@@TheRagingPlatypus Yes, but I'm referring to an episode where Hawkeye is writing a letter to his father, which he is narrating. Susan...the show reminds me of the time I spent in the service (Army) in Germany, and it doesn't compare to Korea, but we were in an isolated area (not many are stationed in Frankfurt!) and if you have no car you are literally stuck just as they were in Korea. I have nothing but warm regard for the show and the wonderful cast! It's so difficult to see the bloopers they are mentioning here, that they are really not worth mentioning.

My last unit was in Camp Red Cloud, where MASH was stationed. Years after I left service the MASH unit there was disbanded, The Army band played the theme song. The absolute biggest mistake you missed was when Potter first came to the 4077, they announced it as "Arriving, September 1952, Colonel Sherman Potter, regular Army, God help us all!" But then in a later episode where they go through the entire year of 1951 ending with the Giants winning the pennant, Potter is shown at the beginning of the episode dressed as Father Time wearing a sash that said 1950. This episode also has Winchester in it throughout the entire year of 1951 and he didn't even arrive to the 4077 until after Potter did.

I have been researching M*A*S*H on Hulu. Love it so much. In one episode, a reporter was interviewing Klinger and asked him if he would like to say hello to his family at home. He says hello to his mother, among his other family. This contrasts with a much later episode where their loved ones at home plan a get together and Klinger reveals he had been hiding his service in Korea all along and they took a photo of everyone with a Ft. Dix, NJ sign in the background.

@citizenken7069
@citizenken7069 2 жыл бұрын
Mistakes like these can be found in most TV shows. As I watched the video, I was reminded of another error regarding the Colonel's horse. On the episode where they found it, Radar addressed the horse as "boy" and referred to it as "he". For some reason, the writers suddenly decided the Colonel's horse was a mare. The only other explanation is that Radar made a mistake, but since he was supposed to be a farm boy from Iowa, I think that's highly unlikely! P.S. I remember reading an interview with Alan Alda shortly before "MASH" went off the air. He acknowledged some of the medical errors from the earlier episodes - specifically, moving from one patient to another without changing gloves. By the time the show went off the air, he knew better. He said, "I would never do that now."

@Quaker 2019 True, very true. In fact I think it was at least implied he went beyond 'almost' with the nurse. Thing is he was devastated at what he had done - and cheating was definitely not something he would have done a happy song about. I don't know for sure - but I would guess the line was originally written for Hawkeye and Trapper but not used until later. Kind of like in Star Trek Generations when Chekov went to sick bay and started barking medical commands. Originally his part was written for McCoy.

The Comics were the worst errors because they could have been corrected! With exceptions, in the 70s you could still buy comics from the early 50s pretty cheaply, especially comics published by small, lesser known publishers! The producers probably only needed about a half dozen!

So other inaccuracies are when Radar was sick and Hot Lips was reading him a pen pal letter and the gal asked about two songs. The Wayward Wind by Gogi Grant and Diddy Wah Diddy by Bo Diddly. Both songs were from 1956. Way past the Korean War time. Another one was the wounded soldier telling the doctors about the broken fan belt on the chopper and the pilot had to land when it over heated and they got there 200 yards at a time. The only thing about the story is the Bell-47 helicopter had an air cooled engine. No fan. No fan belt. No over heating.

Over the years I have picked up on the mistakes in the timeline, one concerning the Mickey Mouse Club reference, the hula hoop references, and Radar's take off on John Wayne in McClintock. Also, Hawkeye was supposed to be an only child, yet in one episode he referenced a sister. In a very early episode he refrrenced serving in WWII and being called back for Korea, yet it is never mentioned again. Colonel Potter was the only one who was mentioned having served in WWI, WWII and Korea, although I think one of the nurses had said something about serving in WWII and then Korea.

I still have my first set of dog tags I received in Basic Training in 1970 at Fort Lewis. On that set I was told I had A+ blood type and was a Lutheran. For the rest of my life, as a matter of fact, I have indeed been O+ and have had 4 major surgery's on my spine the results of a small accident while working on the PD and my blood was always O+ so I guess even the US Army does make mistakes.

@@nolanboles8492 True, but, US military protocol dictates that a person is to be referred to as the last rank they held, unless you're talking about a specific time in their military background, ie George Patton will always be referred to as Gen Patton even if he spent the majority of his career as a Captain (not that he did), unless you're talking specifically about the time when he was a Captain. That’s right actually-Henry’s wife when she was in the hospital he told the operator “Mildred Blake” but she’s Lorraine later. Also, Trapper’s wife was Louise, and later Frank’s wife was too. And the continuity good with Henry’s kids was not reflected well in this video. When Henry was on the phone with his family (when he brought Nancy to the 4077 to visit), he tells Andrew “I understand your sister dropped an ice cube down your underwear-girls will do that. You mustn’t hit her with the dog.” Clearly Andrew wasn’t the baby. I thought Janie was the baby, from the baby talk he did over the phone (even if he was told he had a son). Ok, there were a lot of continuity errors. So did The Odd Couple and lots of shows. It’s rare to write a bible of who’s who, especially in the early years of a show.

