In this final(and beefy) chapter of the great indie horror Faith: The Unholy Trinity, we get to finally tie all loose ends. Because of the size of this video there may be a few editing quirks and random missing frames.(some mistakes may have flown under my radar) But more importantly, because of the size of this analysis, we will be working with MULTIPLE white board segments for each Act of this chapter and for each major character.
Thank you all for your unwavering patience. I'm going to take a nap now.

Fun fact! If you compare the statue with the visual description of the demon Astaroth (Wings, crown, serpent on hand), the entity that fooled Timmy's parent might be him. And if you consider that Gary might be Astaroth, maybe that parent had a deal with him to bring Timmy's back

@Horus Hyperion now that's an interesting connection. Maybe the candyland killer foreshadows the Implication of a serial killer in chapter 3. Since Ch.2 is a nightmare I'm not sure if the candyland is a pure dream construct or a piece of Ward's memory.

Tiffany's 7×70 is a reference to her sacrificing 490 babies into her second death hole. The reason her head is exploded is because she sacrificed so many that it overloaded her portal. When you heat her, (and through the fight) exactly 490 spirits are released.

It makes sense. I'd think it Miriam watching through the veil of sleep though. I think of everything in chapter 2, Miriam is actually present and influencing him, "You belong to her!". It seems to me that when you defeat Miriam in the dream, it has real world effects. It's John overcoming his fear of her, "Eye does not see her. Children fear her." It also has the effect of breaking her bond with him and influence over him from the orphanage.
@BunnychanFarabee
@BunnychanFarabee 10 ай бұрын
The dream actually did occur though, even if John wasn't physically present. The difference is, when we meet the Peek-A-Boo demon in the Candy Tunnels, it is extremely well-fed off the various junkies and derelicts of the area. It's in a far more docile state and will only attack when agitated. When we run into it at the apartment, Tiffany has been making use of all the sacrifices meant to sustain it to fuel her own Second Death. The demon is starved and desperate, to the point of essentially disobeying Gary's own directives. The notes from the cultists point that out succinctly.

One could say the fact the cross becomes more and more simple could signify that John's faith is becoming so much stronger that he doesn't need as fancy or religiously powerful of a cross. With the last chapter having him able to fend demons with just a wooden cross.

Was just about to comment something similar. It may symbolize the idea that "true" faith doesn't need to be flashy or ostentatious. It's true strength comes from within and doesn't need to be displayed outwardly. The true strength of John's faith is displayed through his actions and commitment to stopping the cult.

@@LaughedYourAssOff I personally think it's both, it was gold when John truly believed his faith was unshakeable (it wasn't) and so it started to turn silver then bronze. It’s my head cannon that Miriam was probably possessed or something instead. Thinking about it, how did Miriam actually learn the steps to make a portal on her own? Sure, she could’ve been taught by someone else, but personally, I think it makes just as much sense that she was a vessel for a demon, who used her like a skin suit to infiltrate the church and begin the cult; I could be misunderstanding or it may already be explained who taught her, but I like how twisted the concept that you, a Catholic nun, are trapped within your own mind watching as your body abuses children, begins a cult for the devil, and literally births hellspawn from your sliced open face. It’d also explain why she’s still around; it seems like spirits in this series tend to be almost exclusively demons, same idea as Amy

I'd have loved to see John's thrall culling in that signature rotoscoping. That said I'm sure once he realized what happened this was just one more devastating trauma he had to overcome. But he does, because Father Ward is absolutely one of the greatest struggling heroes in fiction, right there with Guts and Kratos. Better in some ways even. He doesn't have any magic, or mighty weapons. Just his (formerly) shaky faith, a bum leg, and a cross. But he's got it where it counts. He don't quit at least in my cannon ending. I can't imagine someone wanting him to be bad or neutral ending John but hey we all have our own versions of every story

