In the Brothers Grimm version, Snow White eclipses the queen in beauty when she turns seven years of age. This is of significance because for Catholics it is the age of accountability. This starts the events of the tale rolling and very quickly she eats the apple and dies (the apple is not only poisoned but enchanted to be irresistible). The tale says that she was in her coffin for a long time, which infers that Snow White grows to womanhood while 'dead.' She becomes alive again the day before her wedding, which makes Snow White virtually sinless as a bride.

Fairy tales were told to children. That's part of why there's often kids in trouble. The German tradition of "be good or else" they're life lessons and meant to be high stakes so they stick with kids and they learn the lesson. Don't talk to strangers, don't trust to readily, don't take short cuts through the woods because they're less traveled and so theyre dangerous, etc

The queen does not ask for the heart in Brothers Grimm version, she asked for the lungs and liver of Snow White and then she eats them. Also, there is no kiss in the original fairy tale. The prince asks the dwarfs if he could buy Snow White in her coffin and they refuse. Then he asks them if they would give them to her and they say yes. The prince has the coffin transported to his castle, and has the servants carry the coffin around from room to room. They finally have enough, and one lifts Snow White out of the coffin and hits her on the back in anger. That dislodges the apple from her mouth and Snow White awakes. The 1857 version has a servant stumble on a tree root and that is how the apple is dislodged.

This was a lot more interesting than I thought it would be based on the subject/title alone. Learned something new for sure, particularly that bit about them gathering/consolidating all the non-structural variations German folk tales in an attempt to create some national identity, very fascinating 13:00 is there any historical account of why the meaning of "childrens" in "children's stories" got twisted and why the target audience shifted from adults to children? A low hanging conspiracy theory ish fruit would be because there was something emancipatory about adults traveling imaginatively through tale and myth, and by limiting them to be taken seriously or imaginatively only by children, and now even that at, only as a means to sell shit, adults are easier to control (or something along these terms).
