I have a shit load covering my backyard. Last year I tried to eradicate them but that was a losing battle, which I’m glad I lost cause I found out pollinators love em and they’re native to Florida. Gotta do anything to help the bees!

I'm having a trouble finding nutritional info specific to the ornamental varieties of Portulaca oleracea - I see plenty written on the nutritional content of wild purslane (the weed), Golden Purslane and Green Purslane, but not much info on the ornamentals. Are they all equally edible and equally nutritious?

I recommend using a blossom booster fertilizer. That would be a formula with high phosphorus, which is the middle number in the ratio of three.

@EarthWorksJax2 жыл бұрын
Hey Silvia, same issues here. Too much water and not enough sun aren't optimum conditions. While we think it nice to have a drought tolerant hanging basket if they can't get enough sun and are then water logged we are setting up conditions for failure.

Closing at night is normal. The hotter the days the longer the flowers will be open, which helps the plant reduce internal temperature.

We have to also figure in available light energy that varies with day length between the Winter & Summer Solstice as with the reduced energy collection of solar panels on overcast and rainy days. The actual amount of light and heat they receive, which varies daily will impact how long the purslane bloom is open. Of course, other environmental conditions and plant nutrition are factors to consider.
@sappir262 жыл бұрын
Yes. This is normal. The flowers close up at night and open again in the morning.