2:41:48 Regarding Djinn: In Arabic, the word "Djinn" is made up of two letters: The First is "ج" and the Second is "ن" It is a well supported hypothesis that underived words in Arabic that start with "ج" and end with "ن" represent something that is imperceptible to some extent [For example, the word "جنين" meaning Fetus or Embryo, both are imperceptible] Since the word "Djinn" is only made up of those two letters, it is believed that this word describes the nature of the Djinn race as completely imperceptible to humans. As you pointed out, Djinn in Islam are one of the two races which God has given free will, the Second being us, the Human race, which is called "Ins / إنس" And since they are given free will, they can either obey God and be good at which point they are referred to as "Jann / جان", or rebel against him and be evil. [By the way, a human who follow the commands of God is called "Insan / إنسان" And Modern standard Arabic uses this word to refer to humans in general, but it's liturgical original meaning only refers to those who uphold the Laws of God] And if they choose to rebel, whether they be Humans or Djinn, they are referred to as "Shaițan / شيطان" A word which when broken down to its epistemological roots means "that which has allowed itself to succumb to Anger, Hatred and Blood-boiling Rage to the point that it distances itself from that which is Good" Commonly translated as "Devil" So if the Coffin suspended above the entrance to the Crucible of the Profane Sabbath holds the mark of the Unseen Spirits which are neither Good nor evil, but flawed and prone to mistakes, and is in the colour of Amy's text, and can be used by John, a human who is neither good nor evil, but is flawed and prone to mistakes, to seal the Entrance, could this mean that it symbolises the Unseen Spirits of those harmed by the Cult, like Amy, and the people they tortured, like John, uniting to thwart the Profane Sabbath of the Second Death, in an effort to redeem themselves from their wrong doings and fight the True Devils of both the Human and Demon Races? Spirits like Amy for having joined the Cult in the First place, and people like John, haunted by their failures and fears?

Let's just take a moment to appreciate how silly yet subtly genius Gary's final words to John are. Him saying "Gary does not love you!" as an angry roar of hate sounds so cheesy and cartoonish, but it actually has a lot of meaning behind it for those that pay attention to how he operates and what he is like. Gary is a demon of temptation. He offers you things, gives you what you think you want and through those gifts, steals your mind and soul with it. His two great lies partially stem from this: "Gary is a normal human being, just like you and me." and "Gary loves you." One refers to a pretend humility, implying he is similar to us, meaning we are also similar to him, but also making him appear more benevolent. Like he's not the megalomaniac who literally refused his buddy's offer because of his perceived importance. The other refers to his love for us. Thereby implying his open and honest affection toward us. And if you recall, even though he does act mocking toward John a few times, he never curses at him or acts hateful. Even when John is actively ruining his operations, Gary acts friendly and supportive, even congratulating John on his efforts or trying to point out how John is in fact helping him, questioning on whose side John is. And he also uses this 'love' of his in a possessive, demanding way. He outright warns his cronies to remember that he loves them. Almost like he's implying "I love you. So I own you." These are Gary's two great lies, but lies that make up his entire being, his whole presentation towards the outside world. That he is a normal human, no different from us, and that he loves us. And to him, these are basically building blocks of his entire personality. I mean as a demon, sure, he has other traits, but as far as his reasons for existence goes, he has nothing but his work as a demon, which is comprised exclusively of his deceptions and corruptive machinations. So his entire *being* is composed of these two statements. And before the fight against John, he drops BOTH of these lies. Removes the mask. Tosses it out the window. Forgets about it. Is done with it. He already drops the "normal human being" spiel when he shows you his fully demonic form and starts talking about his plans for taking over the world and consuming you through the profane sabbath. But then at the end, just so you fully *know* how much you pissed him off, he goes out and says the full antithesis of his second great lie. I mean you could guess before that he hates John with a passion and wants to destroy him, but he never came out and said it. It was always "Heh, smooth moves, priest!" or "Are you sure you're not on my side after killing Tiffany?" It was always subtle, sneering but still friendly, even admitting the points where John did well. So imagine the elemental, near feral *rage* Gary has to be in to drop his final facade. Imagine how much he hates you, despises you, how much he wishes nothing more than your utter demise. Imagine the desperate, impotent rage he is in for his will to finally erode so much that he is finally willing to come out and scream into your face "I do not love you! I do not want you! Go away!" in his own way. All that emotion and character expressed in just five little words.

Father Garcia's entrance is probably my favorite moment in the series especially after being built up over 3 games. The way he arrives by shooting Gary in the head, and then standing like Archangel Michael with his sword of fire, announcing himself like an angel, "Don't be afraid!" Through practically the whole game (And the series) you've dealt with helpless victims, babies, mental patients, expectant mothers, preschoolers, impressionable and drugged out youth, grooming victims, people outnumbered. You yourself are rather helpless, save for your faith, and in this chapter you're more helpless than ever more often as you lose your cross and get strapped to a medical stretcher, etc, and so when Father Garcia shows up with a shotgun and blasts Gary announcing himself with a "Don't be afraid!" it's like an angel descending upon you, flaming sword in hand, and finally all that helplessness has turned around, a truly righteous warrior of God, who knows evil must die, that which profanes against the Holy Spirit being beyond salvation and is to be slain with God's wrath. It is just so cool, these games always creep me out and make me jumpy but Father Garcia dispelled all that jumpiness and fear, and then the ending where John decides to join him to kill demons, it's so perfect, faith shining bright, the devil's trickery overcome, and John's fear and giving in to the temptations and pleading with the devil, destroyed, and Father Garcia teaming up with an empowered and faithful John, to basically become a duo of Doom slayers. It's just so hype, it's so worth it.

