Fairbanks AK Northern Lights Feb 2024

A week of hunting the Aurora Borealis in Fairbanks Alaska.
Four out of six nights the Northern Lights were visible, one of these nights was very good, one night was absolutely spectacular.

Spectacular I’m researching how to get there, how long to stay, where to stay, when to go etc.. Any suggestions?

I flew into Fairbanks from Oregon and stayed 6 nights; 2 of these nights were good, one was fantastic. Take enough time since weather and Aurora are not exactly well. predictable. Fairbanks has a lot of good info available and there are a couple of facebook tracking groups. Late fall is a bit gentler as far as temperature is concerned. Winter gets very cold and you spend the nights outside. Lodges are OK, they have you from 10pm to 2am - most of my observations were later than that. Go up to a ridge, don't stay in the valley. It can be very good towards Chena Hot Springs and in North Pole but chances for clouds and/or fog are higher. Lots. of hotels/motels from $70 upwards.
