Me: Just makes my bed Also Me: destroys my bed to make a blanket fort

I've heard so many versions of this particular tale. There's one where the bird is a goose and the fox is an old poor man, and in another version, there's a magical bird that puts the king's sons to sleep with its song. I wonder how many versions there are...
@abitlate4 жыл бұрын
Probably as many versions are there are people to tell them? I think that's one of the coolest thing about stories!

I agree. It’s funny how people think in fiction that foxes are evil but here the fox is good. Also most people think Frozen is what stated the evil prince twist but here there are two evil princes that turn their backs on their brother.

Ooooh The Firebird story! I love this one! Grew up with it! (Didn't know the Brothers Grimm collected a version actually) Loving the tunes you have on behind your voice :3 In some other iterations it's a wolf and not a fox that gives the advice, and also there's other differences, but the key points are still kept. I love the differences you can find in all the different tellings. Thank you so much for your version!

Heard a similar tale from Arabian Nights. In it, the King wanted the bird because it kept bothering him and that was how he got the feather. Everything else went the same way except the fox was replaced with a donkey as well as what happened with the princess: the youngest son was given a magic candle to help him travel into the palace without being detected and he was only allowed to take the princess if her eye color was right. Luckily her eye color is right and he was able to take her out of the castle. He also kept the princess and the horse for himself but that's because the donkey used magic to impersonate each item temporarily after the prince realized he wants to keep the items. Also, the brothers killed him when he didn't listen to the Donkey to not visit his brothers at that Inn, so the Donkey revived him.

In the version I read, the youngest brother knows he's going to fall asleep, so he *picks the apple himself* and wakes when the bird claws at his pocket to get the apple
@Elfos64 Жыл бұрын
Sheesh, writing standards were so different back then. The fox gave the 3rd son way too many chances, way more help than was deserved, and it was weird that 3 castles in a row wanted him to go to another castle and retrieve something, and it's weird the fox was so open to helping the first time even though he was ignored and betrayed twice before. I think it makes more narrative sense if the youngest brother keeps rescuing his older brothers and the older brothers are the ones who keep making the mistakes of not listening to the fox. Also might make more sense if one of the brothers fulfilled the fox's death request, partially out of lacking the youngest brother's aversion to doing harm, partially out of learning lesson that the fox is best heeded. And why did all the castles let him keep what he was sent to different castle to retrieve? I thought the idea was all those things were stolen from rightful owners and they wanted the stuff stolen back, or maybe they wanted to be the thieves but didn't want to risk one of their own men so they sent him instead. Either way, why let him keep it in the end?
