers for older OSs. You'll have to download it elsewhere to reinstall it.

After you erase it, you need to restart computer and hold down command R again to get back to the screen to reinstall OS
