Almost 30 years, the A320 family is still the only single-aisle aircraft series that I like, and still trying my best to fly with when I have to fly single-aisle planes. It's obviously much spacious in the cabin due to its wider fuselage and much properly positioned windows than the cramped 737.

Boeing makes some pretty decent planes (well, the 777 and 787, really), but Airbus makes better ones... Particularly when it comes to safety Airbus has a much better record, and the individual comparison between the A320 and 737 comes out particularly shockingly in Airbus' favour.

Speaking of Boeing, I do think it's hilarious that American Airlines is now the largest operator of A320s in the world thanks to the aircraft they inherited from US Airways, even though American Airlines prior to the merger was one of the staunchest pro-Boeing airlines in the world...
@281CubicInchesOfFreedom7 жыл бұрын
Robert Faber It is strange that previously all-Boeing airlines are starting to go with Airbus. Another example is Delta Airlines before the NWA merger. DAL was primarily all McDonnell Douglas and Boeing with some L-1011s here and there. They got their current Airbus planes from NWA. I guess they liked them and are replacing them with the A350.
@rjfaber19917 жыл бұрын
+Tuna Sandwiches - Yes indeed, though NorthWest itself of course only started switching to Airbus very late in its existence as well. I do remember that on Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (which is reasonably close to where I live, and was always NWA's European hub) the only McDonnell Douglas planes you could still see in the early '00s were MD11s from NorthWest. As for the A350, I'm not that surprised they're going for that. If you're a large enough airline to have money to invest in new airplanes (and Delta certainly is that), then this new generation of ultra-fuel-efficient carbon fibre planes are just locking out the competition. At the bottom end you'd still go for an A320neo or 737 MAX, because economies of scale have just made those two planes so incredibly cheap, and at the top end, the 747 and A380 still exist in little bubbles of their own with no real competition, but in between them, the 787 Dreamliner and A350XWB have just moved the game on so much that it's difficult to argue for even the most fervent pro-Boeing airlines to still buy a 777. Airbus stands slightly more of a chance of still selling significant numbers of A330neos because of the improvements it has over the regular A330, but sales figures don't lie, the 787 Dreamliner is clearing up in that segment of the market as well. It'll be interesting to see which of the two will first come out with a carbon fibre plane in the A320/737 range, because that could really shake up the market.

@rjfaber19917 жыл бұрын
+bumbaukkis3 - Having more power sounds fantastic, but don't forget it also means you have more responsibility... Plus, the whole thing has been used way too often by Boeing to simply blame pilot error for accidents that would have been perfectly preventable if the plane itself had also been allowed to do some thinking of its own.

CLM Almost all air crashes (and road crashes) are caused by human error. Often this is due to misunderstanding our own senses, or focusing our thoughts in one area, and ignoring other important details. Automation of even one function drastically reduces the thought process required.... Try it with cruise control in your car. It's far easier to concentrate on the surroundings when you no longer have to warry about holding a steady speed manually.
@clemsweety7 жыл бұрын

The A318 is not exactly identical in its dimension. Airbus had to enlarge the vertical stabilizer in order to compensate the much shorter fuselage.
@flywithcaptainjoe7 жыл бұрын
I agree, and I said basically the same ;)
@laredobenjamin74387 жыл бұрын
Captain Joe It was just to precise. I love your channel because I fond of aircrafts and I achieve to understand almost all you say in your videos which allow me to improve oral comprehension in english !
@laredobenjamin74387 жыл бұрын
Captain Joe Yes I realize my comment was not written the best way. I should have written that "in the A318, contrary to other A320 family's members, not just the fuselage lenght was modified but also the size of the vertical stabilizer".

Captain Joe Also, I had a question for you. Is the quality of radio sound good? It is sometimes difficult to understand ATC ? Thank you for your answer and I wish you a good flight ! ✈

Dein Englisch is um so viel besser als das bei den Videos in denen Lufthansa Piloten fliegen.. das find ich große Klasse.. :D

I am REALLY sorry to say that, but I prefer Boeing's jets, as flying them is waaaay more interesting! #TeamBoeing

Thank you Captain Joe for passing on your knowledges. I like that you spend time on teaching us. You should become a flight instructor.

You say England, but show a nap of Great Britain? Come on CJ, there is a difference ;-)

The Broughton factory is actually in Wales too.

Richard Featherstone, thats what i was reffering to. sorry if i implied it was just England

In German usually we use the word England for the whole UK. (The same, as many languages use Allemania for Germany, and Allemania is also only a part of Germany.) And Captain Joe is a German.
@maxsteele207 жыл бұрын
I thought the wings were made in Wales?
@craigykart7 жыл бұрын
MrWurschtl that's offensive. England isn't the UK any more than Bavaria is Germany. Look at a map.

As far as I know, the A318 is the only family member that does not have the option for container loading for the lower deck cargo holds. It can only be bulk loaded. As you explained 319, 320 and 321 have this option and so far I have never noticed one that as not loaded with containers when I was a passenger on one. (I guess in the trade-off of the additional weight vs. the shorter turnarounds the shorter turnarounds win.)

Don't listen to these people Captain Joe. To me, you are a captain and you're living a better life than these good-for-nothing trolls. I love your videos, and so do many others. Keep doing what you're doing. You are a great inspiration, especially to student pilots like me... Thank you so much for your efforts in your presentations. I've learned so much from them.

Captain Joe, i prefer Airbus over Boeing, but you cant beat the looks of the 737-800, especially the front section and the winglets. That detail on the turbine fuselage not being completely round at the front... Just love it. Still, Airbus rules! Best aviation channel on KZbin. Congrats!!!

The 320 also has the access door for hold 5. (The hold up the tail). It's rarely ever used except from checking the hold when theres visibly no cargo in holds 3 and 4 as the net is opaque. It's loaded through the main cargo door like a normal hold.
