Actually the "hammer of witches" (medieval inqusition book) features same concept of ideology, however instead of point blank shot, they used boling alive technique. Survived the agony? Demons preserved you. Died in process - demons were succesfully exorcised.

Oh God as you mention at the start that Warhammer Fantasy is being kept alive by the community, I dread the idea of what GW with its Nurgle infested hands will do to good old Warhammer Fantasy lore once they reboot the Old World. We can already see some tendrils in Warhammer 3 with Kislev. With its Ice and Bears and Ice and Bears and Ice on Bears and Bears on Ice.

Ruled by a mighty Tzar, Kislev is a nation born from the saddle, their peoples ancestry being traced to the mighty horse-warriors of the Eastern Steppes many millennia ago" If anything they should be known as riders, nomads, steppe warriors. Then there's the Russian influence with the russian Tsardom that goes from the Streltsy elite guards of Ivan the Terrible, to the Ukcranian Cossacks. And finaly there's the Winged Hussars from Poland. Apparently most of the early lore was Polish Inspired. It's a mix of 16th-17th century inspired cultures with half of its army focused on horseback. With elements of magic and religion playing second, altough important role, the taming of bears as cavalry was done in lore only by Boris to my knowledge. The presence of ice magic is also not as prominent, since it litteraly doesn't work anymore the further south the go. So ice powered bear sleds should be something more fitting Regiments of Renown. An awe inspiring rarity. I think this is the result of a desire to make Kislev more unique, but it's flanderising. There's room for Bear cavalry, Ice spirits, witches and Slavic pagan cults (see Baba yaga) but that should the cherry on top. Not the main focus.
