Beautiful shots! Especially the last one. Besides creating scale I also really like her pose, just sitting there and taking in the beautiful nature you're photographing. Makes sense to have her in there.

Nick, have to take a moment to thank you for all the risks and efforts you take in the name of providing us KZbinrs with great video subject matter. No telling how much gear you have gone through in those efforts to take us along on your journey. It hasn't gone unnoticed and is so much appreciated. Love the way you just put it all out there, your challenging moments, both good and bad, with no sugar coating. Great video.

Nick, that last image has such beautiful balance between the rocks and the sky! Agree I love the way the woman kind of blends and is more of a hidden gem than an actual feature of the photo. Congrats again to you both on your marriage! 💕

I live in Hawaii and shoot in situations like this quite a bit. I recommend watching the waves for 5 to 6 minutes so you can see where the largest set of waves are crashing. The wave heights aren't consistent so you really need this amount of time to figure out where the largest waves are hitting. You also need to pay attention to where the sand and rocks are wet. I usually stay behind that line to avoid getting my equipment wet. You can move into the wet areas temporarily once you figure out the timing of the waves. Too many people run right up to the water line immediately and then are taken out by large waves just a couple minutes later. Unfortunately, there are too many people that don't make it back to shore alive!

Absolutely Beautiful! Every time you post a picture on facebook or a video of your adventures I get inspired to go out shooting! I like your shot number 2 because of that many little waterfalls of the receding water 👍🏻 the person in the last is to subtle - maybe because I watched it on my phone... Beautiful pictures, Nick!

Great photo with the lady sitting on the rock. She adds scale and interest to the image. The viewer can identify with her and they wished they sat on the rocks. A small dry bag may work well to hang your battery and keep it dry

I love, love, love the Oregon coast!I can't wait to get back (probably this summer). Even on a "bad for photography" day, it can be a great day for doing what that young woman was doing - looking out over the water, listening to the ocean, the birds, even watching the occasional human. I'm jealous Nick that you live so close.

Gorgeous pictures Nick! I love it when things go wrong on a shoot sometimes but you persevere and come away with some great photos. Triumphant! ha ha. When I was young, my temper would get the best of me but my photo buddy would calm me down and say, "Its ok, you are still out in a beautiful place. Enjoy it for what it is, enjoy the moment." I listened and many times came back with beautiful shots I never ever would've gotten. He's gone now but his words live on as whispers in my mind. Thanks Tim, miss you.

With the A7RIV when not in use take the battery out of the camera. The on and off switch to easy for things in your camera bag to turn on the camera. Resulting drain battery and over heating the battery.

3:01 Great tip. Last year on my beach vacation, I stopped a few feet out of the surf to take a few shots of a lighthouse just off the beach. I was able to get my shots, but I no sooner got everything packed up, that a huge wave washed over the area I was standing in. I can accept being wet, but my camera gear, not so much.

Gorgeous!! Love Hawaii!! I am traveling to Costa Rica in June and I am staying on a small cove with a black sand beach. Has some great foreground elements but I’m dreaming of doing a pano. Is this crazy tricky to do with the waves?? Would it be easier during the day vs sunset?? I don’t know if I have the skills yet to stack exposures and stitch a pano with waves but, I think I could at least take the pictures and come back to them later. Suggestions?????

@Nick Page i notice you don't use a trigger or timer for shots at 1/3 second. I use a canon Mirrorless APS-C and have tended to always used the timer when using the tripod to make sure i don't get camera shake. Just wondering at what shutter speed would you use a timer/ cable release?
@NickPage4 жыл бұрын
it mostly depends on how stable my tripod is. If i have a nice secure platform, and am trying to time waves.. i dont bother with a release.. but if I am on wobbly ground.. thats when I break out the remote. Its the benefit to having a nice tripod

Question regarding the lady sitting on the rocks at the end of the video or for that matter even the beach fisherman that looked to be behind you.... Would you ever approach the person explaining that you are a professional photographer and offer them a print since after all they are in your photograph? Seems to me it would be a great human gesture to do so. Something I would definitely do.

Thank you for this new upload. Beautiful photo! It gives me inspiration and I learn allot from it. Here a advice from a Dutch Grunt. Get a old bicycle inner tube. Cut it in thin long strokes. And take that with you. It comes in handy in allot of situation. You can use it as rough elastic band, to bind you gear with. Easy as hell for lighting fires. And in combination with al plastic bag you can waterseal everything! Hows the trip with the guys going? Greats from the Netherlands, Duncan

Nick,great video as always !One question:If you have to push the exposure in post for 3-4 stops...you will use the dynamic range of your camera,or you will go for exposure blend always in this scenario ?
@NickPage4 жыл бұрын
It depends on the situation for sure. I really try to avoid pushing the exposure any more than a couple stops, sometimes you don’t have a choice like when things are moving. I always exposure blend if I can. Sometimes I do a combination of pushing the exposure close to the horizon then using a cleaner and brighter shot for the foreground
@L.Lyubomirov4 жыл бұрын
@@NickPage Thank you Nick for the answer,but would you push your sony 4 Stops ?Or you will pushing max 2-3 stops,to be sure it is very clean ?
@NickPage4 жыл бұрын
@@L.Lyubomirov only if I have to.. 2 stops.. super clean.. 3 stops.. pretty clean.. 4 stops.. there is noise.. so its always better to bracket and blend if you can when your pushing stuff that far
