So would this be able to be used in place of “all purpose flour” in recipes? What about “bread flour”?
@faithandarrowhomestead
@faithandarrowhomestead Жыл бұрын
This is an excellent question. I might put together a video about this. Yes freshly milled flour can be used in place of all purpose flour. However, the weight is different. Store bought AP has been packed down in its packaging and is very dense. Freshly milled flour is light and fluffy. You need a kitchen scale to weigh your flour versus simply scooping out cups. I know that sounds annoying but this small adjustment is so worth the health benefits! Bread flour is called that because it is a type of flour better suited to making bread products. In the freshly milled world that is called “hard wheat”. There are tons of different types of wheat berries out there and they all bring different qualities to the table. Hard red and hard white will have the highest protein content and that makes these best suited for bread. Soft white is lower in protein and better for cookies, pastries, etc.

I just discovered this recently and I am on board. I’m trying to educate my friends and family. We eventually pay for “conveniences” one way or another. There is very little flour in shelf bread. It’s mostly stabilizers, preservatives and fillers. Those wreak havoc on the gut. That’s why people have gut problems. Be passionate! Be vocal! Good for you!!!

Love it! At the agave of 26, my daughters health deteriorated to the point of not being able to walk. One of the changes we made is milling our own flour. Game changer. I’m not saying that that alone healed her but it’s allowed her to eat bread products again. After almost 2years of diet and lifestyle changes, my girl is back to about 80%. Working, serving others, exercising, and living. Our processed food was literally killing her. The other benefit is taste! I cannot eat store bought bread anymore. No flavor at all. My family is spoiled rotten! Love your channel, keep it up. And prayers for you getting pregnant!!

I DID IT!!! Nutrimill has started their Black Friday sales already and the classic grain mill is $100 off right now at $179! (I got the classic because in comparison the Harvest is not capable of grinding corn it says- so no corn meal if that matters to anyone) the harvest grain mill I believe is $80 off right now. But the savings from buying the classic paid for most of my 2 buckets of wheat berries I bought too! I’m very excited to learn how to cook with this- and get those 20+ stolen nutrients BACK into my bread and flour!!

Germany will be shipping them out soon. Hopefully I’ll get mine by the end of this month. It was free shipping, no tax in January and I got 10% off. I thought I had a good deal and you got yours for $179! Good for you! I was told I had celiac by my doctor and never had any symptoms. I have an autoimmune disease and have been convinced for years that our food was contaminated. Feel great one day and bad the next. My first loaf wasn’t bad. You are right on. Everything you talked about is exactly the way it is. I freshly mill flour to make sourdough breads muffins, cookies etc. etc. now and I find that we no longer have sugar cravings. When your body cells are nourished with nutrient dense foods they feel satiated. I have lost 20 pounds and am at my perfect weight without even trying. I eat until I am satisfied and I have not put any weight back on. We need to make significant nutritional changes as we are killing ourselves with our foods - especially the commercial dead breads. It is very easy to start this process - just be willing to spend a bit of time learning the basics. You will not be disappointed. I will be sending this to many loved ones. Thank you.

Totally agree! We switched to fresh mill flour and noticed a great difference in our health! 20 years ago it was hard to find a mill, grains, now, abundance. The stores will be next to carry grains. For now, so many options for the northern states and different sources for the southern states, online. As a lifelong bread baker, took me 5 tries in a learning curve to figure out to use more moisture, less flour, and now great bread products! I remember ordering organic foods out of state 30 years ago, then slowly you saw the products in stores, and now, whole stores dedicated to Whole Foods. The food industry will follow demands. Thank you!

When I saw your thumbnail that said "I get upset about this" I clicked SO fast haha! I am also upset about how modern flour is processed, especially after I just learned that most flour in the U.S. is bleached with benzoyl peroxide and goes through another chemical process called bromation...something that has been banned in other countries. My family farms wheat and I knew that it couldn't be the wheat itself that is the enemy because it has many nutrients.

