I grew up in Santa Rosa.until 7 years ago. Being a hot rodder at heart I owned a bunch of trifive Chevies and other muscle cars. Still own the 56 Chevy 150 utility sedan that delivered phone books for Pacific Bell Telephone...purchased it from the shop that seviced it since new and used it as a shop car..I acquired it from them in 1981 and it now resides in my garage. I drive it to local car shows in Las Vegas where I retired..left the back seat delete and fixed quarter glass.

I graduated from Petaluma High many, many decades ago! I remember at least one "Memorial Parade" on Petaluma Boulevard, I think it might have been included in the "Butter & Eggs" Parade. One of the women I worked with about 10 years later told us about being asked to put her '55 T-Bird in the movie as a "filler." Suzanne Somers was driving the white '57 but when they saw my friend's '55 they wanted it in there also. They didn't get much money for but just being involved was enough for her. That was a big deal in a little town.

If you look close at the 55 used for the roll over in American Graffiti. It is a single exhaust small block. Nothing special about it. Not too sure they used any Two Lane Blacktop car for the roll over. Definitely for the hero Falfa car though. I like American Graffiti the very first time seeing it at the theater. Classic Americana of days gone by. Cruising and stoplight to stoplight action. There will never be a time like that again in America. And we are sadder for it.

If you check on the facts about "American Graffiti", you'll find that the 427 stunt car wouldn't flip over like they wanted, so a used 55 was sourced for that filming.

There was no 427 powered stunt car , that car and the camera car had the LS-6 ! 454 engines , with a single four barrel intake . The race car had the 427 L-88 tunnel ram equipped engine in it . Why put a 450 hp engine in your race car , and then put the engine that makes over 550 hp in the stunt car ? Does that really make any sense to you ?

@buzzwaldron6195 sorry no , some time back , a video was made that got a lot of the details wrong . Unfortunatly , most videos since than quote that wrong infomation .

The hero car has re emerged if it is in fact authentic, and just saw a video on it. It did have a 454 in it and that is also how it is identified in the movie. Visually they are pretty much indistinguishable since a 454 is just a stroked 427. A 454 can make more power than 427.
@bobbrinkerhoff359217 күн бұрын
@SSK-27 the LS6 version of the 454 was rated as being more powerful than a 427 , however the LS6 made 450hp , the 427 L88 engine which is the actual engine that Richard Ruth put in the " hero car " was rated by Chevrolet at 430 hp , yet dyno tests have shown thatvthey made 550 hp, and this was before the engine got the Wieand tunnel ram , with a pair of 660 Holleys on it . Believing the script from a movie , will get you into trouble every time . I read about the three cars in Car Craft Magazine , before the movie came out .
