Great mechanic, he really takes the time to explain things. A lot of people don't know that the leak from that small hole is warning them to replace the pump soon. Looking forward to future installments.

I had a 1998 Dodge Neon there was a rattle under the hood letting off on the throttle not sure what it was I had a mechanic look he just want to sell me a different car or just lazy the next day driving down the road all the coolant dumped out and the timing belt jumped off the pulley because it locked up and bent the valves

When I was working at a service station as a kid in the early 89s, a guy came in with leaking fuel from the mechanical fuel pump weep hole He just wanted a screw to block the hole. He didn't want to believe me, but we got him a new pump and sent him on his way.

Yeah, my 2005 Camry water pump failed as if designed to at 60,000 miles. This resulted in also the belt being replaced. No idea if the belt needed replacing, but if I had 60k on me, which I certainly do, made sense to replace the belt as well. Interestingly enough, everything else after 15 years is the same...air filter, plugs! An amazing display of durability though most of the time it was within a garage or carport. Got some work to do...just not sure what is really necessary for this old boy! Some of it is common sense, but damn, this thing runs like new!

I just replaced the water pump on my Hilux but didn't need to at 193k kilometers , the squealing noise was just a loose belt slipping on the alternator when the voltage regulator kicked in.

Hey Peter, > I know that "YOU KNOW", but maybe you'd better tell the owner to cough up a little more $ to replace the BELT TENSIONER also,,,, > I didn't think about that when I had mine rebuilt,,, about a year and half later,,,,, wow,,,,,,, wife calls me on the other side of the country,,,,,,,, in MID SUMMER: In "Yuma, Arizona",,,,,,, car began to make noise,,,, (before heating up), and she pulled over car died..... it turns out it was the tensioner went bad,,,, original from '93, this was in '18.

The casting mark on the pump reads 15, meaning it was made in 2015. Was this an aftermarket pump or was this an oem pump?
@toml74204 жыл бұрын
You are correct!!
@toml74204 жыл бұрын
Probably aftermarket!!
@paulparoma4 жыл бұрын
This is why some new designs place the water pump inside the timing chain cover. If it starts leaking, it will do so right into the engine, and you'll never see it. Thus, you won't have to worry about a thing. Better yet, some of those newer ones are electrical. What could possibly go wrong?!

I have a 2008 toyota tacoma sr5 4 cylinder and I was told by a mechanic that it was not worth it to change my transmission fluid he added that it would worsen my tranmission of course since I am not a mechanic I could not agree or disagree. Any thoughts on that? P.S. its a five speed manual we boight it brand new in 2008 it has 151k miles
@darrellborland1194 жыл бұрын
@jcherrera104...that sounds like a load of bs...some automatics do not benefit, I have heard, but a manual transmission, it seems to me, would benefit from an oil change...maybe even synthetic manual fluid? Please fire that mechanic!. thanks.
