And to me, no NuWho Doctor ever showed the burdens of his losses, and yet still be able to have a sense of joy and wonder as well. The speech in the Rings of Akhaten (that's in spell check, wow!) is my favorite speech of his, because he shows it so well there. Especially in the fan-made one, "The Doctor's Memories."

What gets me is that it's a table reading. He never recorded the lines as a voice over or acted out the scene. This is literally his table reading of that scene in the script Arthur darvill said as much in an interview with BBC One or something like that

The actor who played Rory's Father Mark Williams was unavailable to film this scene so it never happened. Shame it was never in the episode or shot but this is better. The storyboard way of doing it makes it more emotional and powerful. Maybe a good thing it was never shot.

It’s already weird and bad enough that his grandson is older than and that he lost both his son & daughter in law without any kind of proper goodbye , they simply just disappeared 1 day for good But to actually explain river very complicated life & existence no how they technically did met each other and know each other (when river grew up with her parents) then to tell him that he also missed out on her life and that’s she’s dead/will die in the future but in the past for the doctor and he can’t really do any about it…. I think that would have just cruel, it’s better he doesn’t know, his heart is already broken over Rory, Amy and his grandson, he would just straight up a heart attack/broken heart syndrome had he informed about river

This was the scene they wanted to shoot, but they had to cut it before they shot it. But they loved the scene they didn't shoot, so created this little following of the storyboard, added music and narrated it for the fans.

I love this mini episode, from what I remember it was meant to be filmed and added on to the end of the episode but the thought it would have been to much coming after Amy’s goodbye letter to the Doctor. Chibs helped Moff write that last episode that’s why it’s credited to him. It has a bigger impact I feel in story bored form.

6:34 we all knew that both Amy and Rory were leaving the series in this episode. this piece was supposed to be in the episode "The Power of Three" as a prelude to that, but it was felt it gave away too much information, then they thought they could attach it to the end of "The Angels Take Manhattan" and thought differently.

Its different. Idk why people are comparing it to others. He told Brian "not them" in that little conversation in episode 4. Then right after he gets them "killed". He can't go back, he's ashamed of himself and can't face him. Though I wish he faced Brian and told him. Tough situation

This was intended to be filmed, but Mark Williams (Rory’s father, Brian) was unable to film due to other filming conflicts, so it never got filmed.

If I'm right, someone else must have told you already, but it's my understanding that this was supposed to be part of the last episode, but they weren't able to film it. They still did it this way to give Brian and fans closure.

According to writer Chris Chibnall, it was originally intended to be a live-action DVD extra, but actor unavailability meant it couldn't be filmed, so instead its storyboards were animated and narration was commissioned from Arthur Darvill. Ultimately the scene was released as a webcast by the BBC following the broadcast of The Angels Take Manhattan. Ironically it has never been released on any DVD haha

In this season Moffat seemed to be taking crib notes from George "even ripped off the RR" Martin in terms of building up characters you really like, then killing them off. Oops. in some people's opinion but it did win awards and some people did enjoy series 11and people who react and have done re-watches have changed their tune on the series as well. We all have opinions and not everything is for everyone

because of math. Rory was 82 when he died and he was sent back to New York in 1938....that puts 62 years between Rory and the first usage of what would become skype in 2000. that means that Rory would have had to be less then 20 to do what you ask, but he was at least 21 when he married Amy and that was in 2010. So any contact with his Father 3 years later in 2013 would have been impossible except tapped or in this case written down on paper.

@@SwiftFoxProductions Exactly, like, if his father didn't know about the Doctor and everything it may have been more of a possibility, but if they talked to him and he somehow tried to stop them from getting stuck it could cause a ton of issues. Theoretically they could leave New York if another traveler found them imo, they know enough to make sure everything was set up the way it has to be for the future to remain intact, and weird stuff seems to be attracted to them, but maybe they were ready to retire from saving the universe and just live their lives together.

They decided not to shoot it because they felt the message from Amy at the end of The Angels Take Manhattan was a fitting ending and that this scene would have been overkill. Thankfully, they were aware it was an emotionally powerful scene that fans would enjoy, so they chose to share it with us in this fashion.
