You see, this is all inspirational, but how do I get started? We're do you get the money in the first place to make a film. Where do you go to get people to pick it up? Is it a sponsor thing? Do you have to win a bunch of awards first? How stable is this job? I want to have a family and a wife, so I'm looking for a stable job, is this stable at all?

nope, this route namely - independent film - is the least stable route, it is not a job...at all, unless you sell your film which is like winning the lottery odds....make short films, and write consistently and either have a day job or make corporate videos, spec commercials, web branded content...if you're doing client based videography then filmmaking will feel more like 'a job'

Matt Joyce thanks! I think I'm gonna try client based videos (wedding videos, music videos, ect) and save up for short films

There's not alot of money in music videos either but they look better on a reel than narrative stuff, commercials are becoming like short films though because cable/broadcast is dying there's no rubric for time anymore, it doesn't have to be a 30second spot....so alot of clients are making short films to showcase their brand...if you make spec commercials and music videos then that's a creative way to build your reel, and short docs too.....weddings are entirely different, they're usually a seperate reel, it's its own thing but you can get gigs easily if you have a decent camera....another route is just try and get a job as a Office PA or intern at a production company and then get into editing, editing is a solid way to earn a living then write a feature or find a script and then get funding (a huge seperate topic) and make a microbudget feature....everyone in this video above has either made one or is working towards a feature film (or switching to TV ha ha)