Your passion and enthusiasm for doing the right things is inspiring! I just finished grinding some rye berries by hand while watching your video. Hand grinding doesn't generate as much heat. I read somewhere that electric grinders affect the flour quality. Hopefully, that's not the case, because I don't want you to have to roll up more coins just to get a new hand grinder. Look it up, though. It is a great arm exercise, too.

Since you have a KithenAid mixer, they do make an attachment for milling that is less expensive than the grain mill. I recently bought one for my mixer so I could start milling my own wheat berries. It's amazing how delish breads taste!

I have a similar setup as you, ice blue kitchenaid i've had for 8 years and still going strong, and I got a mockmill 2 years ago and let me tell you, my kids rave about my bread. I mess up a lot but my kids still love it haha. Oh and it was Sue Beckers Bread of Life video that did it for me. I was so on board as well as a bunch of my girlfriends / homeschool moms, there were 4-5 of us that ended up buying our own mills that winter :D

I would love to mill my own flour, since coming to American I have got fat with so many ailments I never had before. I suffer from severe acid reflux and stomach swelling. I Can most of our food and do my own baking but unfortunately a mill is way out of my price mill, I’m a senior and I just can’t do it. But I am so pleased for you and hope you can continue your journey.

Whenever I kept hearing about how bad wheat products are for us and how we should cut out carbs my first thought was, “Wait, the Bible is full of references of how bread is the staff of live. They almost lived on bread then.” That’s when I started seeing and learning why. God is faithful to teach us as we are willing to listen.

I just watched Sue's videos a day or two ago and my wife and I immediately bought a mill. I'm a true Celiac, yes, biopsies, blood tests, genetic tests... all came back positive. My biggest question is... are the health benefits from home milling going to be as pronounced if I use grains other than wheat to bake my bread products???? Love your video! Hopefully by now you have the baby you've been trying for!! keep up the good work!! Can't wait to watch more!!! Rob

I’m sorry about your diagnosis. I’m not well versed on flour alternatives but whatever you use, the fresher the better I think will be standard from a nutritional standpoint. Once milled, I imagine the degradation begins and works faster versus its non-milled state. Always mill what’s needed and no more.
@YaThinKnow

The discovery of malnutrition was by Army doctors observation of the new recruits for WWII, they saw 30% were. Yet when questioned the recruits seemed to consume sufficient quantities of food. Hence the law requiring refortification requirements for all grains was established. Sourdough is even better for your body. I got the mill attachment for the mixer you have. Works great! During the pandemic mills were impossible to get. I got a coffee mill and only ground wheat thru it, worked great too.

I just got a $100 hand crank grain mill. This Saturday I will be grinding for the first time and making Irish soda bread. I'm really interested to see how my body will respond. Some time ago I realized I simply could not eat anything made with whole grain, even if I made it myself (with store-bought whole-wheat flour) because it gives me very smelly gas which is very embarrassing because it just doesn't wait when it wants out. I have not been wheat free, as I don't seem to have a serious problem with reasonable amounts of white flour, but as we know, there's not much nutrition in white flour, even if it's organic. If anyone has more wheat issues and still has symptoms from fresh flour, consider not giving up, but taking a break from grains and eat a rich meat and bone broth diet for few weeks to let your gut heal before trying again. Everyone is different and there is lots of information about how to heal if you look for it.

Thank you for subscribing! I never store freshly milled flour. I always mill right as I need it but I do have a friend who mills it ahead of time and keeps it in the freezer. That does help extend the shelf life but still, the nutrients decrease rather quickly after milling.

Thank you girl! Hope you’re already pregnant by now, and wish you good health for life! Thanks bcoz I’m on the road to taking back the responsibility of my family’s health and my own too, after decades of believing the lies and propaganda of commercial ads on tv and the general fake advice given by doctors who didn’t ever learn much of food as health in their programs 😄 but mostly know how to prescribe drugs for every symptom. 😏 finally at my post menopausal age when everything seems to be crashing health wise for me, I’ve finally started to think of making some financially hard choices to invest in my own health and my family’s too. So was wondering if I could even spend this much for a mill. But thanks to you, I’m going to go ahead with the initial hardship money wise, to reap good health for us. God bless 🙏🏼
