You do not have to remove the trim screws and remove front plate Just slide the upper top cover off to access button and battery pack.

One change: after pressing the center round button, reinserting the battery pack, and waiting 30 seconds, as soon as the tone and light flashes, let go and press the button again immediately.

Why did you remove the entire case? All you had to do was remove/slide up the plastic cover and the program button was accessible. Removing all the side screws is a pain which is not necesssary.
