Mythicals and legendaries aren’t that different lore wise. It’s just how you obtain them that makes them different. You usually don’t earn a mythical via a typical play though since you gotta get them via an event. It’s why darkrai is a mythical and thus banned from play when Cresselia is not when they’re in the same duo lore wise

Fun fact no mythicals are available in game, they actually demoted deyoxis. Since mythical is a fan term by putting it in basegame ORAS it no longer qualifies as mythical.

I'd give Rotom a leg up on being the worse offender here over Volcarona. Rotom had the whole not being obtainable until the post-game in it's debut game, but also had the universal legendary battle theme to accompany it and had a tiny bit more work than just running into it through thumping the TV.

Im 95% sure that they arent ultra beasts, just related to them. Also, solgaleo and lunara shouldnt even be legendaries if we consider the fact that the ultra recon squad possibly have multiple copies of those two since they are the only ones apart from necrozma that can open ultra wormholes. In the manga necrozma is considered a ultra beast tho and requires a beast ball to be captured, the manga is wild.

As for their classification as Legendaries, the whole “one of a kind” thing only applies concretely to a small handful like the Tao & Life Trios (Zygarde can be split into multiple bodies but it’s all a hive mind of sorts)

They had a differenciation between ubs and cosmog evos that just lost itself during translation, in japanese they used two different words for ultra beasts(ビースト) and for cosmog evos(獣) that when translated means the same thing(beast). The thing about "one of a kind" is fair, tho that makes it really hard to understand what exactly make a pokemon "legendary".

As for why legendaries have their classification, while there are instances like the Kantonian & Galarian Birds, Heatran, and Kubfu/Urshifu that are classed for their extreme rarity, all of the others have some kind of history or mythos tied to them.

I always thought Rotom was a legendary back in gen 4 and 5. You have to find him in the tv in Sinnoh and the legendary fight theme plays. He quickly went from a cool "legendary" with nice typing, to a common phone 💀

Mythicals are Pokemon that you cannot normally catch through regular game play. You usually only get them through an event, mystery gift etc.

so the difference between legendaries and mythicals, is that in EVERY gen, that gens mythical does not exist in base game. mew is only found through an event, or through coding glitches, celebi was another event using the gs ball, emerald had the deoxyz and jirachi events, d/p/pt had azure flute for arcues, oaks letter for shaymin, and motel key for darkrai, gen 5 had liberty ticket for victini, gen 6 had events for diancie, hoopa and genesect, gen 7 had events for zeraora, and marshadow, gen 8 was zarude, and finally gen 9 is a dlc download for pecharunt. legendaries can all be found in base game with no events, add ons or dlcs

Dlc legendaries are still legendary, not mythicals. Ogerpon, Terapagos, Glastrier, Spectrier, Calyrex, Regidrago, & Regieleki are all legendaries despite being locked behind dlcs

Pecharunt is a mystery gift and while it has no current expiration date, eventually, it will no longer be available, even if you have the dlcs. See what i mean?

Rotom is the biggest bastard in all of Pokémon. He gets SO much love for doing all of this stuff… but Spiritomb gets left out in the rain. Rotom gets this big fancy chateau with fellow ghosts to hang out with, plenty of TVs and appliances to have fun with, etc. Spiritomb sits outside in a well for thousands of years until some random kid decides to plug a rock into the hole. Unless you’re me and you never got Spiritomb because the Diamond/Pearl guidebook didn’t expect GF to change where the Keystone would be in Platinum.

Legendaries usually come in sets (except for Mewtwo, who is an artificial one) and are usually part of the main story or post champion story of a game. At least until the later generations where Meloetta is given out just for spinning in a certain spot and nearly all the legendaries can be found in each game.

Legendary have high base stats and are catchable in game. Mythicals you can only get via an event. Arcanine in gen 1 was considered legendary in all the lore that surrounded it but was demoted.

Legendary - a pokemon, you can only get one of per save file, but it is part of the story that you get one. Mythical - a Legendary, you can only get through special events once per save file. Not a part of the story. Ultra beast - a pokemon that can only be found going through an ultra wormhole. Paradox pokemon - a pokemon that has traveled through time either from the past or future. I see it as this: Legendary Pokémon can manipulate the environment around them. Mythical Pokémon can manipulate the minds and fates of humans as easily as it could a Pokémon. The difference in this would explain Koraidon/Miraidon and Pecharunt. The box legendaries are powerful enough to manipulate their environment (Koraidon has the blazing sunlight, Miraidon has the quark drive & electric terrain.) Pecharunt manipulates the minds of trainers with the mochi it produces.

It's dex classification is the legendary pokemon, but it is not A legendary pokemon. The games have an internal classification for legendary pokemon and Arcanine has never fallen under that classification. Usually (not always) you can only get 1 of a legendary pokemon per game, usually those pokemon are restricted from certain battle facilities. Outside of Manaphy, no legendary pokemon has ever been able to breed. Arcanine is a regular pokemon. Nothing more.