I think the "Damnatio Memoriae" ending is my favorite ending of these. The other ones are great, and definitely more thorough in covering the story, but there's something so...human about being unable to bear the weight of one's own failure and self-deceit. There's an unspoken guilt by John about his failure to "save" his mother, despite the reality that there was nothing he could do. Combine this with his perceived failure to save Father Allred, again, something he didn't have control over, and he was already a walking guilt complex. His want to save Amy and the twins was his path of redemption and finding out that not only could he not save Amy due to his trauma making him unable to confront her and Gary, but that the twins weren't even real to begin with, he would break. He would give up. Anyone would. In this ending, I think it's actually a very subtle criticism of pious worship and religion. John believed that praying for Meredith would save her, and it didn't, because prayer doesn't overcome illness, and he perceives this as a failure on his part, that he just didn't pray hard enough. John believed that only his strength would see him through what he went through at the Martin house, instead of actually coming to terms and mentally, emotionally processing and dealing with the trauma he had endured there, the true horror of what he went through. John believed that saving the twins would be his chance at redemption, despite not actually needing redemption in the first place, as nothing that had happened to him was his fault to begin with. The guilt and trauma he's gone through were never confronted, realized, or dealt with, due to his...Faith.

@@maxwellmegagamer8535 But where else would that person be getting their info from if not Cindy's family? I really liked how you did not frame your own theories and speculations as "discovering the dark secret of Faith" but rather as an appreciative observation for the story and worldbuilding of the game. It's such a thoughtful take on the Game Theory -esque brand of video essays out there, that twists narratives to serve their "secrets"... I love media analysis, but those video feels so disrespectful to content creators carefully crafting their own narratives! This explained series is so well thought out and edited, it was so worth it to dedicate my spare time watching this almost 4 hour video today :,) I've been waiting for it ever since I caught up on the previous videos, and this was such a nice surprise for me to chew on. This is probably my third time revisiting your entire Faith series of videos, just because your personality, delivery, thought processes, observations and just Everything is so compelling and fascinating, while also being very joy-inducing. I basically listen to your videos as a comforting routine to relax after a hard week; despite the heavy subject matters that underlie your topics of choice, your enthusiasm and especially empathy are infectious. I love listening to lore videos, especially of horror media, but sometimes I just feel emotionally drained because I end up feeling like a voyeur to others' suffering-- even if they ARE fictional. Every time I think about how you treat John Ward and William in Who's Lila, I just feel warm inside; I don't know, the compassion is soothing. Thank you so much for all you do!

Airdorf also multiple times said Amy's story was inspired by Anneliese Michel's real life exorcism, her recordings are even used in Miriam Bell's sounds. It kinda adds to the whole ''Amy's childhood got robbed by demons'' plot. To be honest it disgusts me that her torture voice clips are used, but needless to say it does make their exorcisms more chilling. (Michel's audio is also used in the background during Lisa's exorcism, it's really a motif for the exorcism of the women in the game.)

I almost tear up when Amy forgives John after he completes his troublesome journey after all she's been through. I'm starting to wonder what would've happened if John finished what he started from the get go: would he have been able to defeat Gary, or would they have tried to perform the 2nd death on him as a top priority inevitably winning without the subtle guidance of Amy and the twins? Also: notice how the Cross is back to gold in the cutscene when he says "Amen." It's still wooden in the game, but right at that moment it's back to gold. By the way: I don't know any meaning of this, but, if the peakboo demon catches you moving in chapter II he says "whore" if I remember correctly (I could be wrong. After all, I thought that Miram says "my ritual" instead of "my little one" for so long)

This was scrapped for time but I really I hope it gets added back in some kind of later update cause I really like this idea better cause it makes the bad ending a lot more involved and interesting than just sleeping in those days.

