I went with Montana 700. exchangeable battery is a must.

Great advice. My buddy Mike from MikenRickOutdoors bought the 700i but exchanged it for the 750i due to it being able to take photos. I will being ordering the 750i within the next few weeks. Rick

@@outdooremergencytech as far as 700i or 750i I decided on 700 and mini2 as separate devices. in case Montana device gets damaged or I run out of battery and need to use satellite comms... mini2 comes in handy even without the use of Montana and with x-times the battery life. or I can loan mini2 to my wife or friends while still have Montana on me. I also have Zello that I'm currently using then lll switch to mini2 to try it out.

That's smart. My favorite satellite communicator is the Mini 2 and I can loan out any number of my satellite messengers, but I would have to start up another subscription for them or they could pay themselves. My biggest issue with loaning out devices is that I use them a lot for comparison videos, so I don't want them damaged or lost. Rick

LOL. Thanks. Maybe it shows how complicated the 66i is or how un-prepared I was. I am starting a playlist for the 66i breaking down all that the 66i does...successfully. Thanks for the comment. Rick

Gained bit of clarity from garming support page. When the DIRECT PATH option is selected, there will be no map adjustments and no recalculations during navigation. When ROADS&TRAILS option is selected, the course will adjust to follow map data and the course will be recalculated as needed during navigation.

Perfect! I was thinking more about that last night after I fumbled my way through the video, and will be testing this out in greater detail, with more success in the coming weeks. Rick

have you tried to create automatic round trip, you can set your preferred distance. press FIND - ROUND-TRIP ROUTING. set up start location, distance and press search. would it guide you on nearby paths/trails? Navigation might depend on options activated as Direct routing , Direct Path/Roads&Trails/Prompted. I wonder...

No I have not, but due to your excellent advice, I will be testing this out. Thanks, Rick

Hi, I did play with 66i as well, it seems simple. "Move up" offers you to move that particular waypont up inserting it between other wayponts. I know you got it. Watched video with interest. Direct path or road&trails confused me, had to read up on it on garmin help website, it's also on 66i manual. manual is my friend, is it's also built in on 66i? I'll look it up. One thing is negative on 66i I experienced is while on charge from mains it will not let me use it. BUT I DID ATTACHED IT SECOND TIME AND IT WORKS WHILE BEING CHARGED. I think it was initially on 1% battery and needed tiny top up. that makes me think if it will work while using power bank attached??? There are powerbanks what support also "pass-through" it can charge itself from mains and same time charge device attached. When I cycle in London I have it on cycle profile. but there is also Tour cycling, Mountain biking. I believe navigation algorithm is set up differently for each of them. But it doesn't explain where is the difference. Same as with Pedestrian walking, Hiking, Mountaineering activities. There is Direct Routing option on/off and Lock on Road option on/off and more confusing Course navigation 3 options what you came across (Direct Path/Roads&Trails/Prompted). It is explained on Garmin help website but I had to read more on it, once was not enough.

I followed instructions on 66i manual to reverse a route, reverse a track and reverse a course in the device. elect Course Planner. 2 Select a course. 3 Select MENU > Reverse Course. The "reverse course" option is not there. I did save a course as a Track and then it will give me option to create a reverse Track. same issue with a Route on my 66i, can't reverse it directly as per manual. Any ideas why, something to do with settings?

Great question, but I'm going to have to come back to this question as I don't understand the 66i well enough yet. I will look into this as one of my first tests in a new series I'm creating on the 66i. I will create a playlist, starting with the SOS and 2-way messaging, followed by tracking and TracBack, and then will go on to the different ways to navigate by route and create routes on the device itself while in the field. I'm starting on this new series this week and will be putting out at least two videos each week on it. Rick

Rick, you lost me on this one. I could never figure out how to do all of that while in the wild. If I did learn how to do it, I wouldn't be able to remember how I did it a month later. That thing is way too complicated for me! Don
@outdooremergencytech Жыл бұрын
I agree. I lost myself on it. I'm going to break this GPSMAP 66i down in smaller videos as it is so complicated. My favorite satellite communicator is the Garmin inReach Mini 2 because it is powerful but way more simple, but I am doing my best to give the GPSMAP 66i a fair shot. Rick

Viewing the Current Activity By default, the device automatically starts recording your path as an activity when it is turned on and has acquired satellite signals. You can pause and start recording manually. 1 Select Recording Controls. 2 Select and to view an option: • To control the current activity recording, select . • To view data fields for the activity, select . • To view the current activity on the map, select . • To view the elevation plot for the current activity, select . Navigating Using TracBack® While recording, you can navigate back to the beginning of your activity. This can be helpful when finding your way back to camp or the trail head. 1 Select Recording Controls. 2 Select to switch to the map tab. 3 Select TracBack. The map displays your route with a magenta line, start point, and end point.
