Aussie here. I had no idea area is millions of square kilometres either. Our highest mountain- Mt Kosciuszko (coz-ee-os-ko) is part of the snowy mountain ranges. Very pretty part of the country. The mountain is called Tar-gan-gil by the local aboriginal custodians.

fun fact: the mountain Kosciuszko was named because an polish guy named it (Kościuszko was a man who tried to make poland stop russia, austria and prussia from dividing us (Poland) and built many forts in the USA during the independence day)

Australian here! The pronuncication of Mt Kosciuzcko absolutely killed me (in a good way). It reminded me of when I used to work in a pub and people from other countries would order a pint of Kosciuzcko beer (named after the mountain) and pronounced it in such interesting ways that sometimes I couldn't even tell what they were referring to. It's pronounced like "Cozzie-aus-co" by the way. And regarding languages -- there's hundreds of Indigenous languages across the country but none of them are regarded as "official" languages by the government, and they aren't really taught in schools or anything. Sadly, most Australians probably can't even name more than one or two Indigenous languages, and are unlikely to recognise more than a few words.

Poland here :) I wonder if any Australian can recognize name of the mountain if any Polish person said it. It is the name of the polish hero and the real pronunciation is different, because even leters are different. It is Kościuszko.
