For me, I love Nintendo and all but wasn't really in the know or remembered much about NWC. So when the AVGN episode dropped, I actually thought it was hilarious you guys smashed the fake ones up as I didn't realize the price and rarity of the real carts. To this day, a fantastic episode and collaboration. Hoping to see you both do another collaboration as the LJN one was also great 👍🏻

Hey guys the reason anime seasons are spread so far apart or never get done in Japan despite popularity is that anime is used to drive manga sales in Japan. It's rare for an anime to get continuous seasons and if it does it runs into issues where the anime catches up to the manga and you usually get substandard "FILLER" episodes as a result. So they usually either just do a season or two to push manga sales or they wait for a manga or light novel to do enough chapters or volumes to produce a new season. Which can take years.

The thing with some animes taking long breaks between seasons, is that most animes are adaptations on existing manga or light novels. Most animes will cover like 3-4 chapters of the manga in a single episode. So if there is a long gap between seasons, its usually because the animators are literally just waiting for more manga chapters to be released. To get around only waiting, some anime will go into long stretches of filler content, like with Naruto or BLEACH, and then come back into the main story once the manga has a sufficient lead again. While some will just divert from the manga entirely, and make an entirely different ending, like with Full Metal Alchemist (which eventually came back as a new series subtitled Brotherhood and it more closely followed the events of the manga).

On vinyl records, I just discovered discogs myself because I did want to know more about certain records and what pressing and such....and indeed, it takes some time for some records to try to determine the exact pressing, you need to check to scribblings in the inner layer, just outiside of the label...need to hold it in the light and really sometimes takes a clockworkers' eye to see whats going on there....

One Punch Man seasons are so far apart because they have to wait for the manga to be written. Season 1 covered the first *seven* volumes of the manga; the Boros manga arc had just ended. Older anime would create potentially years of made-for-TV filler content when they caught up to the source material, or would sometimes create their own versions of an in-progress arc. Newer anime seems much more willing to simply wait until enough new source material is created before continuing.

God I'm so glad the days of endless filler while waiting for the manga to get written are mostly behind us. One Piece is about the only one left to do it and it's mostly because it's grandfathered in on that format.

Yeah Chobits is terrible in regards to filler episodes, and they ended up changing the ending anyway. I still like the show, but by the time I got to the spring cleaning episode, (which is nothing but exactly what you think it is) I was starting to wonder if there was an abridged version of the show.

One Punch-Man (and other anime) didn't get new seasons every year because it follows the manga. The latest arc just finished a while ago, so there will be a new anime season of OPM the next year, almost for sure. Love the podcast :)

Despite how well you guys matched them, I was pretty sure the smashed carts were fake, I still gasped though when I saw that hammer in James hand, 😆, great avgn episode. Also nice Motorola Razr phone, my favorite of all the flip phones I owned. When I heard chili cheese the weiner schnitzel sounded a lot more appetizing.

@@CaptainGanymede I used to play that game a lot on the PS3... a lot! :p Every once in a blue moon I'll fire it up to see if anyone is still on, but rarely anyone is on. Now there's a handful that will organize an annual tournament. Can't remember, but I think it's sometime over the summer.

For collecting apps I use GameEye, has had almost all the games I've tried to put into it, there's pictures, descriptions, can enter games in by scanning the barcode which is really nice, and it's on your phone when you're out looking at games you can reference it, definately recommend it!

One Punch Man is taking forever because the manga is just wrapping up the arc that season 2 started. Also, the author likes to go back and revise as he works.

There are two main reasons for delays for new seasons of anime: 1) The anime has caught up to the manga. Historically there have been several ways to deal with this. In the old days the anime has simply ignored the manga at that point and done its own thing, going sometimes into a completely different reaction. Overly long and popular shows that are well funded usually don' do seasons, but rely on filler episodes or filler arcs to give the manga some time to advance. Naruto is a good example for this as they added tons of filler episodes during the time skip. Other anime like DBZ or One Piece rely on extending fights, that can often last ten episodes or more while the manga breezes through it in a few chapters. 2) Finding sponsors to pay the production costs. Basically, anime studios rely on sponsors to pay for the production costs. This is usually easy for hugely popular franchises, but a lot less for minor titles.

I started with Retro Collector and that's my main checklist, but their prices seem to be out of date consistently, but I like that CLZ keeps up to date on prices/notes/etc. so I've started transitioning to CLZ. I used to use an Excel sheet but that got annoying after a while with the multiple tabs and stuff. Tracking doubles, variants, etc. are rough if you care about that.

There was huge backlash at the animation quality of One Punch Man Season 2 because they changed studios so maybe that has something to do with the reluctance of putting out another.

Ian is 100% spot on with Jack tacos. I don't know what the hell they really are (we call em mystery tacos) but they just hit the spot sometimes. I'd say their Jalapeño poppers are pretty decent as well if you're looking for a quick fix. Always preferred the cheddar to cream cheese and Jack's are pretty good.

