I think the TVS Ident that went into the 'Coast to Coast' titles was - and remains - the best intro to the local news. I just loved the way the ident went seamlessly into the titles. And while most of the logos and idents look a little 'old hat' in 2019, I think the last TVS Logo would still look fine on screen today - still looks fresh and modern.

I've lived in the states all my life, these logos are pretty interesting, the only ones I've ever seen on any TV set are London Weekend (on a videocassette of Upstairs Downstairs)(which I didn't even watch all of) and the Thames logo-I think the second one shown here- opening reruns of Benny Hill and a really weirdly syndicated show called Rumpole on the Bailey, that my mother used to watch.
@daveporter02177 жыл бұрын
I'm also an American fan of ITV idents. You're right that LWT and Thames are the only ones regularly known to US viewers (mainly from Upstairs, Downstairs and Benny Hill). Anglia's flag used to be on Knightmare (but was plastered by ITV's logo in later reruns).
@thepepperpot38095 жыл бұрын
The local PBS station and the independent station in my Midwestern hometown showed *a lot* of British imports from the 70s-90s, so I remember LWT (Upstairs Downstairs), Thames (Man About The House and Robin's Nest, as well as Benny Hill and Rumpole), Anglia (Survival, a nature show), Granada (Brideshead Revisited, Coronation Street, Jeeves and Wooster), and ATV (the 60s version of The Avengers and Space 1999). Plus, we got ITN's international version of their "News at Ten" in the 80s, so I also remember Trevor McDonald!
What did the "Channel 8" bit for Tyne Tees refer to? Even after BBC2 started in 1964 there were only three channels in any one area (BBC1, BBC2, ITV), perhaps a fourth if you could pick up neighbouring ITV franchise? Or did it mean the UHF channel it was broadcast on?
@Roystonhaines7 жыл бұрын
The VHF channel at the time. In the Midlands ATV was on Channel 8 (Lichfield transmitter) and BBC (1) on Channel 4 from Sutton Coldfield. IIRC there were 13 VHF channels in total

Born and raised in the early 90's down in the south, I grew up with TVS/Meridian! Looking back, it was interesting for all these independent little broadcasting companies under one wing to provide their own identities for the different parts of Britain they aired! Kind of a shame they gradually toned back those regional identities until they all just got called ITV or STV everywhere with their respective regions only being brought up on the regional news! 'Twas a neat concept this Independent Television. It wasn't so much a full-on company back then as it was a concept!