Dude, this series is awesome. I discovered you like a week ago and I’ve been so super impressed by your FAITH series. Your description of the Bad Ending is clear and understandable and in-character, gesturing at motivations and feelings Ward could be going through, which I appreciate a lot. It feels less “boilerplate”, more personal. And you’re an awesome storyteller. And, oh man, I really couldn’t help but smile at the Damnatio Memoriae sequence once I understood what was happening. I LOVED that, I feel like your presentation of FAITH as a whole really earned it, over the top as it is, and it was very satisfying as the conclusive beat for that “punished Ward” ending. I especially love how you went for it 110% with the sheer melodrama of using actual video and photo evidence of yourself being “destroyed”! Using the skit format to help drive the implications of the ending home is brilliant and well-executed. And I even appreciate the use of the intro and logo to “reboot” yourself after that as well, which both allows you to “New Game” again in terms of the story and allows you to start this video off immediately and get the short, bad ending out of the way before the intro! I’ve actually paused the video now to tell you this. I’m less than a third of the way into this video and I’m just so impressed. I seriously hope you consider breaking down more media this way, because you bring such energy and joy to this. Excited to see MERCH, as well!! Onward and upward! And I haven’t even tried to decipher the secret whiteboard messages you erase before we start but I bet they’re interesting, and I can hardly wait for better minds than mine to figure them out!! Dude honestly. Garcia is the best friend you could ever have. Looking into leads for John, supporting him morally and eventually saving him with a steel barreled sword of righteous fury. He's like the dad John and Lisa didnt have. He is so devout and brave he doesnt need a gold silver or brass cross. He just has a wooden one seeming as his faith does not need anything more. It makes it so sweet after so long. I feel like John and Garcia are the perfect team. One a man with faith renewed and the other an unshakeable spirit. In my head John goes with him every time, of not for mere morality then for the fact he never really had that figure in his life who fought for him the way Garcia did. The way they meet is probably the best thing ive seen in a while. Reminds me of action movies where the hero thinks all is lost but then some devine providence shows face and provides just enough aid for the hero to become reinvigorated. I thought when going down into the crucible that Garcia had sacrificed himself to let John end things. But seeig him at the end gave me life. I would go with him every single time. Their brothers now really, i mean you dont really expect two guys to stop an actual apocalypse and then split ways. Nah that dude-bro handhake was probably the best way to end the game with the two of them. Lisa can be safe elsewhere. But Garcia would likely go on without John and we can't allow him to come to any harm. We owe him after all.

In my head cannon Lisa keeps a secure home base where they can come for respite and rest. If John goes with Garcia he's ready, if he goes with Lisa it's for rest and recovery. After the rest he gets back on the trail with Garcia. It's not cannon at all, but I like the ending I have chosen to write for myself. They for a holy demon slaying Trinity with Garcia being the Padre, John like his son and Lisa being their spirit or the symbol for why they do what they do. Even those selected and possessed can be freed.

Huh. I never thought John was a fake priest, I thought be was simply acting against church orders, or without asking for the church's opinion at all. A rogue priest, if you will. Him botching an exorcism, being commited and running away aren't enough to get him excomunicated (I think), but it would definitely award him a time-out. Which he would promptly ignore. Also, while I love your interpretation of choosing Lisa, I don't know how well that would work out in the long run. Both of them were marked and involved, both of them are known to the demons that still lurk out there. How safe are they, really? Not that choosing Father García would be much better for John, the man is one latin citation away from a breakdown. At least give him 2 weeks to cool down, damn.

My first playthrough of Ch 3, I got what I guess is the "neutral" ending where I didn't do all the secret bosses and also let Lisa die (look the boss fight was hard). So the one where Father Garcia forces John to get in the car and go demon hunting at gunpoint. "That wasn't a request. Get in the car, hijo." For some reason this particular ending REALLY got under my skin and bothered me for days...like I guess it's technically a "good" ending in that you defeat the cult but it's just SO bleak, like almost worse than the bad ones. Father Ward went through hell trying to do the right thing and all he's gonna get out of it is more of the same, with no escape and no rest. Absolutely depressing. When I got the true ending I picked Lisa, like, instantly.

Babe, 4 hour long faith video just dropped!! edit: I just finished the video, and I am, phew, wow, I am almost left with a heavy heart that the video is over. It was so fun. Amazing laughs I didn't expect, such cool visuals to pair with the story, and a perspective on this game I didn't have before. This was incredible. Like history in the making for your channel as well, this is, something else. Great great work, I respect your dedication and effort so much.
