I have been asked by Ruksana (otherwise known as Umm Abdullah), Sarrah (otherwise known as Sister Sarrah) and both their familes to write a short statement in relation to the recent events. This statement will address a significant issue that goes to the root of the relationship between Ruksana, Sarrah and Hasanat. None of these views are from Al-Madad Outreach, rather they are based upon the individuals involved and have been verified by my findings, to the best of my ability I shall share their testimony.
I will not be including details of personal indiscretions as these are matters between a person and their Lord and are of no benefit to any Muslim, the aim is not to publicly humiliate another Muslim.
Ruksana is the longest standing wife of Hasanat and the closest to him. Sarrah is a co-wife and has been married for several months.
Both Ruksana and Sarrah accept that they have been living a double life during their marriage to Hasanat; one that is Islamic which is portrayed on social media and another has been hidden out of sight even from their family, this is conclusive. It is not until recently that their families have become aware of such hidden behavior, as a result their families have intervened out of love and are in the midst of dealing with the aftermath.
By their own admission, these young women have been subjected to a horrendous level of emotional, religious, mental and physical abuse. It is only now that they are not with Hasanat that they are slowly coming to a realisation, prior to this both were in a state of shock. It is my understanding that there are other women who have been subjected to the abuse of this individual.
None of what is being said now is to justify any actions that were immoral, but rather to provide some explanation of what has gone on. I have tried my best to include the major issue that concerns the welfare and safety of those involved and the community.
On the authority of Ruksana and with verification from her family who were present, were told in no uncertain terms or ambiguity that Hasanat in fact had been an agnostic and that this is the explanation for all of his behavior. In other words, Hasanat has been portraying to the world that he is Muslim, when in fact he has on several occasions both in private and in front of people denounced himself from Islam and has actively coerced his wives and other individuals into leaving Islam and or to commit acts which are sinful, immoral and dangerous. These are not mere accusations, his actions have been verified by witness accounts from Ruksana’s brother, father and other family members, furthermore Hasanat has himself affirmed.
The implications of Hasanat’s actions, will indeed have ramifications on the legal status of the marriages from an Islamic perspective simply put, it may annul the marriage(s). Indeed this double life has been corroborated by Ruksana, Sarrah and others. It is an atrocity that such individual can behave in a manner and use the religion as a justification for his own morally deprived, selfish inhabitations. Hasanat stuck to the language and appearance that people wanted to see and fraudulently allowed people to believe that he was Muslim and by doing so he was allowed to not only fool those around him but the public at large.
I have summarised and attempted to convey what I have heard from Ruksana, Sarrah and both their families. There is no-doubt, there are multiple implications from Hasanat’s actions that are outside the remit of Al-Madad Outreach. Our work is to hear the victims, offer spiritual support and counseling, to collect and verify the evidences to then offer to the correct authorities and specialists.
As a community we are in desperate need of a safe place where people can get support when they face spiritual abuse from duaat and scholars who have abused their trust. We intend to focus more on marriage mediation and counseling for the muslim community in general.
There are many points that shall be addressed by the family in the near future without the help of Moinul Abu Hamza.
