I’m so grateful for Daniel C Peterson , Fair Mormon and other scholars who defend our faith.

Dan Peterson is perhaps one of the easiest speakers to listen to that I have heard. His talks are like a breath of fresh air. And yes he does more good than he knows.

He really is a marvelous speaker, and a tremendous human besides. If they could make an exception and allow a non-GA to speak at conference, he would be someone I love to hear from.

One of the purposes in life is to learn to walk by faith. The faithful do indeed "discover" God, even in this life.

Thank you so much for this presentation and sharing it on KZbin. I loved it! May I ask a favor? Your presentation was by and large impeccable but there is an indication that you do not understand the concept of charity. While most LDS equate charity with willingly giving, that is probably not what the Savior intended. Please pick up a copy of Emanuel Swedenborg's Apocaplyse Explained and read the last portion of his last volume of this work. (If my memory serves me correctly it commences around page 198.) In it there is an expose on charity and what it is.
@lynnjohnson23716 жыл бұрын
Gordon Brown welcome. I disagree. I find Peterson to have sincere charity. I suggest you ponder Moroni 7. Charity is of course agape or as Mormon says the pure love of Christ. I sense he loves Christ and in the second sense loves all as Christ would want us to love each other.

40-ish he says the beach thing, if someone is talking about getting to shore it is probably to survive so staying out and enjoying it... Well maybe I missed some of it.

Isn’t an obvious lurking variable in all of these studies that fact that saying you are happy is a way of confirming your religion is true?
@caseykaelin94304 жыл бұрын
Either that or the fact that the reason you are happy is because you are religious.

Who do you feel/believe authored the Book of Mormon, another Testament ofJesus Christ, 1 God, by Prophets here in Americas 2. The Devil 3. A Man, possibly Joseph Smith.
@caseykaelin94303 жыл бұрын
If it was the devil he will need to work on his public relations skills. Jesus is painted in a good light in the BOM while the devil is not.

1 and 3. God instructs all of His prophets to obey His commands. Joseph Smith, a man who would become prophet much like Moses, Abraham, etc., was called to translate via revelation (maybe with stones at times, deciphering characters was NOT his calling nor ever his ability) what would become The Book of Mormon. God speaks, His servants the Prophets write and record what He instructs them to write for current and future generations Another ancient prophet, a man named Mormon, compiled The Book of Mormon into the plates, passed them to his son Moroni (another man who also was a prophet) who later buried them in the hill cumorah, where Joseph at only 17, first encountered them. Fun stuff!!

@@jameswines5862 great question. I guess we’ll have to ask God, since His biblical words seem to be interpreted thousands of different ways. We claim JS to be a prophet, the one chosen to RESTORE many lost basic and simple truths so it wouldn’t really be that weird if he corrected a few misunderstandings from the Bible, by translating the words directly written by other prophets of the era. It will be interesting to see for sure. Thank you for the comment.

@@jameswines5862 Article of Faith #8 From Joseph Smith stating our basic beliefs when he was asked states: #8) We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly, we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God. So the short answer is, YES.
@dcarts56163 жыл бұрын
@@jameswines5862 oh I see where this is going. In short, you believe that God only had prophets in one part of the world and I believe God had believers and His prophets in more than that, hence us saying that the Book of Mormon is Another Testament of Jesus Christ. More scripture from even other parts of the world testifying of God, His Son the Messiah, may be brought forth. It’s pretty interesting.

it takes just as much"faith" to believe in God than it does to not believe. You can not prove either to the satisfaction of the Scientist who have their own religious belief system called Scientism, a trust in man's knowledge instead of the always correct God Almighty and His Son.
@pirbird146 жыл бұрын
Scientism is not a religion.

@@pirbird14 Many scientists are religious so religion and science are not at odds. Though you are right that science can't prove God exists a person can discover for themselves that he does. The reality is that the only thing that can be proved is that God exists, where it is impossible to prove he doesn't.
@pirbird146 жыл бұрын
@@lukesteele4510 Who are you responding to? I never said that science can't prove God exists. So how am I right about that? The fact that some scientists are religious says nothing at all about whether religion and science are at odds. It simply says that scientists, just like other people, can have divided minds. You might think that God's existence can be proven. I don't.
@lukesteele45106 жыл бұрын
@@pirbird14 No scientist or otherwise if a person has two opposing ideas they will always eventually choose one over another so if a person is both a scientist and religious and remains so then those two concepts are not in opposition for them but they have found them complimentary. I am a scientist and religious both and I find they complement each other as well as true religion having both empirical evidence and reason to support it showing that scientism doesn't necessarily contradict true religion. As for whether you said science can't prove God exists perhaps I misread your comment, but that does seem to be one of your points.

@@lukesteele4510 " if a person has two opposing ideas they will always eventually choose one over another " Not necessarily. If they simply choose not to examine one or both ideas all that carefully they can retain an incorrect idea throughout their entire life.
