1:13:20 So for the record, floppy diskettes WERE still in use by the time that Kaycee would have been working on GameFuna's Inscryption game. Because they're generally reliable and easily rewriteable, and because for a long time thumb drives were still kind of expensive even if they did hold more data at once, some workplaces would still use the much cheaper floppy diskettes as backups or as a quick way to run data back and forth between home and the office. and why not? It's not like every computer in the office didn't have a floppy drive anyway, considering that a lot of workplaces STILL won't upgrade hardware and software until it's 110% absolutely NECESSARY that they do so. Computer equipment and licenses for software are expensive, and if the old stuff still works and isn't causing problems, why replace it? Anyway, you're right about it all being a front-- Inscryption would never have released on a floppy if it was a legitimate game. It would have been on a DVD-ROM, since that was the popular physical release format of the time, or released on an online storefront like Steam. I just thought it was important to mention that Kaycee not questioning why she's developing a game on a floppy disk isn't *too* far-fetched, just a bit unlikely since a legitimate game studio would have been a bit more on the ball with tech.

2:18:00 I think actually if you look at the stunted wolf sprite you'll see the missing eye is the right eye, the same eye he opens in act 2 so he regains his eye and it even is implied by dialogue that the eye that he opens remembers being taken out. And later in act 3 we see he has both of his eyes.

I think what you said about girls creating this package-deal of violence and sex being inseparable is very insightful. I've always only noticed it with men before, and i think it stems from insecurity and low self-esteem. Women make men feel self-conscious. Some men are confident and have healthy self-esteem, and these men won't resent a woman for having standards and either accepting or rejecting their advances. Other men, though, simply pretend. They lie. These men are aware that they're lying, and these lies negatively affect their psychology. It's unhealthy and leads to resentment of the woman/women that they view as the cause for their own psychological pain. They unleash this anger during sex when they belittle the woman with words or even sometimes physically hurt the woman. This is a deep-seated psychological problem that becomes automatized and can destroy the act of sex for some men. Real love is love for another based on their virtues, not their weaknesses. Together, you make each other stronger. You don't just excuse each other's faults and relax in your mediocrity. The act of sex is a celebration of values, the values you see in your significant other. It's a beautiful thing and not something to be ashamed of, angry with, or feel pressured by.

Another interesting tidbit with the "x" imagery is that the terms xx and xy are used to describe sex chromosomes that determine whether someone is male or female. The girls weaponize the "x" to try and render each other irrelevant. The use of the "crossed out" phrase used by both Jennifer and Needy, imo, highlights how what they're doing, in its essence, is uniquely female. Perhaps it's meant to portray passive aggressiveness? At Melody Lane, the girls are given x's on their right hands. This could represent a multitude of things, including showing these two girls are potential targets, or that together they make up "xx," which could hint at the writer seeing herself in both girls. Diablo Cody, the writer of Jennifer's Body, has said herself that she has a split personality, and she's named that other personali, Diablo Cody. Diablo means devil, and Cody in the Bible means helpful person. Helpful Devil? A religious interpretation could be that the x's being on their right hands could represent the mark of the beast or antichrist. This interpretation works because the band Low Shoulder all have matching tattoos somewhere on their bodies of waxing moons, which is one of the symbols of the antichrist. This would effectively make the band false prophets. False prophets speak lies instead of truth, and their messages contradict what God instructs. They may appeal to earthly cravings or passions. The false prophets breathe life into an idol that's in the shape of the first beast (antichrist). Basically, the statement being expressed would be that the antichrist is a teenage girl. There are many readings that tie into one another, but I think all the religious commentary and imagery are meant to show how religion can be used by bad people to keep others dependent on them. I think the entire movie is about a teenage girl's journey to true independence.

In the sandbox scene where Needy and Jennifer become friends, I see parallels drawn between Needy and the whirlpool that feeds on trauma. Jennifer hurts her right hand, and Needy kisses the bloody wound and says, "I'd never tell on you." Needy has just proved what her worth is to Jennifer, a human receptacle for pain and trauma that will stay with Needy forever. She's like the Devil's Kettle whirlpool. Needy's there for Jennifer to try and heal her pain and clean up her messes to hide the truth. This has to take a mental toll on Needy. It's a very exploitative relationship.

Considering that the painter in story IV is notably older than Tessie, and he speaks of "young Castaigne," I thought it was foregone that he _is_ Jack Scott, and The Yellow Sign takes place several years _after_ both Repairer and Mask. I envision the culture of the world where the Yellow Mythos is real having developed differently, becoming stagnant and more decadent than our own. More attention paid to art and mysticism, but less to political and social issues (hence the ham-fisted approach to civil rights and to quality of life), with real scientific research losing steam while strange discoveries are made by amateurs using thinly-veiled alchemy, and if not shared, they can be lost, like Boris' liquid. In the real world, a discovery like Boris made would inevitably be rediscovered; only in a Yellow Mythos world, with technological (I can scarcely say scientific) progress being developed Hermetically, is it possible to discover something earth-shaking like that, not bother to test and research the shit out of it, and then lose it completely.

one thing I haven't seen mentioned in the video and took me a lot longer than needed to realize is that The Prince is also an obvious reference to Buddha. Having reached 'enlightenment', evoking the Buddha as a person became synonymous with referring to the 'buddha state', 'pure consciousness', 'unaltered perception' etc. in common language, e. g. "seeing the Buddha in someone" doesn't refer to saintliness per see but recognizing the level of awareness someone has this is probably already in the comments I just haven't checked

I’m kind of glad I never found out about Krampus until High school. I’d be absolutely horrified if I learned about him as a kid. I was a mostly well behaved as a kid but I was easily scared during my elementary and middle school years. Also I’m autistic so that might also have something to do with it.

The thing that is confusing about The Mask is that IT HAS A HAPPY ENDING. It's an eerie love story. But in the end, that's all it is. A spooky love story. But its the PLACEMENT IN THE BOOK that makes the story such a work of genius. What have we read so far? The FIRST story ends with the protagonist dying (although the young lovers survive.) The SECOND story ends with the protagonist living and getting to be with the love of his life. They live happily ever after! BUT WHAT HAPPENS IN THE NEXT STORY?!?! After The Mask, EVERY STORY keeps the reader in suspense... will the couple in The Yellow Sign live happily ever after? What about the Demoiselle D'Ys? There's not that must suspense when you know that EVERY STORY ends with everyone dead. But placing The Mask as story #2, we now have reason to go into EVERY STORY knowing that a happy ending IS possible. But will it happen? That's what makes The Mask such a work of genius.

Pandemonium was first used as the name of a fictional city of demons in (I believe) Paradise Lost. Pandemonium "means" chaos, but it is actually a name that we apply to things as if it was under the rule of demons. Pan- All Demon- duh ium- I think this means of? as in the demons are of this city? anyway can't wait to watch part three where you address this and i look like a jackass.

My first time playing this, I had really bad luck on my draws when I beat Leshy, and didn’t have a very good hand in a huge overall deck, but I found out you can get special dialogue if you remove the Moon’s ability to attack with the stinkbug. With all the insane cards you can create, just using a very slow but guaranteed way to neutralize the moon, Leshy reacts like “What? That’s so lame.” As if your method of beating his last phase is valid, but not nearly as badass or epic as he’d have hoped
