Aerith is the only key that could unlock Cloud. I'm not saying Tifa couldn't, it's just that Cloud is the better version of himself whenever Aerith is around. Actually, the best version of himself.

@@laulaurenz I agree. I noticed that most people (even tifa) kind of treated him like a dog who needed to be trained, at least early on. But aerith never really tried to change him and never really treated him like how he acted was wrong and as a result, he naturally becomes a better person around her. He becomes nicer to her and others. He tells the flowers to learn to talk to her even though he made fun of Barrett earlier for saying he could hear the planet, he basically did a charity job by only charging the kids he met 3 gil, he shows signs of emotional pain when elmyra told him to stay away from her, actually wants to high five her, offers to escort her back home at the slight chance she might not get home safe, constantly shows concern for her, constantly compliments her(though he usually says it's not) and tries to act cool around her, and even openly admitted to her that he was worried about her in his resolution scene

Final Fantasy 7 is a love story between Cloud and Aerith Aerith moved on. Zack is in the past, his death is only used as a tragic background for both Cloud and Aerith, but many people took it the wrong way. This can't be in the canonical book, where did you read it? According to the canon, she begins to flirt with Cloud because of the external resemblance to Zack. But after a while, she realizes that they are very different, she falls in love with Cloud much more than with Zack and wants to be with him forever, if it were possible. She meets Zack in Lifestream, and realizes that she no longer has feelings for him, and that her feelings for Cloud are real and sincere . Zack offers them to be together in Lifestream , she rejects him because of her love for Cloud . This is what is written in the official books. And the fact that her love for the Cloud is much stronger , it is written not even in one, but in several official books. And nothing will change in the game. Because FF7OG is a love story of Cloud and Aerith, fans will not forgive if this doesnt happen in the remake She can't love him more , according to all the canons ( Books and OG), her feelings for Cloud are much stronger .She even says it herself to Zack in Lifestream. And the relationship in the remake will not change , you can be one hundred percent sure of that. If you think that something has changed, just because she called his name in the park, unlike the original. I'll tell you why she said the name. So that the fans of Crisis core dont hate her character. It would be cruel to repeat the original in this scene, after Crisis Core, where people liked Zack and Aerith.

I realize yours in an old comment but so far in the Remake trilogy they seem to be really displaying the relationship even more than in the OG. I think also because many people today, especially the younger audience, lack the same level of comprehension of the older generations I think mainly due to social media. There's much less nuance. But even then people still don't understand the story otherwise shipping wars wouldn't even exist. I honestly don't know how they can really enjoy the game in its full glory. Aerith's death scene lacks any real weight if you don't understand their relationship and why it is so tragic. People still think Sephiroth killed Aerith only to stop her from casting Holy. Your comment sums up the game perfectly. There are also many parallels between the Romeo and Juliet play and their love story. The whole Loveless play is their relationship. It's funny people's reaction when they find out Cloud and Tifa has never been a thing in any of the advertising and promo material. Apparently it's all false advertising.

Considering the plot is now about unshackling yourself from fate and defining your own future, I can practically guarantee there is a route where Aerith lives on. Not sure if it will be a special route achieved by doing certain things, or a scenario that happens after resolving the plot of the games, but its gotta be an option somewhere. I know Cloud, past, present, and future would not give up the chance to save her.
