Thank you for being so transparent and sticking to your dreams. You’ve got the right mindset. At the end of the day a lot of the competitive specialties come down to networking and research. Trust, I know folks with low scores or didn’t pass the first time who are in competitive specialties and it was because of the connections they made or the amount of pubs they had. Rooting for you all the way!

@@zchats26 Just a curious question: If a person chose to get a master's or a PhD in public health and then decided to apply to medical school, would it be easier for them to get in and would they still have to take Step 1 etc? Also, if a doctor of family medicine wanted to specialize in plastic or orthopedic (or after he's been in it for a little while) what would he need to do to switch career paths since he's a doctor already?

Same situation here. I'm an IMG and recently failed step 1. I also want to persue ortho, but I'm still doubting if I should even try again, because of how hard it gets. Do you think it's still worth to try to match in ortho?
@zchats2613 күн бұрын
@@joserobertorodriguez73 I cannot tell you if it’s worth It or not. Because the process will, 100%, be more difficult. More networking, more research, more academic achievements in the latter part of your career. So - it’s a willingness to do all of that. I, personally, started to change my mind tbh. Not because I mind the extra work - but because the things I like about ortho aren’t specific to ortho lol. For example, working with my hands or athletes. So - I’m currently exploring other routes while maintaining leadership in ortho, just in case. Who knows, I may end up dual applying! I think the key is figuring out what you want and getting the people/resources to do that without listening to the naysayers
