Failure to Appear at Atlanta Municipal Court? Bond forfeiture and a warrant for your arrest for FTA? Atlanta Municipal Court is our busiest. Missing your scheduled court date carries some tough penalties and consequences. You will likely have to pay the FTA court fee, plus the DDS reinstatement fee for failing to appear. Suspension of your drivers license is the most bothersome to most people. A warrant is also issued for your arrest, which is broadcast on the GCIC (Georgia Crime Information Center) computers. Plus, you will have a lot of inconvenience and loss of your valuable time, in getting the failure to appear in court cleared up.
If arrested for DUI or any other traffic citation in Atlanta by a City of Atlanta Police Officer, GA State Trooper or MARTA officer, and you have your first court appearance (court date) in the City of Atlanta Municipal Court YOU MUST APPEAR or a FTA, possible bond forfeiture (if you had a DUI or other offense requiring you to post bond) and suspension of you, and that any bail bond be forfeited. Judges, who have full calendars, usually grants it.

Blowing off a court date will turn you into a fugitive - a fugitive without a valid driver's license. Usually the cops don't go to extra effort to pursue a Traffic Court truant but simply wait until the same person attracts the attention of a policeman while driving -- drivers who get tickets and fail to appear tend to attract traffic stops. If he's caught while driving then, in addition to the original ticket charge (if it wasn't already decided against him by default), there's the Criminal (not traffic) charge of Failure to Appear, and the new traffic ticket (if he was caught by a traffic stop), and things get much worse if this fugitive is found to be in possession of a firearm.
