This is why Metallica was so great. Their music has always had a classical influence, thanks to the late Cliff Burton. They seem to have gotten away from that over the last couple decades. :/ I would love to see a transcribed version of To Live is to Die or Orion as well.

David Glidden I agree with your thoughts on Cliff. He was a huge talent no doubt. And I love their old music as well. I have been a fan since AJFA. And I also think that the Ride The Lightning and Master Of Puppets albums are some of their best work. Personally I’m not a huge fan of Kill’em All, but there is a few songs I like even on it. But to say Metallica “was” so great is kinda not a fair statement I don’t think. They are probably 10x more popular and successful than they ever thought of being. And definitely one of the most popular metal bands ever. And most of their success and popularity came after Cliff’s death and so did a lot of their better music. They have their selves changed the face and popularity of metal music. Metallica is responsible for so many of today’s great metal bands even being heard of. So to say they “was” great is not a fair at all statement. The correct statement is that they “ARE” great.

I think about this as well. How would great composers appraise metal transcribed for piano, cello, etc? They may praise it and enjoy it, but the structures would be strange to them (verse/chorus/bridge/etc) and they may regard it as very simplistic and rudimentary. Bach, Mozart, Wagner and other composers of the time created the longest, most intricate musical compositions in history.

Bravo, Bravo. I love it when the so called lines of music are blurred. People always ask me what’s you favourite type of music and I couldn’t answer it the way they wanted it because I don’t like just one type and when I was younger it was hard for my friends to understand so there were many times I just told them what they wanted to here because every time I’d try to explain that love all music and sometimes it just depends on my mood ( much more in-depth than that) they never really got it but having the love for music, being a musician and a singer I do love or at least appreciate all music. Now I love Metallica but I also love piano classical and contemporary I’ve seen both in concert and loved each equally but different, and to me that’s the power of MUSIC.🎶🎵

Actually that was the first "Metallica" song what we could listen along together - and immediately the original hit too (one of my favourite Metallica songs!).(Surely I have missed the notes of both solos, but ONE piano cannot replace TWO guitars. I never wish Impossible things, so that was more than all right.) First time that she didn"t want to leave me alone after 10 seconds! Thank to you, that YOU have made it interesting for her too. But anytime you would like to change your mind - we are waiting for it!! 😊 Up to my daughter : She has made her final exams (there is a possibility to finish with a basic exam after 6 years) and she's left the school. Her new teacher was a great asshole, I must say. She was told to be realy talented, but it was already too boring for her, and she has chosen another school. In her age it's pretty hard to change a kid's mind, you know. And I didn"t want to be the bad father. Perhaps she will start again after a short period - or never ever, who knows?! It"s her life, you know!! Many, many greetings, and thanks very much for your kind answer. It"s no doubt, that musicians are REALY intelligent! 🤗 Have a nice week - end!!
@peternemes67706 жыл бұрын
Norman V And for the 10th time - that was very good again. And for to the criticts in the comment section : Yes, maybe it is REALY played a bit quicker than the original song. And? I think it's NOT A COVER, it's a fantastic version of a fantastic song. You can play it a bit different,(slower, faster, not note by note.. etc) you have to have your"musician's freedom ", 'cause you have re-written it to another musical instrument. And - to tell the truth - that is the point why we like it so much!! Cheers!!

+Matthias Busse Thanks for the comments. There was a long discussion about tempo early on in the comments. You may be interested to read. Also, it's possible I 'forgot' some notes; I did have to make some choices when arranging for piano. Lastly, you know of course that I did not transcribe the guitar solo at the end, opting for my own, improvised solo followed by a coda of my own.

Heard this song a million times, and this gave me chills and goosebumps galore... As great as the original is and how amazing a song writer must be to compose such a thing, but there's something about a piano and the emotions they can stir. I was hoping the riff at the end would match the intensity as the original. I'd imagine it's nearly impossible match the keys with the strings of Kirk Hammett.

Yes yes and yes. Keep it up. Want to hear more piano covers from you. Really good.

Try 0,75x speed. Its amazing! 👍

Yes it sounds awesome, but I lasted 30 seconds before feeling like I wanted to top myself! Sounds really depressing at that speed. Which I suppose is the whole point of course.

This is just an opinion and constructive criticism in no way am I trying to put down this pianists talent because he is really talented., but the feel of this performance doesn't feel right. Is sounds rushed and played by someone that's never listened to the original. Slower would have worked a little better. Great job though!
@Coexist-ph2ye8 жыл бұрын
I agree. Had he started slower and let the tempo build on it's way to the crescendo, it would have been more faithful to the original. None the less, it was a joy to hear.

David Johnson have you heard Vkgoeswild piano version of this .....the solo was identical to the real song

David Johnson i always hear it when pianists play live. They never keep a consistent tempo through out a song unless the song is specifically written to not need one. It would genuinely help if pianists like this guy at least had a click track they were playing to in order to keep time instead of the drastic rushes and brakes.

yeah they call it "phrasing", the tiny speedups and slowdowns. in piano, it is a stylization. when you're used to a very steady beat (as you should be in a transcribed metal song), it'll throw you off.

I mean if there's an accuracy issue then that's worth commenting about. If someone wants to play a song a certain way inaccurately then fine but people are going to point the shit out. As a pianist I hate only getting positive feedback because only the negative feedback (criticism) is actually useful (pretty much in 100% of cases). As in only getting positive feedback is not 'being nice' it's inconveniencing the person you're giving the feedback to.

The speeds and changes of the tempo is what gives this amazing song the power to be so emotionally moved, as i was when i first heard it 30 years ago. I think this a little fast also but as musicians you will play from tje heart and it effects everyone differently. This definatly didnt suck and i commend you for playing it the way you let effect you.

pacing ruined it. no doubt beautifully played.... but ruined by trying to add your owm personal flair to someone elses work.
@normanv7297 жыл бұрын
Sorry you didn't dig it, but thanks for the compliment. Keep in mind this is a piano transcription of a piece for metal ensemble; one has to make some alterations to accommodate the new medium. By pacing I think you mean tempo (speed). I did alter the tempo.