When Sherman Potter said he lived in MO and later on a different writer he was from Nebraska and had a daughter later a writer said that he had a son either way I still love Mash there are mistakes in a lot of different shows that's the way it goes

You also should look at the lack of continuity between the names of the colonel's wives names. Blake refers to both " Mildred" and " Lorraine" as his wife. Potter also refers to his home being Missouri , later he slips up and says he's from Nebraska.

Love MASH-Reminded me of my time in Guam when I supported Arc light-and we lived in tents- but even in shooting programs nothing is perfect. I worked in TV for years and yes we had bloopers. By the way the 16mm movie projector shown on their movie nights came out in the 60s. But God bless all of the cast members in such a classic show. I might add a few years back my dear brother n law passed away from cancer-among the many DVDs he had- was a complete box set of all the MASH shows-which his sister let me have---what a treasure.

In an early episode Hawkeye writes a letter home and toward the end says "Give Mom a kiss for me." in a different episode he shows an overly large sweater his sister knitted him. It's later established he's an only child and his Dad is a widower.

Margaret's father dies, then comes back to life, and Col. Potter, famously from Missouri, once said he would be home in Nebraska. Henry's wife changed names, and his son can play Ravel's Bolero in his crib. But we still love the show.

A couple you missed in the episode “5 O’Clock Charlie” Frank Burns refers to Gary Cooper portraying Billy Mitchell. “The Court Martial of Billy Mitchell” was not released until 1955 which was after the Korean War. There was another episode where they tried to get the “The Moon is Blue” which was not released until hostilities ended.

Fun fact about the 5 o'clock Charlie episode is the plane flown in it, is an American plane. Also, the pilot Charlie isn't even flying the plane. The real pilot can be seen in the front cockpit bent over trying to hide. The plane was given a quick paint job to cover the shiny metal exterior and American markings. The plane is still kept at the same airport that it was flown from for filming the show.

The comic one is so funny bc like. Bj got drafted in 52 but is at a New Years party for the incoming of 51. Radar is canonically psychic. Like Hawkeye in his own inner monologue refers to it as ESP and Radar responds to the thought. Multiple people tell him to stay out of their heads and at one point Henry even asks him to stop coming before he’s called and they say “well I dont like to be late sir” “how can you be late when I don’t even know I want you” implying that even Henry didn’t know he was about to call him. Time doesn’t work and they have a guy who’s psychic, I think the comic thing is fine and fits in just as well as reading minds or being at a party that took place a year before you getting there.

I've caught some of those mistakes myself, but one that was overlooked in this video is a video shot of one episode of someone in "Radar's" office picking up the trash can to dump it on the desk and the trash can is a 5 gal. "Plastic" bucket painted drab green. They only used metal cans back then. It had round reinforced plastic molding on it's bottom. You couldn't tell it was plastic until it was inverted.
@JeffDeWitt
@JeffDeWitt Жыл бұрын
You are the first person other than myself I've seen notice that. I DO remember the metal cans used before the plastic buckets and there is a difference very noticeable from the side. The plastic buckets have reinforcing rings around the top, the metal buckets do not.

How about Colonel Potter showing up on September 19th 1952. The war was over in July of 1953. Anyways ,Potter tells people he's 62 years old many times. That would mean he was born in 1890. So that would make him 27 years old in 1917 when the US entered WW1. But upon Potters arrival he tells Radar that he was in the Cavalry in WW1 and said he was 17 and lied about his age. Also when Potter had an anniversary. Radar found a horse that Hawkeye and BJ helped him with. He called the horse a he or him and then gave it to Potter and he called the horse a he. But then later in the series Potter had Sofie which was a she (mare). There's more too. I'll tell you. All you have to do is ask.

Here are a few goofs I noticed (I'm sorry if these have already been mentioned). (1) The clock-radio in Margaret Houlihan's tent was made in the late 1960's. (2) Radar is using an adding machine in one episode, which was made in the mid 1960's. (3) The aqua colored movie projector used on movie nights, is a Bell & Howell model which came out in 1964. (4) The MASH hospital bus is a 1963 Ford.

I'm 3 years late but there's a continuity error with Margrets Father. I forget which episode, but Margret gets very drunk and as she's talking to Henry Blake, she remarks that he looks just like her father did before he died. Yet several seasons later, Margrets Father actually comes to the M.A.S.H. 4077 in one episode and is known to speak with Margret over the phone in several others.

I just assumed it was intentional. This is a video about mistakes so we're going to put mistakes in our video kind of thing. For instance, the opening title card of this video it says, "12 Mistakes You Never Noticed 'IS' M*A*S*H', then the comic book episode it clearly says "raiders" but he says "rangers" and they titled that episode the "turtle" when it's actually titled "tutle." Then again, it could just be a bad script or a bad read.

There are mistakes, errors and bloopers in all our favorite shows. It's kind of fun to catch them, but you usually need to watch the show several times. If you love the show watch it...when you know the plot and script by heart-look for mistakes, errors and bloopers. 65 + years old and still watch M*A*S*H reruns. Thanks for pointing these out!
