I appreciate it, but given the disclaimer that I am a violin player, I wish Dave Swarbrick had chosen a more sustained double note drogue sound as appropriate to the flow. "Don't you cry on the sea...for my lady and me. Just a roll, just a roll on your drum, ...and the war has begun."

Seems like Swarbrick totally derailed the song with his "solo". Mattacks looks like he's still pissed off about it by the time Thompson comes to the rescue.

Actually from my 1st listening , Swarb was on the right chords, Thompson & others got mixed up

I agree with you. But he co-wrote - I figure he cab play what he wants... Check out the 2017 Cropredy version. RT will slay you.
