I found work almost immediately but it didn't pay all that great and I wanted to build some savings rather than live check to check. Put all my things in storage and still had my pet.. No regrets and not ashamed of doing that which was 34 years ago. Yes we were called the "working homeless" but I didn't feel homeless at all. On the weekends we'd go to the campground and stay there until late Sunday.

I think a lot of this is exaggerated. For example if she has to eat via feeding tube, why would she get food from the trash. It sounds like she has been close with family members & she herself is intelligent and I'm sure that along with family support has navigated the system to get medical, social security and possibly food stamps. She appears to live simply but that doesn't make her homeless.

She was probably showing them something she saw or found.🙄 The very worst part of her life was losing her dad, mom, and sister each a year apart! I can’t even imagine the grief. Otherwise, she looks good! She’s 71, looks like she’s never done drugs, and seems happy. Good for her!

My heart breaks into a million pieces to see Susan as she is now. I loved her growing up as a boy of 11 watching EIE, always wanted to meet her in person and just sing praises to her not only because of her wholesome beauty, but because of her. Simply put, HER. I hated knowing the issues she had going on, but Susan, even though we are 10 years apart in age (I 61 and you 71), I will still always LOVE YOU in every piece of my heart. Yeah, they got that part totally wrong. I remember seeing her on that dumpster in the past in other videos and I believe she was gathering items for art projects, or for other uses. She wasn't looking for any food there. Although some people do dumpster dive for food and end up getting good food from them, especially if they're behind stores or restaurants.

Without knowing what kind of a mother she was, I don't think we can judge her daughter. Maybe Susan was a substance abuser, a physical abuser or worse. My mother was emotionally and physically abusive. Nobody ever knew because her facade was so perfect. I left home at 18, went to college and grad school, married well, worked hard and paid all my mother's assisted living bills for 5 years. I never visited, but because I could afford it, I took care of her. That completed my obligation to her as my mother. If Susans daughter cannot afford to do the same, it isn't her fault. Please don't judge without knowing their history.

She definitely received residual checks for Eight is Enough. I worked in Accounts Payable at Lorimar in the mid-1980s. The Residual Dept. was next to our department (in one big room) Ms. Richardson was one of only two actors who came to the dept. to pick up their residual checks. The other one being Tony Curtis. (he only came one time - that I know of)

For decades actors of TV shows even the well known ones never received any royalty checks for their work. And you know they still bring in money from syndication as channels such as TV Land and others that air old shows aired it (I think MeTV airs it now or at least it did at one time)

Well they sort of do. The Motion Picture and Television Fund has a retirement community in the Woodland Hills neighborhood of LA which cares for aging industry professionals (actors and behind the scenes), funded by charitable donations and industry fundraisers. It has residences, a hospital, and other amenities including a relatively new Aquatic Center funded by Jodie Foster. Problem is I think to be admitted one must have worked steadily for about 20 years or so, therefore I don’t know if someone like Susan would be eligible. There’s also the Actor’s Fund (recently renamed The Entertainment Community Fund) which provides relief services for industry professionals in need (and a lot of them did during the pandemic). Susan’s last credit was some time in the 90s so those services may not be available to her or perhaps she’s never sought them out.

I have been watching the old game show Password Plus over the last year and have seen most of the episodes that Susan Richardson appeared in. She was a very good player and very intelligent. Her first episodes taped just after she had her child in 1980. I'm currently watching episodes that aired in May of 1981, and she is talking about going on hiatus from Eight is Enough (it must not have been cancelled yet) to begin a music career. I was sad to see she turned to drugs, she had so much potential.

Adam Rich passed away this year? Sad. That era of TV was not kind to its child stars. I remember seeing Susan Richardson on a TV appearance and she did not seem fully in control over her faculties. She was going on about being kidnapped by North Korean agents, and being helped out financially by Dick Van Patten. Van Patten was on the panel and he seemed like a compassionate guy. Eight is Enough was an acting gig, but Van Patten must have felt some paternal instinct kick in to help her in some way.

Not really a surprise. Susan Richardson had exhibited strange behavior for many years and Adam Rich was hooked on prescription drugs for a long time.

Of all the cast Susan was my favorite but I seldom saw any of the episodes when they were new since I worked nights during those years. I saw a few in syndication but after she got pregnant and was married off in the show it wasn't the same. I don't think Susan ever lived the life of a star as Hollywood was not kind to her after Eight Is Enough went off the air. She only had 19 different acting credits with her last one being in 1989.

I chose not to watch the video as I really don't want to 'Look at Her' if she has indeed experienced hard times. What is really sad is channels that post videos about the suffering of others in the guise of entertainment.