Collector app I use is Gameye which is constantly being worked on, but if you aren't in NA (like me) you will likely need to add all of your games yourself to the database if you care about having an "accurate" entry. But the Devs seem friendly and responsive. Only issue I think is that it doesn't work on desktop yet but I don't think that's far off.

Anime lives and dies on merchandise sales. Usually BD/DVD sets. For a show to get a second season, it has to sell enough to cover the expenses of producing the new season. That's why it can take years before it happens and why some really popular shows never got a continuation despite receiving terrific ratings and universal praise, e.g. Dragon Ball Super and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (part 6 was only greenlit because Netflix financed it, otherwise it would have never happened due to part 5's mediocre sales)

One Punch Man is taking so long because it's adapted from a manga and there simply isn't enough material for a season 3. Or if there is enough material, they'd get way too close to catching up to the manga and the wait for season 4 would be even longer than the wait between 2 and 3. This is the case for a lot of anime (Attack on titan had a famously long break between seasons 1 and 2). Anime original series are a different subject entirely.

Well, at least you Pat got something Gaming related worth TONS of money (official NWC gold and gray carts) due to it being so dare, while the most elusive and expensive item I got in my Gaming collection is the DK64 controller for the Nintendo 64 (one of the three elusive Nintendo Power exclusive N64 controllers, which only 5000 of them per controller exist in the entire world).

Pat to answer your question about why it's taking so long to to release new seasons of anime. I think largely overall they've completely changed their approach. For a long time anime and manga would run congruent with the anime being Maybe a few chapters behind the manga at any given moment. The problem with this method is that often times with the anime production being multiple large teams as opposed to the Manga usually being like, an author, an inker, and an editor. This made it very common for the anime to outpace the manga it's based on, so they would have to find a way to produce Filler episodes while waiting for the manga to produce enough content to adapt for the Anime. A lot of times it's not that bad, but then certain anime like Naruto Shippuden is more filler than actual content. And on top of that their filler is notoriously awful. Made worse by the fact that anime and manga Productions don't take seasonal breaks and will just continue to run non-stop until it's conclusion. At least that's how it used to be. Point being is, the past few years has really seen a major change In anime production. Now they tend to wait for the manga to wrap up an arc or reach a definitive story point before the anime adapts the material. I think my hero Academia is a pretty good example of that. You get a new season season every year, and it's pretty much a direct adaptation of the manga arc from the previous year. At least I'm pretty sure that's how things are going these days, hope that helps answer your question.

For the whole One-Punch Man scenario, it generally has to do with popularity on the series green-lit an anime immediately without looking at the long-term consequences. . One-Punch Man manga has an irregular schedule that's based on the already irregular schedule of the webcomic. . So, we get an irregular scheduled anime based on a manga that releases whenever a chapter is out (could have as low as 9 pages to about 40+ pages depending on the manga artist), with THAT is based on a webcomic that has no coherent schedule done by one guy. . Because of this, the anime is going to take longer because it's at the mercy of 2 artist (unlike Attack on Titan where the animation studio was at the mercy of a monthly-scheduled series). . Also, the less you know about the animation treatment in Japan the better, but let's just say crunch plus multiple titles to work on is a motherfucker. . .

Now anime production is a lot more focused on quality, especially with CGI use. Gone are the days of anime being produced weekly ike DBZ used to. For example, SpyXFamily aired a 12 episode half-season in April and in October began airing another batch of 13 episodes. Chainsaw Man is airing a 13-episode half season since October, and then they'll take a sabbatical until an non-specified date next year.

As for the discogs “who effing cares” thing… I gotta say correctly identifying a vinyl release is MUCH more critical than it is for a game… with a video game, there may be some packaging variations, worst case scenario there are some ROM revisions. But for the most part, every copy is going to play the same way. When it comes to records… the differences in production carry much greater significance. And it’s even worse when you buy something but and the seller carelessly listed any old copy for sale under a very specific release variation. I still empathize with Ian. The identification and categorization is just way too time consuming. For someone who’s been collecting for years before Discogs even existed, it’s just too daunting. I have thousands of records but I don’t have a single thing entered into my “collection.” I should, but who has the time? Not me!

About the AVGN NWC episode at first I though they were real but then I quickly realized that either James or Pat wouldn't have been that stupid to use actual NWC cartridges for that considering the value of those things. Also I knew that James owned a Repro cart version of NWC until he got his very own copy of NWC If I am not mistaken. Yeah Jaws on NES isn't that bad of a game there are far worse games than that on NES.

Jack in the Cra - errr, Box - was so much better a decade or so ago. The old foil wrappers they used back then were far better at keeping the burgers warm. And I'll never understand why they got rid of their onion mayo sauce, and just replaced it with boring ol' mayo. "Simplifying our menu!" Right. It wasn't like you offered both onion mayo and plain mayo back then. No .They're not the worst but not the best either. Not even close. Nor as good as they used to be. The best thing on their menu is probably those cheap tacos.
