Pat isn't some nobody that came in to make a quick buck. He probably just wanted to get his stuff out there in case a serious collector wants to give him a fair price for those two.

Currently there's an eBay listing for a 1990 NINTENDO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS GOLD CARTRIDGE for $1,000,000 or best offer. Not sure if it's the same seller.

The gold cart can vary in price dramatically, one sold for over 100k I think about 5 years ago. I think this was a gold opportunity to make Bank and it was missed especially considering these were the real deal, a lot of counterfeits exist unfortunately.
