Thanks, man. I had a bag of these guys for years and only just now was able to tell they are fakes. Like you said, beautiful coins anyway.

I know of a silver one dollar example that is in a collection that belongs to a close friend. It also has the reed mentioned in this video. They have had a hard time finding a way to verify if it’s real or not. It was discovered hidden in a jewelry box purchased from goodwill. The box had a false bottom that held all sorts of foreign coins from the turn of the century ad well as a few post cards. Considering it’s origin I believe it’s worth investigating anyway!!!

Sounds like a really interesting coin! Hopefully it is something cool -- things like that are typically real so fingers crossed. :) Feel free to send a picture to my email if you want any extra help. I should really set up an instagram so its easier to contact over things like this...

I found a Chinese coin with 1862 to 1874 on the back of it. It doesn't have the dots to represent replica coin. Would you know if they made coins with numeric numbers on it.
@DefensiveIdiot3 жыл бұрын
I don't think that is an actual coin, I believe that is a token. en.numista.com/catalogue/exonumia36741.html

I just aquired the 5 yaun coin. I found one site where the members stated they had replicas which where 26 gm. They very much wanted to hold on to them. I think there is something to the fact that one cannot find the 5 yaun with the weigh, diameter and non magnetic features of my coin. Please let me know if you find more information on thia coin.

The 2nd coin is called 袁大頭in Chinese (Big Yuan head). The person on the observe is the Chinese President (then Self made emperor) Yuan Shikai of the Republic of China. This coin is only minted with the face value of 1 Yuan and nothing else.

I haven't ever heard of one personally, maybe it is from a private mint? Typical silver bullion coins are 1oz or above.

Terrific video! This helps for when I buy this type of coins. Hope you can do about other coins like Manchukuo ones PS: I have a doubt. What type of magnet should I use? Does any magnet work?
@DefensiveIdiot3 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate, I'll see what I can do about Manchukuo ones as it isn't actually that normal for me to see real or fakes from that period, but I'll be sure to try. I'm planning to do one for Chinese Empire coins. (Chinese Empire as in the "Dynasty" periods) Subcribe to get notified for that one of you want mate. As for the magnet, almost all magnets work. Just dont use an overly weak one like a fridge magnet.

@@DefensiveIdiot So stainless steal works? Or better if it is like neodymium? By the way, something you can mention. This type of fake coins made by Chinese counterfeit is also popular with Mexican silver coins of the Porfirio Diaz regime (same type of mistakes and they use the same metal mixes). This is because the silver peso was a very popular currency (so much so the US dollar sign is the peso sign) and many came and were left in China cause trade so the counterfeit people used too since they had many near them, just like Indochinese ones or US silver ones
@DefensiveIdiot3 жыл бұрын
Most silver coins like this are counterfeitted sadly, I'll be sure to mention it in the next fake coin video I do. I guess the heads up about the mexican ones is also useful for a lot of my viewers since quite a few are from the US. Issue is that most people just buy them from unconventional locations (ie street stalls) and don't check the authenticity. I'll probably make a guide or something when I get the time. Thanks mate.
@DefensiveIdiot3 жыл бұрын
Forgot to say btw, both stainless steel and neodymium should work. Make sure not to scratch the coin though!

Based as fuck video, man. One that needed made. Also, if you want to get one, I'd get one that's graded. That way, you can tell pretty quickly if it's real or fake.

Thanks mate, I guess it did need making eventually :). I'd love to get one but issue is I'm a student so buying a graded coin is a bit out of my price range especially a silver one.

There is so much more that was not presented to verify a coin. Diameter, thickness, weight, all must be close to exact. Ping test, magnetic slide test also. And for a true silver coin passing all the tests, rigid visual inspection under magnification is necessary. Pass all and you have reasonable assumption it is not a fake.
